The bird in the video was hissing due to fear. When hissing in fear they often rock back and forth, stick their crest erect and widen their eyes. When hissing in anger they flatten their crest and open their mouth wide, often while lunging/biting. Also RIP Mickey 🫡
Well a cockatiel can be pretty much scared of anything. If you scare it on purpose it will keep more and more distance from you. So don't blame it when it starts not trusting you.
@XarXazz Pretty much every comment on here has no idea what's going on here. 1. The tiel is hissing at the CAMERA, not the girl "throwing" paper towels on her. Notice how she hisses only when the camera gets close? And the girl is just playing, she's not harming her. Geeze. 2. This cockatiel is a female because it's a normal gray cockatiel, and NG's have yellow faces if they're male, gray if they're female. Get your facts right everyone.
She just doesn't like the camera up close. That's why she hissing at the camera. (^_^ ) My little Cockatiel does that too. But your cockatiel is not freaked out, otherwise she would panic and fly/run away when you were holding the piece of paper above her head.
My cockatiel is a male. Pay attention. If done right the clipping of wings should pose a safety issue for the bird. They're supposed to have some left so they can safely land.
That's a female grey colored cockatiel. The male greys have an all yellow face and will talk more as well. Under the tail females have that checkered pattern and males do not. I know it's a female cause I used to have a grey colored male and female cockatiel.
mine will randomly Hiss and slam her beak like shes taking a swipe at me when i say anything to her when shes upto no good sometimes ill just say Hi to her she will go all like " IM NOT DOING ANYTHING" thats when i know shes upto something totally snitches herself out
I bred cockatiels you wherry. You're first posts are chok full of inignities themselves, do unto others. It's not nessecary to clip wings but I do it to protect my bird's life so he doesn't snap his neck if he flies into a window. Instead he's on my shoulder all day long everyday, and he gets to explore everywhere I go.
(cont'd from jovi) And furthermore I clip my bird's wings because he sleeps at the pet store I run, and I don't want him flying out the open doorway when he's out on my shoulder all day long. It's not a matter of him staying on my shoulder regardless if he's clipped or not. If he wasn't clipped he'd have the option to fly around the store and it's way too dangerous for him to do that freely. I don't have him at the house because I'm at work more than I'm home. Pay attention.
this is a little mean... i know its cute when they do that, and its all right if you have a decent relationship with it, but its still kind of mean. not a good way to get your bird to like you at all.
Whenever i throw toilet paper on my tiel, he just as a temper tantrum and starts banging hi beak on the floor. Your tiel is scared. Whenever a tiel is scared, their antennae feathers stick up 90 degrees and they look skinny and will hiss. A cockatiel that is just angry will have a crest low on his/her head an will just scream and try to bite, not hiss.
and furthermore, how about you leave this video poster alone since you've said quite enough to foul up the reply boards. I think they got the message on the first 5 of your posts jeezus. And your cockatiel, if not given another, will bond as strongly to you as if you were a bird. I've got a White-Faced male cockatiel and he's bonded to me so much he's mated on my hand many many times because he sees me as his sole mate.
First of all, that's a female. Second, why piss off your bird on purpose? All 'tiels hiss when they feel threatened. It's normal, and not something worth filming, let alone purposely upsetting your bird for.
@itshardworktoloveher He is right though, that was mean. He is scared. I don't like it when my cockatiels hiss because I know they are not feeling comfortable.

The crest makes it even funnier

they hiss when they feel threatened or scared....
No, they hiss when they are pissed off, either by showing up at night, or hell, you look at them wrong, they hiss

@itshardworktoloveher your not mean your just playing!
That cockatiel seems to be a female
Male cockatiels don't have the ashy grey faces.

TheDragonCael bruh it’s actually a young male... cause it has more red on its cheek and young males look like this.
Mine hiss because is night outside. I should bring the sun inside?????

it is DEFINITELY a female. Nice looking crest, by the way, like a crown on her head. But please give her girls name, cause she is no boy..
