Great comparison. FYI… You actually can do the 4 way wiring with the fender pickups. You just need to snip the ground link between the pickup ground point and the cover on the neck pickup and add the third wire to the cover. Job done.
Dang. I have to admit I like the Fender better. Used to have Blondies and loved them. Also like.my classic T stock pickups. You're right pickup height is key.
Lambertone's sound almost shrill on the high end. To be fair, I'm more of a P90 / humbucker sound. My 50th Anniversary American Deluxe Strat came with SNC noiseless pups, I've since upgraded them to Fender Gen 4 Noiseless.
Gotta say, was super surprised about the Pure Vintage 64 Fenders. Punched way above their class here! Nice video. That gold Japanese Tele you have there is beautiful, passed up an opportunity to buy one in Melbourne about a year ago and due to low funds, couldn't make it happen. Kick myself for it a fair bit actually.
I watched your old video about the fender telecaster yesterday and was wondering if you still have it because I'm thinking about buying one. Today this video comes from you :-)
Geat video, you did great work, man! But...Wanna change your tele tone? Here's what I learned with my tele: 1) before changing pickups, try change your pots to 500K or even 1M - it will increase resonanse peak height, 2) buy a good cable with minimal catacity (measure it in the shop with a multimeter), less capacity = higher resonance frequency = brighter sound, 3) remove that neck pickup cover = more treble, 4)change your speaker = changing total tonal balance.
@@ZachBrobstMusicalso, I've just tried anti-mud mod, shown by Waylon McPherson Guitar on youtube. It really eliminates cable influence! I love Internet :D
The fenders clean have a resonance that was more pronounced at first, but honestly they sound the same to me the more the video goes on until the last clip. If anything from this video if I were to be at the point of choosing between fender and lambertones I’d be happy with either and whichever put the smallest dent in my pocket. They are so close I’d never look back.
Even though I’m a worship guitarist, looking for different pickups for my tele, the main reason I clicked on this video is to see which Kings of Leon riffs/licks are played. Two of my favorites. Not disappointed.
The odds of finding someone demoing the pure vintage 64s in a jv modified tele like mine were incredibly low... Or so i thought! Did you find the upgrade worth it on that specific Tele? Those sounds clips were super valuable to me, thank you!
Hey dude! Honestly - I love the Vintage '64s and think they're some of Fenders best pickups out there. I like them a lot and even though the original JV modified pickups are solid, I think I like the 64s better.
I'm looking at these two pickups and the Shaw Hot 50's. I do like m bridge pickup to have a single coil classic sound, but I do play punk and heavier rock every once in a while. Where I notice the biggest difference is palm muting. Do you get a good punk palm mute out of the Lambertones?
You can but you definitely have to throw in a bit more gain with the Lambertones! I think the biggest difference you'll find is the neck pickup is going to be a lot cleaner on the Blondies but the bridge will be pretty comparable
I’m thinking about swapping my JV’s pickups for the 64s. Do you know if I can use them with the JV’s 4 way? Or do I need the get a three way switch? Thanks and great video
Thank you! You can actually do the 4 way wiring with the fender pickups. You just need to snip the ground link between the pickup ground point and the cover on the neck pickup and add the third wire to the cover.
As looking for my first telecaster guitar and your video popped up on my feed. So I sub after watched your two telecaster videos. Originally was set on the JV because build quality but seeing Psalm guitar i may change my mind. Can you provide your Psalm specs and would you recommend Psalm over Fender if both has Lambertone pickup? Thank you.
Hey there! They're definitely different guitars. The JV modified is really killer and I think I personally enjoy playability more than the Psalm series but the Psalm series in more of a modern build, C neck, medium frets, etc. I've got a coupon for the Psalm series in my description if you're interested! For specs I have blondie pickups & hipshot locking tuners!
@@ZachBrobstMusic thank you for the info, greatly appreciated. I always like the build of Fender’s Japan and I own an aerodyne Strat and just got a Yamaha Revstar RSP02T and both are great. JV tele is no longer available at music shops or Fender website but can find a few online and in Japan. The Psalm pick guard and gold knobs are killer though. Ah, indecision as my tele journey continues. Aloha 🤙🤙🤙🌺🌺🌺
@@ZachBrobstMusic Never cross my mind that it was a Gibson knobs. Didn’t even think about doing crossover brand parts. I felt like the Lambertone’s have a little more “life” to them. The clarity is second to none!

They're really solid guitars for what they are!
Can’t beat the Blondies!! Love them.

Perfect timing! Honestly the JV modified is such a killer instrument man. I really enjoy it
Love you playing KOL licks to test these pickups

Great video! I was trying to decide between the two and went with the Fenders after watching! What song are you playing at 6:50? Sounds awesome!
@@landon3725 thank you! Honestly no idea what song it is. Just found it on a riff video once and loved it so I learned it!
I am wondering if you put a Lambertones neck with Vintage on bridge. what would be the sound if you combine both :D

With these samples I'd go with the Fender pickups. cheaper and honestly feel more controlled in the guitar they are in!
Fenders sound warmer and more balanced
Agreed!
Just got this set of pickups. My only complaint is, that they are microphonic. Is that to be expected?
