Very helpful, do you know where to find those pucks or are they only available as antiques?

If you want the small puck like I have then your best bet is Ebay as a Boy Scout sharpening stone, carborundum is the older name for silicon carbide and Norton makes contemporary versions. Mileage may vary as the old hones had tons of different number designations which indicated grit but not in the standard grit. Since the company closed many numbers are still a mystery to collectors.

@@honorableoutfitters dang I was hoping it wouldn’t be so complicated. Fortunately there’s a few originals on eBay available.

My grandfather worked at the Carborundum plant in Niagara Falls, I have tons of the flat rectangular stones! My mother is from Eastern Ohio, near Steubenville. Where do you haul from?

Thank you for the support! I am born and raised in Ohio, I love the Carborundum stones. They are reliable, fast cutters, and as long as you maintain them they do not clog or glaze too quickly.

How much pressure do you put on the stone when sharpening a blade?

Thanks for the question! I tried to explain this in more detail in this week's video and I think I will do a video in the future expressly on the skill of sharpening. If you want to cut straight to the answer skip to 13:18. My stone progression on a knife that needs bevel correction is around 800 grit to 1000 grit and generally that is sharp enough for field work. Don't go up any higher unless it shaves hair at this level. I hope it helps and let me know if you have any other questions. ruclips.net/video/xrFqL3Lerug/видео.html
