My father, was an Italian American officer in his twenty third year of service in a Police Department that I will not specify. He was up for an open position with a higher rank . My father scored the highest on the test and was the first choice to be picked among his peers and senior officers. I remember seeing tears of joy on my grandfathers face who, was an Immigrant that came to this country with $7.00 in his pocket. After working his whole life as a landscaper he was seeing the American dream come true for his family. A few weeks before decisions were to be made for the positions, a new policy came into affect. There needed to be and equal numbered of black, white, and Hispanic officers to hold positions of power. My father was not let down easy by this. More simply put, he was told that because his skin wasn’t dark enough he wouldn’t be getting the job. Now I’m not a right winger or a trump supporter. I’m a centrist that believes in fairness and equality for all. I guess what I’m saying is that these call for “equality policies” in the police department have negative effects. I’ve seen them first hand and they are not the answer. Any position in any line of work should go to the applicant that is best fit for the job. Not because of their skin color but for the effort and dedication they have presented.
No one says that it's "the best solution" but it's a good enough bandage until white people and POC have the same opportunities, think about it from whoever got that job's perspective, even though they didn't have necessarily the best scores on a test etc, they were still given the opportunity to prove themselves because their race's struggle was identified as a component of hiring them. Having a ethnically diverse workforce is necessary so we can all catch up to the same level, it is sad your father was denied that opportunity but we have Americas long-term racism to thank for that as a casualty of an effort to repair society, and his employers should have done more for your father and are clearly bad employers if they don't recognise the work of their employees.

Females aren’t as strong as men and we have to understand that
Uh ohhhh
Ikr. Cops are are business and have a job to do. Black or white or Asian or native or Latin, you're now part of an organization with an agenda to support if you become a cop.
I was born not sworn it
What we have here is the dichotomy of existence

This makes me feel better about police, in general. They still fucking terrify me, but at least there are decent ones.
No real sources. Looks like Vox.
The hard cop image needs to go but what can u do when guns are legal? We need way more gun restrictions/bans
"I'm black before I'm blue" - so you make it about race. Okay.
This is about power. Groups of people with little power and those with a lot of power. She's identifying herself first with a group with little relative power in solidarity even though she could just as easily abandon them and completely identify as a cop first. Her choice is what being a decent human being is all about.
@@huehuecoyotl2 groups with little power? The mainstream media protects the criminals all the time blaming cops in racist attacks, and when we see body cam footage and how the things really are, the media are death silent. "The groups with little power" burned and robbed people's businesses and property, burned police departments, and they were praised by the big companies and the media. There are always talks about white on black crimes, but never the opposite. They can talk nasty about race on social media, while a white person will immediately get banned. These are privileged groups you are talking about, not "with little power"..
@@huehuecoyotl2 and yeah, I don't see the outrage about Tony Timpa who didn't do anything as it was about George Floyd who was a drug addict, who got caught doing a crime, and who put a gun to a pregnant woman's stomach.
grow a pair 🥜 🤣🤣
That was Deep 🤦🏾♀️
