Frida was gorgeous and had a hot body, but she was recognized for her talent first, then her looks. Agnetha was a studio pop star, but lacked stage and live singing experience. A great book about ABBA -- ABBA: Bright Lights Dark Shadows by Carl Magnus Palm Frida gets more attention than Agnetha because of her stellar reputation as a top vocalist and her unique life story. @@danbike9 I greatly appreciate your accounts regarding Frida. I don't know how many Agnetha fanatics have "informed" me Agnetha was always the favorite. She does get a lot of attention, especially from dark haired Latino and Arabic societies. But the real truth started emerging online. I have seen many sites in which the comments and votes supporting Frida way outnumbered those of Agnetha. On one site alone Frida received 1200 supporting votes to Agnetha's 300. And that wasn't an isolated incident. Many viewers believe Frida was every bit as talented and very many think she was as beautiful (often more beautiful) than Agnetha. I have nothing against Agnetha. She is lovely and very talented. But the attempts to mitigate Frida are obviously misguided.
This is what strikes me every time about the Frida-lovers-accounts: why are you always keeping scores? It feels as if Frida herself is annoyed by losing the popularity battle, created in your/her mind and setting the records straight for once... Stating her credentials for everybody to be amazed at, reducing Agnetha to the pretty girl with the nice ass. Add this to your credentials: Frida was the background singer to Agnetha on the first album the 4 of them played together! Just listen to Drom ar drom, och saga saga. And also later on Frida continued to be the background singer on most of the ABBA songs!

(Hidden from my friends-ABBA weren't cool in my circles, too pop,!!) but to me Agnetha is the woman I would walk to Sweden for even now, dodgy hip and all, just to lay a single rose at her feet. I came through the 60s with hundreds of bands and when ABBA broke out in the 70s it was as storm of new sounds that others did not have. And through the years ABBA songs have been playing ever since. And today 40 years later with this album as a comeback is incredible. The album is top level engineering and music skills are all poured into this one album. And what a masterpiece of workmanship by all four ABBA members. All can I say is WOW and thank you for the music.

I was a 10 years old boy in 1976 and we strugle to tune our low quality radios to Radio Free Europe but the signal was so intense jammed by the comunists . We barly hear fragments of songs . But anyway the Dancing Quen tsunami hit even in our country and broke the censorship wall . Finally after two year they start to brodcast ABBA from time to time on national TV. But not for long , just 3 years . Since 1981 Ceausescu paranoia hit the highest level and all was over.

Benny, Bjorn and Michael Tretow, ABBA's engineer, considered Frida a master vocalist as well as her peers.
She first was noticed in grade school. Took the stage at 10. Swept the talent hunts. At age 13, in 1958, she turned pro. In 1964, she won a major Best Vocalist award. In 1967, her big break -- she won National Best Vocalist.

As a child she was told her father was a German soldier and that he was killed at tail end of WW2. That turned out false. She learned in 1977, at age 32, her father was not killed, but very much alive living in Germany. That is a whole other story in Frida"s remarkable life.
Her grandmother took Frida and moved to Sweden before Frida was 2. Her grandmother was strict and distant towards Frida. Her grandmother worked long hours as a seamstress to make ends meet.
Frida started to sing around the house to cope with her lonely and sad childhood. Her teachers in grade school heard her sing and realized she had vocal talent. Frida at a young age decided she was going to become a singer. She started singing in front of her classmates. Then at 10 in charity events. She loved the stage. She won all the talent hunts. At 13, she had already earned respect by seasoned musicians and was hired when she became "legal" to work.
In the late 60's her grandmother passed away. Her grandmother never came to watch Frida perform.
As a child Frida came home to an empty home. it Her grandmother was always working. Frida had a lost childhood. Singing was her escape.
She was happiest during the summer when her grandmother and Frida visited her relatives in Norway. Frida loved her aunt Olivia. Olivia was keen to Frida's loneliness and made sure Frida's summer visits were special.

I came through the 60s with hundreds of bands and when ABBA broke out in the 70s it was as storm of new sounds that others did not have. And through the years ABBA songs have been playing ever since. And today 40 years later with this album as a comeback is incredible. The album is top level engineering and music skills are all poured into this one album. And what a masterpiece of workmanship by all four ABBA members. All can I say is WOW and thank you for the music.

I was a 10 years old boy in 1976 and we strugle to tune our low quality radios to Radio Free Europe but the signal was so intense jammed by the comunists . We barly hear fragments of songs . But anyway the Dancing Quen tsunami hit even in our country and broke the censorship wall . Finally after two year they start to brodcast ABBA from time to time on national TV. But not for long , just 3 years . Since 1981 Ceausescu paranoia hit the highest level and all was over.
