Kung Fu is not about fighting, it is all about being close to nature and all the moves are inspires by animals. It is about the chi-energy, the positive energies of nature, that everyone has inside. It is about harmony, both mentally and physically. The Chinese and the Native Americans know all about this; it's the same people. But only the Chinese are left to preserve it. And they do! Best wishes from Linda in Norway, with a Chinese husband.
love their costumes and the kid on 8:18 is so little but has already all those muscles... at least their work their body, learning to be independent instead of playing video games
I guess what it boils down to is weather or not you wish to embrace complete strangers believing your a complete badass, or embrace believing in your complete self at peace.
That kid has been doing kung-fu for 3 years and i bet hes better at kicking ass than i am XD and ive been doing goju-ryu karate for 5 years XDDD congratulations for the shaolin martial artists. i hope your tradition stays alive :) and thanks to the person who uploaded this :D
@1309mw good documentary but i can't see the subtitles. do you know what the name of it is so i can have a proper look for it? no disrespect intended i just want to understand what there saying.
They train about 8 hours per day. Usually waking at about 5:30, training until 7:30, taking a break to eat. Resuming an hour or two later until about 2 pm. Then again until about 6 or 7 pm.
That might be so, but it would most definitely take an EXTREMELY well trained professional to beat them in a fight. These monks could literally destroy someone with hand tied behind their back.
untrue most other fighting styles are based around fighting but this is not they train to always keep calm in situations so they do not forget there training.they build up massive streghnth like no other and tremendiouse speed as well. this making them amazing fighters.
@winek0ne It's not about whether meat is bad to your own body or not. It's because buddha said not to kill in order to satisfy your own taste buds. It's about taking lifes. Shaolin monks eat vegetarian food even though their training is tough
@AnimexWarrior, on a funnier note, do you expect these Kung Fu warriors to carry a 'Inspired by Pankration, Greece, copyrighted from AnimexWarriors country' board every time they make a demonstration of their art? :-))
I'm the luckiest of all ! Master Shi Heng Jun lives in Paris as I do : he oppened a Shaolin Kung Fu Center to provide his culture in France :) I gotta follow his class !!
Well, I should qualify that fist statement by saying wushu is hard to learn and be good at compared to other martial arts styles. But you still have to have energy up the ass to be good at it compared to other styles. I always found it interesting that the term that means "martial art" doesn't refer to one while the one that doesn't is synonymous with it.
We should take some cues from these people. For example their training methods (a part of it), and some principles. Also, these guys don't use "belt ranking systems", which is good; no envy, no useless competitions, no discrimination, etc. This is about a way of life, not sports or contests.
We're disciplined. We're disciplined to BUY things, we're disciplined to WASTE, we're disciplined to CONSUME. We're disciplined to LIVE DISTRACTED LIVES. It's just a matter of what kind of discipline is being taught in the environment you live in.
@surgerryy yes...they can be compared to adult cage fighters. have you seen them? shaolin monks are the closest thing to superhuman this world's ever seen
my favorite part is how the subtitles have subtiles over them.. :| lol say what you want about them and why they might do it or whatever you have to give them props for their skills and their dedication, who wouldnt want to be able to do some/most of the stuff they can do! :)
I dont see why everyone asks why they learn it. Its a way to live life and it makes them feel great. When are you ever going to use video games and youtube in a "real situation". Those who ask what the point is are either sarcastic or ignorant.
they may not be that strong but they do know about pressure points and kill spots so even if a big meathead decided to fuck with one of them he would probably humiliate himself.
Kung fu is a meditation which is base of Buddhism. A person who practice Buddhism with kung fu has the simplest life style on the earth. I wish i could be one of them.
Im not saying that muscles is all, but they do pay a major role in fighting, as do speed and agility. You say The lighter= The faster , but still, If something heavy is thrown in equal speed as something light, the power is greater. So strenght has a equal role as speed, flexibility, agility etc. You just got to find a balance.
@KleineGijsel Alot of these children are in the temples because the parents could not control their kids. They were bad at home or school. Go to the Wo Lau Shan Temple and ask one of the tour guides. They can tell you why most of them are there. And the parents do pay a tuition to the temple.
Wow, that is A LOT of students. I wonder where they all came from. How do their parents precieve this or is a normal cultural practice? Does the governement fund this or do parents pay for their children to get descipline? lol I know too many questions x3
@HIMYMjocke This is one of the many schools in China. Check out this school; Qufu Shaolin Kung Fu School China. To learn real wu-shu and types of martial arts like that, it takes a lifetime to really learn and understand it. Going to the Qufu Shaolin Kung Fu School China, time-wise, depends on the time you can visit china, some go for a month others for a year. Go to your embassy for more info how long you can stay in China and/or contact the Qufu Shaolin Kung Fu School China on their website.
of course more weight is more power, this is important in a ring fight where hitting to throat, eyes, etc is not legal. when those are legal, power is not as important as speed. power is almost not important at all in such situations this is the idea of kung fu, also smaller people focus more on redirecting movements and attacking at angles
@CanadianSushiLover Cultural practice and selection. If their son wanted to become a Shaolin monk, most parents would be completely amazed and very proud.
The kid with the shaved head and orange overalls is the best
Simply amazing. Brillliant! Many throughout the world could use good disclipine, and petty fears wouldnt be an option.
This is prob. THE best doc. on Shaolin Monks. My hat off to National Geo. on this one. 5 stars are not enough.
I for one am thankful you uploaded this. Thank you for sharing knowledge
I really wish the sound effects where not added.
Indeed, nice to finally have an sophisticated respons from someone on youtube. =)
its nice to see shaolin angel on they art,im glad we have angels on earth like that
Damn.... ahhhh wow..... such harsh training, yet it all pays off. Just look at how powerful they are. Even the younger ones. So much ability......

i have deep respect for these people
What a beautiful place to cultivate the body and the mind!
I guess what it boils down to is weather or not you wish to embrace complete strangers believing your a complete badass, or embrace believing in your complete self at peace.
gawd. everyday they go through hell training their way to perfection. and i couldn't be more envious.
Imagine the discipline instilled in those kids. Amazing
Hey, can someone tell me where can i download this DvD from?
but just with the english subtitles plz :S
amazing documental
great documentary.
@1309mw good documentary but i can't see the subtitles. do you know what the name of it is so i can have a proper look for it? no disrespect intended i just want to understand what there saying.
@liftthecurse Perfectly stated. Many people have missed the spiritual meaning behind martial arts.
I watched this in 2002 on Nat Geo! wow youtube!
Those garments look comfortable. Where could I get them in big and tall sizes?
Notice how none of them are wearing glasses. 20x20
They train about 8 hours per day. Usually waking at about 5:30, training until 7:30, taking a break to eat. Resuming an hour or two later until about 2 pm. Then again until about 6 or 7 pm.
Id so hire one of these guys if i had a kabab store.. imagine how fast they could make that
That might be so, but it would most definitely take an EXTREMELY well trained professional to beat them in a fight. These monks could literally destroy someone with hand tied behind their back.
man...how i wish my dad would had droped me there when i was 4 years old
Never mess with a Shaolin Monk. For real.
untrue most other fighting styles are based around fighting but this is not they train to always keep calm in situations so they do not forget there training.they build up massive streghnth like no other and tremendiouse speed as well. this making them amazing fighters.
love this video
@winek0ne

they are so good they could knock them self out
I wish i started that young..
From the slums of Shaolin, Wu Tang Clan strikes again.
They punches steel bars and stuff every day since childhood, MMA guys might look big, but not many of them go through that kind of training.
it's lame they put those noises when they strike n all.
cool video though
@AnimexWarrior, on a funnier note, do you expect these Kung Fu warriors to carry a 'Inspired by Pankration, Greece, copyrighted from AnimexWarriors country' board every time they make a demonstration of their art? :-))

The only accurate sound effect is the swords around 5:30. Those swords are a really thin metal and are made so they make that sound.
The breaking celery sound effects... are those really necessary? >_>
wow!!! amazing!!!
are they also required to go to school to study??? or purely martial arts?/
hey I gotta a question which is the language of the subtitles?
The subtitles are soo nice
@DubstepOverdose Those arent sound effects, its the noise from the clothes when they punch, etc
This is sweet!
is there a version without the foreign sub titles
these people are awesome
Well, I should qualify that fist statement by saying wushu is hard to learn and be good at compared to other martial arts styles. But you still have to have energy up the ass to be good at it compared to other styles.
I always found it interesting that the term that means "martial art" doesn't refer to one while the one that doesn't is synonymous with it.
from when is this documentary?
HAHAHA jag blev så förvånad när jag såg svensk text ^^
That is some straight up, mortal kombat kung fu. I would love to learn the mystical kung fu, "Tong gi gong."
What is the exercise called that they do on 0:22?
I wonder if there's any drop on request ?
We should take some cues from these people. For example their training methods (a part of it), and some principles. Also, these guys don't use "belt ranking systems", which is good; no envy, no useless competitions, no discrimination, etc. This is about a way of life, not sports or contests.
pure intensity
@TheDoctorwhofan456 No, they have western acolytes in the temple.
This is equivalent to becoming a jedi. In our galaxy that is.
Does anyone know what form the children are doing from 42 seconds to 1:07. It looks cool.
We're disciplined. We're disciplined to BUY things, we're disciplined to WASTE, we're disciplined to CONSUME. We're disciplined to LIVE DISTRACTED LIVES. It's just a matter of what kind of discipline is being taught in the environment you live in.
@surgerryy yes...they can be compared to adult cage fighters. have you seen them? shaolin monks are the closest thing to superhuman this world's ever seen
why they added that souds of fights from B-like kung fu movies?
mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn cool i wanna learn it now
why do i feel like the shaolin will some day take over the world once they get a big enough army
my favorite part is how the subtitles have subtiles over them.. :| lol
say what you want about them and why they might do it or whatever you have to give them props for their skills and their dedication, who wouldnt want to be able to do some/most of the stuff they can do! :)
if we have an alien invasion call these guys
the sounds are so fake it almost ruins the video
I dont see why everyone asks why they learn it. Its a way to live life and it makes them feel great. When are you ever going to use video games and youtube in a "real situation". Those who ask what the point is are either sarcastic or ignorant.
they arent allowed to fight but they do know how to fight. and shaolin kung fu was started for self defense
they may not be that strong but they do know about pressure points and kill spots so even if a big meathead decided to fuck with one of them he would probably humiliate himself.
And Chuck Norris, for the first time since the Big Bang (his Conception, not the Universe), Bowed his head in respect.
What are all these techniques against a very small piece of metal named BULLET ?
Kung fu is a meditation which is base of Buddhism. A person who practice Buddhism with kung fu has the simplest life style on the earth. I wish i could be one of them.
Makes me a little sad that they're not allowed to fight people
Sick!
lol i would love to see you fight a monk with no life see how long you last with one
Im not saying that muscles is all, but they do pay a major role in fighting, as do speed and agility. You say The lighter= The faster , but still, If something heavy is thrown in equal speed as something light, the power is greater.

the shoalin monks are like the swat+spetsnaz+green beret back in the day in china
@Malkesnitten aaah cmon, don't you just love them? ;D specially that punch-sound from cartoons.
@KleineGijsel
Alot of these children are in the temples because the parents could not control their kids. They were bad at home or school. Go to the Wo Lau Shan Temple and ask one of the tour guides. They can tell you why most of them are there. And the parents do pay a tuition to the temple.
härligt att vara svensk!
@ChodeRigga I'm practesing Kung fu, and it's not sound effects, when you do a movement fast enough the cloth makes that sound
i love when subtitles are blocked by subtitles
Wow, that is A LOT of students. I wonder where they all came from. How do their parents precieve this or is a normal cultural practice? Does the governement fund this or do parents pay for their children to get descipline?
lol I know too many questions x3
@MrFreskie why would they need a computer? Present is fuckd up.
@HAHmonk i completely agree I am heading to the temple this week
shaolins ftw !!

@CanadianSushiLover Cultural practice and selection.
