The fact that Aiyuk wants to leave because they're not offering to pay him enough disqualifies him from being a Chief. I'm sure the 49'ers offered him a fair deal and he just Tyreeked out of there. As for Butker, pay him. Even making him the highest paid kicker is pocket change compared to the other position groups. EDIT: Those two statements might seem contradictory, but the Chiefs have shown that they're not willing to pay top dollar in the WR market, but they are willing to pay players in other positions if they are the best.

Butker and Creed will both make top-marker deals because those markets are relatively affordable. Smith unfortunately is gone: if a Broncos Guard who I never heard of before today could make $20 mil a year there's no chance Smith doesn't ask for less than $25 mil when he's a unanimous Top 5 in the NFL at his position with no competition in FA.

The Chiefs paid a premium, up front, but they never made a long-term commitment to Brown. I'm trying to remember if they picked up his contract for a year and then tagged him twice, or what the exact deal was. But yeah. KC would have to give up a lot of players to pay Aiyuk $30 million, if not right away, then in a year or two. I think they want to keep their window open as long as possible, and $30 million deals for WRs slams that window shut in 2 or 3 years.
Nikko Remigio is who I’m going to be watching through out training camp and preseason. I think he has a real shot at beating out Toney for the last WR spot.
He's a bit of a long shot. It's hard to come back from a knee and fully trust it a year later. I think we're coming up on the anniversary. But yeah, he was a consistent play-maker in camp, last year, before he got hurt. It's going to be tough to replicate that this soon. As a bubble player, he really needs to distinguish himself, and not just show that he's going to be OK. Toney's kind of a tough nut to crack. I wouldn't put it past Reid to stash him in the dog house / injured all year, just to spring him on somebody in a playoff game. It's just hard to say how deep that thinking goes, but Reid and Spags always seem to have something new to throw at opponents, deep into the playoffs. I could just as easily think/say that Toney's on their last nerve, and if he isn't lights-out in camp, they're gonna pull the plug. As for Moore, he seems like he's made for a Wes Welker role, but it just never materializes. It's like KC wants him to be a speed receiver, when he's more quick than fast. Decent speed, but not scary speed, plus he's not big and he doesn't play big.

Old guy here. I agree with the take on punters and kickers. Since the Chiefs have the fewest punts per season, it makes no sense to pay that position gobs of cash. Heck if I was the Chiefs, I wouldn’t keep a punter on the roster. Go for it on most 4th downs, and keep a ultiity player to kick 35 yard punts just in case. Field goal kickers are a whole NOTHEr story! Making a FG to win the game is top priority, so you better have someone like Balls of Steel ButKicker! Since it’s a free country, I don’t give a hoot in hell what his politics are. Just make those FGs!
Another old guy, here. After the kicker who shall not be named, I've always leaned towards adding one more hat to regular offense or defense with that specialist spot. KC and Oakland kind of sold the rest of the league on kicking specialists, so it's not only how they all do it, nowadays, it's a Chiefs tradition as well. I've often reflected on this. Wouldn't it be better to punch in more TDs and work the ball inside the 20 more consistently, than worry about kicking 50-yard field goals? Not sure who's going to emerge from your ensemble WR cast? Carry an extra WR or two! Carry a 4th or 5th RB, so you can attack in all different kinds of ways. Include a RB/WR 'tweener. Or on the D side. Carry an extra corner. Just basically keep those last two guys you really didn't want to cut from offense or defense. Make the kicking game an open contest amongst your 53. Tie a relatively low, but still consequential $3 or $4 million (or whatever) to winning the kicking duties. Maybe just put a bounty on made kicks, and let the whole team contend for the bounty. I dunno how you'd do it. The more I think about it, considering how much they have to coach up in the amount of contact hours they're allowed, maybe the specialist removes a lot of unnecessary garbage. Can you imagine sitting through the try-outs? And as soon as somebody got a hip flexor or otherwise hurt themselves trying to win a kicking contest, you'd start questioning the whole idea.
The punter deserves a lot of credit for holding all of those field goals and extra points...you really do need a dedicated position for the practice and consistency aspects.
