Nearly started crying. When I had heard these two sing for the first time, I knew it was something i had to do. One day I'll have my stage and spotlight. These two beautiful women are my inspiration to sing and act and perform in general. There will never be a better Elphaba or Glinda
just listen to that voice....to be able to sing like that under those stressful conditions while sick...and she's not just singing, at the end she is belting, which requires such an incredible amount of air it is unbelievable. just outstanding.
Hearing her struggle to breath between versus makes me lungs hurt. asthma blows, my own asthma has gotten in the way of performances before. it really speaks to her skill that she still went out there and sounded amazing as always!! she is my idol!!!
I am so hoping to see this show again in San Francisco in the coming months. This song alone gives me goosebumps. It's so powerful and it just... Damn.
Because of Idina and this Broadway play, I have made it my life goal and dream to be a broadway actress and hopefully someday perform as Elphaba, I would love to meet Idina just to thank her for all the ispiration she has been for me and for her just being an amazing person in general... GO IDINA KEEP DEFYING GRAVITY!!
WICKED!! i watched this in Chicago City and it was AMMMAAAAAZING. When she sang defying gravity, everyone got goosebumps and i saw everyone was breathtaken.
This is one of the greatest musicals ever created. I usually prefer the rock musicals but this is one of the first musicals I ever loved. LOVE YOU IDINA!!!!!!!! YOU FUCKING ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally saw Wicked last month. Honestly, I have no desire to see it again. It has a couple good songs, but its hard keeping the audience's interest through the duller songs. Avenue Q was wonderful from beginning to end. I'm really glad that one got the Tony.
All I can say that Idina is amazing and frankly anyones comments against can and should be ignored! Her voice gives me chills everytime I hear it, wether its her singing one of her albums, wicked or rent! Frankly anyone that can play Elphaba has talent, Its a hard part to play! I could only dream to have her range!
I'm so jealous!! I read Wicked, the book and had to import the CD just to listen to the original broadway cast recording. I love Wicked, I'm just so jealous that I will never get to see Idina and Kristin perform this ... because I live in Singapore .... I hope they release a good DVD version of this sometime, like they did with Cats. I love this song, I love Popular, I love What is this feeling and I love For Good .... Wassup to all the Wicked fans out there!!!
i love this vid, its so hard to find actual footage of wicked, and god knows that i might never ge to see kristin and idina in wicked, being a 14 year old in pennsylvania. I absolutely love it. One quick question. what is on kristin's forehead? there's this bmp or somethin and it's driving me crazy
@seandeaon That's only because Wicked is easy to cast for. Avenue Q requires people who are able to sing, dance, act, Muppeteer (puppeteering is different), and play at least 3 characters simultaneously. Unfortunately, many people with those kinds of talents can only be found on Sesame Street (which is where all the original Broadway puppeteers came from for Avenue Q). And not all of them want to do 8 shows a week in NYC. Wicked only requires people who can sing, dance, and act.
I worked on Wicked with Idina and she sings wonderfully. It's true she had her shaky moments, but in my personal opinion the emotions were overflowing and she killed it at the end
Idina Menzel is incredible. I'm totally in love with her. I hope when the movie version is made that Idina and Christin play their roles together again.
yeah same here, I live in Northern Ontario and I wish I could have seen Idina and Kristin perform before Idina went to the UK and Kristin's herniated neck discs after a hair flip incident?
Idina will always be the original Elphaba to me just because she was the one who got me obsessed with Wicked. But I ADORE Kerry Ellis and have seen her twice in London :) I think all the actresses bring themselves into the role and they're all good :)
Oh the real version is always better. People who like this song on Glee should hear the Wicked version. I never got tired of this song. Number one on my iPod!
@masterscruf I don't know that I agree. You can see her struggle to hit those high notes at the end but w/e. The rest is amazing - especially when her and Kristin sing together it's just magic.
:-( i wish idina wasnt sick during this performance becuase its my favorite song! but i think that with her illness and it being the tony awards, singing in front of millions, she did great
Wow! Asthma? poor Idina! Still she did a great performance. Of course her "Downs" and her "ooww" are shaky but GOD with Asthma the result was outstanding. That shows what a talented a great performer she is. Idina is without a doubt the best Elphaba in all of Oz that is or was and nobody will ever bring her down.
if you have so much experience and know what that's like, then you know that it's no excuse. I'm an actor and I know that my work in life is done in front of huge groups, so pressure or not, you have to perform at your best.
it ia very much yrue she had a astma attack before she went on... and even though they insisted that she did not she is a true diva and still went on and gave a great performance... i love her...
Does anybody know why Kristin is not wearing her yellow dress for this song? The dress she has on is what she wears at the beginning of the musical. I am just curious.

this song is so amazingly beautiful, it literally makes me cry every time i hear it.
I watched this a couple of weeks ago in London's West End and it is amazing! One of my favourite musicals so far.
I love wicked... nothing more to say... gonna see it next week in London..AGAIN yay
Hearing her struggle to breath between versus makes me lungs hurt. asthma blows, my own asthma has gotten in the way of performances before. it really speaks to her skill that she still went out there and sounded amazing as always!! she is my idol!!!

Wow Idina's voice gives me the chills! She's so fantastic! The whole cast is amazing!
I saw this musical the spring of 2012, and I would have to say it's improved a lot...
the look on Taye's face is priceless. His pride in his wife is super obvious and it is adorable!
I agree, this song is hard enough even on the best of days.
This girl created this part. She delivers this with so much power everyone who follows her has to try and better it. Catch Rachel Tucker in London
WICKED!! i watched this in Chicago City and it was
AMMMAAAAAZING.
When she sang defying gravity, everyone got goosebumps and i saw everyone was breathtaken.
The moment she rises to the sky brings out the gay theatre queen in me everytime!!!!!!!!

She did AMAZING for being sick.
She inspires me so much.
All I can say that Idina is amazing and frankly anyones comments against can and should be ignored! @seandeaon That's only because Wicked is easy to cast for. I just learn how to play Defying Gravity in my guitar!! This song is so awesome!!
True, true.
Into The Woods is one of my favorites because of Bernadette.
Julie Andrews rules, too. Mary Poppins? Sound of Music? Awesome :D
The best! Idina brought Elphaba to life!
yeah same here, I live in Northern Ontario and I wish I could have seen Idina and Kristin perform before Idina went to the UK and Kristin's herniated neck discs after a hair flip incident?

Idina will always be the original Elphaba to me just because she was the one who got me obsessed with Wicked.
But I ADORE Kerry Ellis and have seen her twice in London :)
I think all the actresses bring themselves into the role and they're all good :)
wicked is the best musical ever, and idina and kristen should be on the tony walk of fame! ;-) (if, of course, there were such a thing)
Doesn't get much better than this.....
She was really sick that night with the flu and yet she still came to the tony awards poor thing but she still the coolest singer for wicked ever!
Aww, they were soooo great! :(
Wish there was a LOVE button!
Whats the story line?
i've heard alot about it but never really heard what it's about.
Oh the real version is always better. People who like this song on Glee should hear the Wicked version. I never got tired of this song. Number one on my iPod!

You can see her struggle to hit those high notes at the end but w/e. The rest is amazing - especially when her and Kristin sing together it's just magic.

That shows what a talented a great performer she is. Idina is without a doubt the best Elphaba in all of Oz that is or was and nobody will ever bring her down.
ya ur right and because elphabas character basically belts all her songs her throat was raw ecspecially after doing wicked for 2 yrs
@tanerx actually, Avenue Q left Broadway and is now playing at New World Stages, which is Off-Broadway.
was the guy at the beggining from cabaret?
So Funny!!!! I might think about turning straight for them..........HAHA
the blonde on is Kristin Chenoweth known by many as Maria Kelly from Bewitched or Annabeth Schott from the West Wing
@FlipsHamilton me too i saw it last year i will love it forever
The book came first, so the musical is based on it, good book =]
Amazing 10**********stars
I like it but I haven't seen wicked yet
if you have so much experience and know what that's like, then you know that it's no excuse. I'm an actor and I know that my work in life is done in front of huge groups, so pressure or not, you have to perform at your best.
it ia very much yrue she had a astma attack before she went on... and even though they insisted that she did not she is a true diva and still went on and gave a great performance... i love her...
Kristen Chenoweth is the best Galinda i've seen...that voice of hers is absolutely perfect and she's adorable on top of it all
Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith are amazing.
Joel Gray. He was in Cabaret and he was the original Wizard.
Does anybody know why Kristin is not wearing her yellow dress for this song? The dress she has on is what she wears at the beginning of the musical. I am just curious.
i love idina!
