Never knew about this before you mentioned it a few days ago. Now its at the top of my list for interesting first cars. Definitely gonna keep my eye out for them.
I drive a Daihatsu Copen with the "Big-block" 1300cc, basically the regular, lower compression version of your Sirion's engine. I can tell you that the 1300cc out of the Rallye2/ Sirion Sport is an engine I'm planning to swap in my little car. I love my little roadster, but for track driving it lacks some power. I would eventually like to tune it to 120-130hp, a solid power but still gives me the "Drive a slow car fast" vibe. As for fuel economy, my Copen does at its worst 27 mpg, that is literally track driving + commuting from the petrol station to the track. It will do over 50 on the highway.
Hi Mike! Spacious interiors in little Kei cars like your Daihatsu aren't that rare as you might think. One of my cousins had a 2000s Renault Twingo and despite being such a small car, its interior was quite big, enough for five people to fit inside without having to worry about being cramped at all. Merry Christmas!
My mum bought one new here in belgium. The chassis rusted away within 7 years and wasn't economical to repair. The airbag popped 2 times as we drove thru a pothole but i think that was just our car 😅
In Australia they're called a Sirion GTvi. I have the auto version, they have shift buttons on the steering wheel with a gear indicator in the centre of the dash. The auto must rev lower as it's great on the highway. I put larger stiffer 185 tyres on mine, it handles like a go-kart now.
Yep I have a manual gtvi in Western Australia. Have 15s on it now witb coil overs and exhaust and I love it.great underestimated car. Love mine. Good to see these are appreciated. Great little car
I have a Rally 2 almost identical to this, 130k on the clock and going strong! Fantastic little car, have spent the past year doing autotest events with it. Great to see such an in depth review of a car this uncommon!
Most of these don't have a k.n air filter or the lowering springs or the uprated brakes they come with . I bought one and had to buy new lowering springs £99 / k&n air filter £50/ EBC brake discs and upgrade pads £115 . If you rev them out in second gear it will see 70mph at 7900rpm just as the rev limiter kicks in .. first second and third, it's fast but as sooner as u change in to fourth the power dies .. ps they don't like big hills.. but you do feels that Kent cam that's fitted to the exhaust valves and vvti push u like a turbo kicked in at 4000 rpm in second... It does give u a kick in the back especially for a 1300cc motor but the car feels tin like .
2019+21: German wins COTY 2020: British COTY 2022: American COTY 2023: Japanese COTY Slowly ranking up country diversity for winners. France, Italy, Sweden and South Korea remain (I'd be shocked if a Ferrari FF manages to make the shortlist and not get COTY)
i had an older version of this car namely the daihatsu mira L502s my version was 850cc paired with a 5 speed top speed was 130 km/h byt it felt fast for a first car handled good too
D'you know, anyone who doesn't get this kind of car is the sort of car driver I have absolutely nothing in common with. I'm increasingly estranged from those who think EVs going along in warp speed silence is some kind of enthusiast pursuit, when its pointing a very capable device at a road and backing out before you're in license-losing territory within 3 seconds. There's no craft in that, pulverising a road with a 2-tonne plus behemoth with zero drama. Screw those guys, they'll never 'get it.'
Good cars but the ignis sport is a far better car, and paper stats are way out. Majority of ignis are actually 115-120bhp and 0-60 in about 7-8 seconds.

Good look they are rare
I would love to one day get a little box like this to chuck around. Looks so fun!
Love little cars like this! Great review!

I don't think I've ever been called out more accurately by a RUclips video intro in my life.
lol

As long as you bought it right, when it breaks, junk it. Thanks for the great review. And Merry Christmas!
I first found out about this specific Sirion from seeing one of these on Ebay.
I have a Toyota duet 2003 automatic and i love it.
Great lightweight sleeper.
If u drive that close to me I go v slow. Good luck!

Absolutely, took it to the Haynes breakfast club this past Sunday and it was fun to see people surprised to hear how quick they actually are
White dials=beast
hah
Love Daihatsu Sirions, tell me why are the turn signals on the left? Here in Australia ours are on the right side
No idea on that one tbh, must’ve been made in a different factory I suppose
I replaced the rocker cover gasket and the points on the exhaust Kent cam are as sharp as triangles. For peak lift.

Hello 107 hp mate but 7.9 to 60mph is quick

I wouldn’t swap it for one. I’m sure they’re good, but also a far more known quantity
