BTW, add a simple filter before your exhaust fan or the resins from cutting/engraving timber will stick to the fan blades and send them out of balance. You can make an easy filter with a few layers of garden fleece in a box - make sure you have access to replace or wash the fleece 😂
Your very correct there. I have made that upgrade after a recommendation, we ended up using an aluminium fly screen mesh. Works week 👍

What is the name of red material used to block laser light
I am not 100% sure what it's called. I went to my local perspex company and asked for laser protection plastic.
Thanks for the great video! I'm curious: do you think a fan in place of the vent, to help draw air into the enclosure, would be a benefit to helping ensure no fumes sneak out?
I haven't found much of an issue, but I also have quite a large fan being used. Possibly a good option if you were using a smaller fan.

I do not have a laser. But i am in the market for one. Annd as a maker the commercially available enclosures seem expencive for what they are. And i enjoy making things myself to fit my space

I am about to take delivery of a 10w creality laser cutter/engraver add on for my Ender 3v2. I have just finnished making an enclosure, and am about to finish it by adding an extractor fan I bought off ebay. I am just wondering where best to fit the extractor and decided youtube would throw some light on the subject, hence here I am. I have made my enclosure out of a wooden fram with MDF sides, and I will be making a clear perspect front/door for it later today.

That’s awesome, and also a bit reassuring to hear. I received my laser two weeks ago and have been trying to get good ventilation since then. Purchased an enclosure from Amazon and a 4” inline fan but It still smells alot. But after seeing your design it’s clear that the one I got has a bunch of flaws!
I think the key is cross ventilation. You need to make sure there is enough fresh air coming in as your extracting out. Hope that makes sense!

Why did you use perspexx and mot acrylic do they provide the same protection?
I used what was recommended to me by the plastics factory for this scenario. I am not 100% sure if it provides the same protection or not, but that's what they suggested. Might be worth doing your own research for some peace of mind 👍
Perspex is a brand name for acrylic. They are the same thing.
Question will these plans work on a 720x720m laser?
Hi James, it's not based on a 720*720, but they could be easily modified to suit. We have had a subscriber make it to suit an 850*850 with no issues. Cheers!

May sound like a stupid question, but why does one need an input vent? won't that let smoke out once the fan is unplugged?
Not a stupid question at all! The exhaust fan can on extract the same amount of air as it pulls in. If you have no air coming in, you have no air going out. Hope that helps!
Whats the thickness of the material you used for the whole box? 1/2 inch?
I used 3/4, but that's only because it's what I had on hand. You could get away with 1/2.

Hi how are you!! I'm considering buying a diode laser cutting machine. However, I realized that caution is needed when dealing with MDF. Furthermore, I am wondering whether this precaution should be extended to other materials, especially since, regarding MDF, which is not widely discussed in Brazil, I had to seek information abroad.
Although it is a topic that is rarely covered, I was concerned to discover that there is evidence that MDF may be linked to cancer, due to the gases that are produced during the laser cutting process. Unfortunately, I was unable to find information about the gases emitted when burning other materials, such as cardboard. Would you have any knowledge or information about this?
Furthermore, I would like to know if there is some kind of exhaust cabin for this equipment, which is capable of filtering and cleaning these gases before they are released into the environment.
Look at the answer I already had about this (if you're scared, just don't do it because everything in life causes some kind of harm to your health).

ola tudo bem !!estou considerando comprar uma máquina de corte a laser de diodo. No entanto, percebi que é necessário ter cautela ao lidar com o MDF. Além disso, estou pensando se essa precaução deve ser estendida a outros materiais, especialmente porque, sobre o MDF, que não é amplamente discutido no Brasil, precisei buscar informações no exterior.
Embora seja um tema pouco abordado, fiquei preocupado ao descobrir que há indícios de que o MDF pode estar relacionado ao câncer, devido aos gases que são produzidos durante o processo de corte a laser. Infelizmente, não consegui encontrar informações sobre os gases emitidos durante a queima de outros materiais, como exemplo também o papelão. Você teria algum conhecimento ou informação sobre isso?
Além disso, gostaria de saber se existe alguma espécie de cabine de exaustão para este equipamento, que seja capaz de filtrar e limpar esses gases antes de serem liberados no ambiente.
olha a resposta ja tive sobre isso (que se você esta com medo é so não fazer porque tudo na vida faz algum tipo de mal para a saúde).

My thoughts are that any fumes/sawdust is bad for you, so I use precautions regardless of the material, such as ventilation or a mask. I think it's important to mitigate the risk, no matter how small. We all want to be doing this for as long as we can!
Where can you find the eye protection sheet?
We were fortunate to be able to pick it up at a local Plastics supplier.

Only problem with your enclosure is you cannot raise the laser when you want to use a rotary.
I hadn't even considered that. I'll keep that in mind for version 2!
OK good basic design except for one thing, you really want your extraction for the smoke and fumes at the bottom rather than the top, you are trying to suck the stuff away from the work and from the laser lens this is one reason why most laser beds such as honeycomb beds allow the fumes to be extracted from below .
That's a fantastic point I never thought of. I'll keep that in mind for when I build version 2.0!
