- Evelyn Glennie, one of the greatest marimbaist, plays Ney Rosauro's Marimba Concerto. Her interpretation is so unique and outstanding: super fast tempo, accurate, and energetic. It's really hard to believe she is deaf because her music matches with the band so perfectly. She has made this concerto one of the most popular marimba concerto performed globally.
...............not just a fantastic performance by Evelyn Glennie but an extremely well-conducted orchestra and a great composition by Ney Rosauro.................
Incredible performance! Thank you for sharing!
She makes my heart happy.
Evelyn is dancing, listening, watching, feeling deepestly, when she is playing the marimba in the concertos, and all in the same time. She knows about space , time, silence and freedom in music. Magnifique!!! What a spirit and vibrance in this piece!
So as well the cells in my body are dancing, feeling, listening..... deepestly when I hear Evelyn.... Thank you sooooo much, Evelyn, and Thanks to the orchestra.
A Marimba concerto is already rare, and with a deaf performer makes it more rare. Outstanding! regardless of the special condition, it's just perfect.
really awesome
she plays it like it's nothing!
I'm a huge fan of Evelyn Glennie and of this piece. I'm so excited that I'm going to begin preparing this piece for a competition soon. I only hope I can perform this half as well as she did.
Ik its been 10 years but how did the competition go?
Evelyn is so inspiring. I met her once a few years ago in Spokane and I'll never forget it. Cracked bar at 5:05?? Reminds me of her site icons.
Yes she can hear. A friend of mine is a somewhat bitter rival of hers and I prank called her back in 2001. She can hear well enough. After six years of marching band, rock bands, drum corps, and 7 years in the Marines I have documented "significant hearing loss" and I still hear more than most people. Oh, and the grip is "crossed grip" a mix of Burton and musser. The sticks are crossed the opposite way and long mallets are used to choke up.
just outstanding love it !
The name is Nei Rosario Wallice. It Means 'i have no prayer to meat this
Irish great ' I was drunk and in pain when the scores were conseaved. And yes music heals. Hope you got your cure and healed many, with the other scores.
Sad. I can't proov it, sit my hand writing comparison can.
We love you, Evelyn!!!
Amazing !!!! 1000 stars
Unfreakin believable!!!!!!!
She blows your socks off doesn't she? (And that's coming from someone who hates most music after Beethoven)!) I often hear her on the radio (have just been listening to her playing one of her own compositions, a solo--much more to my taste than orchestral music) and knew she was top in her field but I'm quite astonished at how young she looks. Other people here have already said anything else I might add. Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed it very much.
That was a really nice interpretation. I really like to hear different versions of the same thing, and I like them even more when that difference grows from my own interpretation... That's a really nice way to play Rosauro. ;:::b ;:::b two thumbs up!
Восхитительная
WOW!
@yellind1 I'm playing the first movement right now, and i use stephens, from what ive seen the only advantage over traditional or burton (which i use a bit) is that when you have 2 mallet runs you have a lot more control of individual mallets in regards to 2 mallet runs, but in terms of 4 mallet playing as a whole, stephens, for me, has proved to have more versatility because it allows for better independent movement of all four mallets.
I wish bands and orchestras included marimba more often. ;-;
Marimba even used in a blending way and not as a soloist would be amazing
Well this beat is something special about is(3mv.) that sounded like rock or metal, the rhythm, when we start the music at 37sec. you'll notice that, you can hear that streaming on going and it's perfect as damm^~^ I hope y'all enjoy this demo on RUclips and bye bye!~
I like the ending moment.
@18nationarmy Thanks! And same here. I'm playing the Farewell in a concerto competition in 2 weeks, and I really don't see myself getting the tempo any higher than where it is right now (160) UGH!!!!!!!!
So nice performance
So nice
The key to getting it to 190+ is a hard, light mallet in the left hand. I'm fond of ls15's in the left and ls20's in the right. Just make sure not to overplay with the 20s since they're VERY hard.
Am I supposed to know what those numbers mean 3 years into percussion?
i love her eyes at 2:22 :)
@ZubinHathiPercussion i'm working on the Farewell as a senior solo as well...i'm currently using a fundamental series innovative percussion hard marimba mallet (purple yarn), and they are light and have a bite, so i might just use those. if you are willing to shell out some money, i've heard that the marimba one colin currie ccb3 mallet works well too
As she lost her hearing, but she plays very good 😊
Superlative
she's beautiful....*_*
Parts of this remind me of the "Johnny Quest" theme. :-)
I'm about to start learning this concerto (obviously I won't play it as well as that!) - does anyone know which mallets she is using here?
@MrKendrum Don't. She experiences music through her whole body and feels a deep connection to it beyond just listening. I cry knowing most of us will never know what she knows about music.
evyy just love u sweet heart
I play michi on marimba but I think her playing surpassed anyone including Keiko Abe san
@infinity182yahoo i have a veryyyy hard time believing you. and also her grip is called traditional grip...
does this video start right where the last ended?
so... she is taking the fourth movement at quarter note = 200, im crying alittle bit inside right now, im currently at quarter note= 174 and the tempo Ney Rosauro put is quarter note= 192. Damm I've still have my work cut out. I don't know if grip is a factor with speed, I'm currently using steven's grip.
Does anybody know what mallets she is using?
I wonder if the slapping/snap pizzicato de-tunes the cellist and bassists' strings from all that irregular amount of tension.
I'm working on the 4th movement right now, and I'm trying to decide what type of mallets to use. Any suggestions?
e pensare che sto concerto lo devo fare tra un mese =(
Where can I find the orchestra score of this concerto?
Džiugas Daugirda I have the piano reduction.
I don't know the piece... but the unsynchronized parts sounds intenional and dare I say wrong (at least weird). evelynn's own twist? piece made that way? Or just some orchestra vs evelynn problems?
そして、成功して・・・。花束を贈呈するほうだったんだ。
alright, this is reassuring. if she can miss notes i can miss notes!
@PitKid1996 looks like burton
what technique is she using?? how can she play that fast without missing notes!! AND SHE'S PARTIALLY DEAF! oh my gosh, beast? yeah, i think so.
crap
