    I believe this has happened before on an episode. There is a small floating mini buoy you can buy online or at a marine supply store to attach to your key chain. In the event you drop your keys the mini body floats and you can find your keys. Good luck!

      Good solution! It definitely happened before, but it was Angelina who dropped them. They successfully got them back at the time. Fingers crossed this set will be found, too.

      You beat me to this as I was going to say exactly the same. The cork ball key rings that you buy for boat keys are excellent because they are made to float and also would probably be too big to slip between the bridge boards. Another solution would be to put something under the gaps in the bridge by the door to catch anything that drips through them (or block the gaps). These solutions have to be easier than fishing for lost submerged keys. X

    • @rynait
      @rynait 2 года назад

      my family did the same, sailing craft. we had to figure out how many keys it holds and float. keep in mind there are various models and designs. Our floated 3 keys. so we selected (targeted) keys; vehicle, main boat key and a padlock key (to galley box cover on the dock). for her with the lost sets of keys, might contain more keys than the float can handle, since you can go down there, attach a length of ribbon which will lay on top of detritus.

    I hate to say this but that moat is not at all healthy for the fish or other wildlife. You need to make it a priority next year to clean it out, and do something for the water quality. In addition, if you still want to dig out the chambers under the chateau, you will need to drain the moat to remove the water from there too.

    Phil you should put chicken wire mounted to the underside of the bridge to catch anything that falls thru the cracks and it won’t be seen when looking from the side of the bridge. Cheers Kirk

    I love your videos, you sweet duo. Years ago, I locked myself out of car twice in two days. Never again. I never leave house without neck lanyard w/xtra car, house keys, tiny flashlight,
    whistle. After AM bath, get dressed, if watch goes on, lanyard goes on. Never been locked out again (in 30+ yrs). Works for me.And keys on lanyard---easier to find, I suspect, if lost.

    Two key related options, first you could get one of those chains that rewind and attach it to your key ring and the other end to your belt so you can’t drop them in the moat in the first place or go to a store get a floating key ring they are often used by boaters so try a boating/diving supply house to source it. It’ll be a bit bulky but easier than ‘mining the moat’. Good luck with the keys already in the moat though.

    A Preventative Suggestion. Good Evening from Canada! Thank you both so much for all of your wonderful videos. I hope this finds both of you and Lightning well. Since you have access to the underside of both bridges how about making "a safety net?" You could use long lengths of fine door/window screen cut to the length of each bridge. To make it wide enough sew or glue a few panels together and when they are wide enough they could be secured to the underside of the bridges out-of-sight by spacing grommets in the screen and attaching the net with carabiners to either the metal bridge supports or hooks into the wooden deck base with screw in hooks. Keep a bit of slack in the net so nothing bounces out but at least if something fell through you could easily retrieve the item. When its completed it would be low profile and drak enough to blend into the bottom of each bridge.
    Best of luck to you both in all of your ventures and health. I hope you get your keys back.
    P.S. Hope all is going well at the Red Lion Pub as well!
    Take care Cheers.

    I noticed there is fish in there, kind of hard not to miss lol, but have you guys thought of draining that moat and looking into sealing the edges and bottom so that you can drain the basement and tunnels below the chateau?
    Will also make things much much easier to find any dropped items. Kind of hope that huge fish didnt swallow the keys when they plopped and hit the water thinking they were food.

    My grandchildren would help you. They call it magnetic fishing. We spent a lot of time during the summer holidays doing this as they enjoyed cleaning out the local river. We like to think we are helping the environment. Our biggest find was a metal railing and watching them work as a team to get it out was interesting.

    There are a couple of solutions to that problem. One being keep a spare key somewhere that you can get to it (meaning making extra keys). Or you can get a floating disk/ring to attach to your key ring. Apparently this has happened before. Another thing you can do is put new slats of wood on the bridge and close all the gaps and use a fencing around the sides to stop anything from falling in the moat. Have a great day

    At a guess, you probably found a variety of junk people tossed because it was convenient. A bicycle? Parts to a lawnmower? A rake? Your moat is quite tidy, at least under the bridge.
    This would be a good time to hide a set of keys to the house/car somewhere on the property (other than in the moat Lol).

    Phil! Like others have said we’ve all been through this before🤣. Corks, small plastic ball etc etc. I know this as have a small tinny boat and 2 jetskis. First priority is put your keys on a floating device. If you love being surrounded by water then it’s a must. Although 12 years of boating and jet skiing. I’ve never lost my keys😋😝😝. Oh okay! I once lost my jetski but that’s Symantec’s 😫

  • @VisionaryGardener
    @VisionaryGardener 2 года назад +1

    Keys are generally not magnetic, so I hope you have something else on your keyring that's made of a magnetic metal? I found this out the hard way when I had a key break off in the ignition of a car in extremely cold weather. We couldn't get the portion still in the lock out and had to call a locksmith. I asked him why we couldn't just use a magnet to get it out, and he said that most modern keys are brass, not a ferrous metal, and thus not magnetic. Anyway, hope you find your keys! Might be worth stapling some metal screen underneath that deck to catch things that get dropped.

  • @ItsMe-kw3ph

    I mean, my son has a chain from his wallet with his keychain at the end... Back pocket wallet and front pocket keys. I got it for him because it was fashionable, but he says it's saved his bacon a few times keeping him from losing one or the other.
    My stepfather used to have a bunch of keys on him at all times because he would switch between two vehicles several times a day, plus the keys to his business were many. He had one of those things janitors use that are on a cord and retract into a jobby that clips to a belt loop.
    It seems to me that floating keys is great, but not having them get that far would be a better plan? Plus you don't have to worry about them when you're out and about either.

  • @christahornberger8593

    I had a similar problem once.
    I put a peice of plywood under at an angle for leaf debris & rain to shed away but more solid objects like keys, screws, tools to stay for a few hours until I could shimmy down & around to retrieve. The wood could be painted to blend in with the buildings stone.
    Just an idea, dunno if it'd cause more greif then good.
    The rabbit wire someone mentioned below would be good too but I'd cover with a large cheap outdoor mat or rug during the fall to keep debris out of the wire.
    Probably a lot of kids toys in that moat too. Too bad there's no way to really dredge it to see what kind of non-metal goodies there are.

    Even if you can't find them, no one else can either.
    Why not just scoop out the muck for your garden? I mentioned on another site that muck is a good fertilizer and yours may not be polluted with chemicals except possibly lead from roof flashing. You could use that on flower beds anyway. It doesn't sound like you have deep layers of leaf rot but that still doesn't help water quality. The rotting leaf matter draws oxygen from the water and makes it harder for fish. At least that's what the state environmental protection lab told us in the district over 30 years ago.
    Decay is slow combustion. Maybe not the moat but ponds tend to stratify in layers and a badly mucked up pond can have a dead zone, zero oxygen layer at the bottom. The pond at the center of the district I live in was about 60 feet deep before the area was developed in the early 60s and has lost about 20 feet since then. We have gravel or what NH calls dirt and sand roads. Any heavy rainfall washes tons of it into the feeding streams and that eventually makes it to the pond. In other words there is 20 plus feet of quick sand at the bottom of the pond. .In 100 years or so the whole pond will be a swampy quick sand bog with no fish but a lot of swamp life. .

    Maybe block the gaps under the bridge with wooden slats. So as not to see it from above 🤨 not all the way but just in front of the door area.

    Is there a way to dredge the moat and have some kind of filtration from the water source? I know leaves will always fall in the water every autumn.
