There's been talk of a speedrun to defeat the Shadow Lord. I know someone's been doing tests, but I haven't seen anything concrete out of it. And I'm never touching this category again. Outside of campaigns this would take at least 22 hours, and I simply don't have the stamina.
It's very tough for MMOs like this due to the RNG. It's pretty much impossible to force the game to drop what you need when you need it to drop, so it's a quite different animal than games with guaranteed progression points like character action titles. And of course because these games don't really have an "end," the speedrunner needs to set an arbitrary completion point, like here at level 99. Even so it takes hours upon hours, even at full tilt, and I absolutely understand why Korvana doesn't want to do this again. For reference, back when I was leveling my first job to 75, before the 99 cap, it took me about a full year.

lool... Remember that one Oasis zone where NA and JP groups were battling for that 1 Dragonfly enemy who dropped a hat item? 3agi/3dex from what I remember. Sitting in that zone for hours upon hours, doing nothing, waiting for a group. Though, to be fair, I came from EQ, where I'd be soloing as a druid in various animal-heavy zones for 6+ hours, waiting for a group, so I was used to it.
I typed FFXI speedrun into youtube's search box as a joke, thinking surely no one would attempt such an undertaking. I remember almost everything in this game taking like 30 minutes, even walking across town. Insane.
I haven't played this game since the Japanese system stopped accepting payment from outside the country. Played this game from 2002 on a Japanese PS2 until about 2011 or 2012. I miss it dearly. Knowing what life was like before Zilart, watching this run is simply magic. Awesome video!
I used to go mining in Yughott Grotto to make money when I first started in 05. Back then a Gold Ore could go for 25k each, and I would spend literally hours doing nothing but mining. There was sometimes like 3 or 4 people down there fighting for those dozen or so mining points.
I only came back recently and watching this showed me things I hadn't even realized. You can teleport at the crystals now! WTH lol Lots of other great strats too
It only takes a few minutes to unlock, and I tested the damage output of DRG/WAR vs WAR/--- and found it to be about double. Even considering the extra 220,250 exp to get DRG up to 48, in the face of 2.4m exp it was worth it.
Around the 5 hour mark you stay around Valkrum and Buburimu instead of going to higher level areas like Delkfutt's, and you spend a bunch of time going after specific enemies instead of killing everything, what are you doing what strat is going on?
So I'm checking through this 16-hour video I'm just going to leave some notes as I go. For the individual summon commands for trust you can actually do two or three trusts per macro with a forward/ wait tested from 3 to 5 Seconds. Also you only need one macro with/refa space all if you want to release all of your trust at once. Mind you the trust have been massively updated Val just got a massive update and provokes an AOE provokes like mad so in this video he just stands there the updated one is a lot more aggressive. Also the Echad xp ring was discontinued in 2018. This is at 31 minutes I'll have more to say On the quiff IM map right where they did return Warp where that big ball of purple is going there is a crystal there now run over there and get it. I would also hop on the mount and to the left there's a tower on the outside of that Tower there's a survival book I would get that as well and you can go in the tower and there's a survival book in there as well where there is no mobs time frame 1:54:10 2:40:14 So I am assuming their is maps open on another screen because one does not remember all of that mine normally. Bgffxi wiki is a good site.
From my previous tests. I updated the route many many times, and also none of these splits were tested during the campaign. In particular, all the splits from DRG30 onward were made during that earlier test when I tried taking WAR to 99.
Did you buy a brand new copy of FFXI just to do this run? Or is there some other way to get the chocobo shirt and the destrier beret that I'm not really aware of?
Yeah, I bought a new copy for $10 when it was on sale. I've been waiting for the right time to use those codes. I think I could have done without, honestly, but I intended this to be the fastest possible (DLC isn't allowed in the non-campaign run category).

Nope! Kupofried is available among other gifts, and gives a +10% EXP bonus but takes up a trust slot. I'd rather have more DPS or heals. Fablinix has Treasure Hunter though, so he was useful while farming Bee Pollen and subjob items.
The mount is super useful! It takes 13 minutes but increases speed by 60% (previously 100%). It's safe to say I spend more than 22 minutes (13/0.6) traveling outside after getting the mount, which means huge time saved. Also LB2 becomes extremely easy with it (7:30:10)

@@willwinning3643 they upped the xp for kills and this was probably during a xp bonus campaign and using xp rings.

over 4000 exp for a kill, I know they made the game easier, but really! I remember when having over 250 exp in a full party was good.
This is during an EXP campaign with a ring that gives +150%, which is boosted to +600% for weird reasons

It's actually because if you're level 10+ in certain zones (Windurst Walls, Lower Jeuno) you trigger cutscenes for other scenarios.
/refa all to get rid of trusts all at once.

Try a speed run on private servers old school playing 0-75 without all trusts and abyssea only first 3 addons :)
It don't take that long anymore... Takes about 5to6 hrs...
Not with a fresh character it doesn't... doing all of the initial quests, subjob, limit breaks, etc, etc

This could be done faster if you used the Cut-Scene Plugin in Windower4. It causes them to load faster.
