I never lived on a rez. They forced my ancestors to sign treaty by force of rifle bearing soldiers.... to sign away whole state of Michigan for pennies, and negotiated individual ownership, then said we owed tax, a provision I see NOT that clause. I am no expert on pine ridge even as my daughter taught English and journalism at red cloud school. So many reasons not to drink, but they do. BUT...no one says you can't move to cities. I found this, they help provide food, equipment for sports teams and I think they have other projects they help with. I am not recommending them personally, but it was something I found so far.
I love the way the adults use the culture and traditions of their ancestors to strengthen the childrens sense of identity belonging and resilience.
I feel every emotion for these children and families, my heart really aches for a world that's made to destroy all our indigenous peoples of the world.

This is my reservation ❤️ I plan to go back and help them as much as possible when I am where I want to be and give back. We need to stop living like this, they put us on these reservations to make us suffer and I’m tired of it. We’re all alcoholics and we all just need someone to talk to. I pray we get better because our ancestors were very sacred people and we want their legacy to live on.❤️✨ I love my native people, stay strong!

There are clearly a number of issues and narratives that relate to your tribe's plight. I found a university course that's coming to Pine Ridge for a few weeks, or months, in May/June time, this year, as part of some kind of community assessment and development. It looks as though there have been a number of good initiatives begun that are offering some helps and services to the people there. The bison meat processing company, food parcels, Waldorf school, environment school, new housing, sponsors for food and clothes, new organic gardens, etc. The issue is you're starting from scratch, and do not have a level of basic sustenance in place, due to the meagre amounts of money that come onto the rez. My view is that capitalism doesn't work, and neither does living outside spiritual principles, for those are the only way to be truly sustainable, as we receive both spiritual power and strength, as well as help from the spiritual guides for our material existence, although this doesn't mean we will be rolling in it, but our needs will be met, if we trust !!!. And your culture was so rich in this regard, so, so rich...and wise !!! And you still have elders there who have wisdom. Do people not listen to them any more??? Not to understand the laws of the Great Spirit is to be ignorant, and therefore unaware of the causes of one's pain, this is why pain comes, so we can recognise these ways and find the way back to the path of the spirit. This takes effort though, and alertness and discipline, and this is why the elders with their wisdom I would have thought could help, but then I don't know the circumstances in your home, but it doesn't sound easy at all. Wish you well on your return there, and may I both thank and congratulate you on doing so, for it proves to me you are a loyal, selfless person, and know that good works are always rewarded in full, for eventually we do reap what we sow, many times over !!! All the very, very best with everything !!!
This little darling reminds me of myself as a young child. My brother doesn’t remember the abuse and neglect that we endured from our family because I protected him from it all. Now I am older and wiser and the Gods are revealing my memories to me daily and in my dreams. I then get the information verified. Y’all need to wake up and smell the damn roses. So precious how she has appreciation for Mother Earth and the plants and how much love she has for her family and it is so important that we do right by these children to give them the life they deserve and pray for their parents to get the help they need and bring them up from the dark to see the value that is the human being who is a guardian of the land plants animals people. I see these Beautiful people who are need of care and love and it is our responsibility to do our part no matter how many times they fall our job is to stand by them and walk with them to see them taken care of. this needs to end no one needs to be left to walk in this world alone and fight the dark by themselves. We stand together to remind them how to walk and how to see their value because from what is can see is the darkness sees how valuable they are that is why the dark tries to keep them in fear, scarcity, and survival mode but we are meant and will thrive on earth and teach them how to stand in their glorious guardians of the planet who we have so much to learn from and follow their beautiful example of how to care for the planet and we need to unite and when we see someone in need it’s our responsibility as United Nations to be there for each other always.

Very heartbreaking.
This whole documentary is incredibly patronizing. What isn't discussed is why the ended up falling into addiction in the first place. It's pretty easy to say "oh just leave" or "just stop drinking" when you aren't the one living in extreme poverty with such an incredible lack of resources.
There needs to be a humanitarian system for those kids to get the help they need, are there charities, they need help!!!! ❤️

Rich kids kill themselves too. They can't help that they're born rich and they have family problems too. I had rich friends in high school and some of them committed suicide. Despair is a horrible thing and anyone can choose to give into it.

Children living in such difficult situations are the only reason I would love to be really rich. Sadly, children are also the reason I will never be rich because I chose teaching as a career and we all know how poorly teachers are paid. But I give them my all and I do what I can to help each child.

How can I help?
I don't live on a reservation, my tribe is in South Dakota. I have very little Sioux blood. I live in California. I can't stand to see anyone suffer. I tried to kill myself, a long time ago. I was devastated after my divorce. I was homeless for a time. Those were hard times. I was abused as a child. So, I know what back to Back despair is. I've pulled myself from the wreckage. I had help but not from family. Strangers who were kind, made me want to live again. It changed me in a good way. So good, that I am now a peer mentor.
I would be honored if I could help others out of despair too.
I'd love to know what happened to these folks. These kids are truly wonderful and I hope they have found good, solid opportunities for themselves.
