  • While this is not a "keto" video, there's a pretty strong correlation between coffee drinking and folks who do keto or low carb. For a while, I've been debating on a number of different coffee makers to replace the inconsistent results I seem to get from a French press, and I settled on the Ninja CP301.
    In this video, Courtney and I unbox this unit and really put it through its paces. We share what we love about it and what improvements we'd like to see.

    I have an older model of this Ninja and it has a delayed start where you can set the time. Weird they would have taken that out. I use it all the time.

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  Год назад +3

      you CAN do a delayed start (I think in 30 minute increments), but you cannot set a specific start time so far as I can tell.

    • @erickranz
      @erickranz Год назад +3

      @@SeriousKeto I would double check (since it seems like a feature you really want!) The clock area looks identical to my years old model. I think to use it I hit delay brew than change the clock to whatever time I want it to start then press delay brew again. I cannot imagine why they would've gotten rid of that once they put it in?

    • @SeriousKeto

      So, I just checked it out and in what will neither be the first time nor the last, I was incorrect. You CAN, in fact, set it to a specific start time. Thanks for setting me straight.

    I have this coffee maker, I have had so many Keurig, Cuisinarts, traditional coffee makers, French press. This has been the best overall coffee maker that does everything balanced doesn’t burn coffee. It’s hot but doesn’t burn the coffee. It’s just best overall. It doesn’t stand out in anyway just does it all in a decent way. I had the other model with the frother on the side but this has been superior even though the appear to be the same

    Thanks for the review. I will stick with my Keurig. It does everything that I need and has worked flawlessly daily for 5 years. Cheaper too. I like using one K-cup for a large coffee. Not wasteful. When I make tea, I just put a tea bag in my tall Yeti and push start for the hot water. Really easy. My wife uses a regular coffee pot that makes 10 cups of coffee when she needs more. It cost about $25 and has lasted a long time (cannot remember when we bought it). The cappuccino part was funny. Thanks!

  • @IllumeEltanin
    @IllumeEltanin Год назад

    I also have the older Ninja Coffee Bar model. Mine has the thermal carafe, which holds the coffee warm about 90 minutes, but with three coffee drinkers in the house, a carafe rarely lasts that long.
    My reservoir has markings on the side for Cup, Tumbler, Half Carafe, and Full Carafe. I follow those markings for the various sizes I'm making, keeping in mind a cup is 6 oz so I need more than that for an 8 oz Cafe Forte.
    I love the variation in brew sizes one can get. 4 oz on Specialty, 6 oz for a cup, 8 oz for Cafe Forte, 14 oz for tumbler, 16 oz XL tumbler, 30 oz half carafe and 60 oz carafe.
    I do find I still prefer using my stove top moka pot for espresso/cappuccino than the Specialty setting. But the 4 oz size is perfect for topping off a mug if the carafe has been emptied.
    My biggest complaint/warning is regarding the placement of the reservoir. If I remove mine to fill, I have to line it up about 6 inches above where it sits and slide it down the side of the machine to get it to sit properly. Before I figured that out I woke up several mornings to water leakage all over my counter and even into the drawer below. The sliding seems to work.
    Others in the Ninja Coffee Bar Recipes and More group on another app find leaving the reservoir in place and filling from a pitcher to be easier. Not a hassle for those who filter their water first.
    I hope this is helpful. Enjoy your Ninja!

    Thank you for your review. The especially coffee has to be done by itself, and you don't get to pick how much of it, is just one serving. Afterward, you typically mix it with your second hot combination, like frosted milk, etc.

    Exactly the same model, just got it recently and playing with that make me to become a coffee addict. I like my coffee a little stronger so using the rich mode with 3 small scoops of coffee for a large cup. In a small cup warm up my half and half with the sweetener and after frothing it up pour over the coffee. The specialty mode it gives more like a espresso with 3 small scoops of coffee. Also like to use the tea maker which for me is on a weaker side . Bothe coffee and tea are smooth without the bitterness.

    Nothing against all fancy and high-quality coffee makers but just using refillable K-Cups in my Keurig has gone a long way to having quality coffee for a rather inexpensive price. And going to step further if you happen to have Aldis in your area: I really enjoy their organic bags of coffee -especially their dark roast Mexican and Sumatra blends... ;)

  • @ramonagatewood2019
    @ramonagatewood2019 Год назад

    I have a Keurig espresso machine. It uses ground or k cup coffee. To make a cappuccino you use the "shot" setting which makes a very small amount of brewed coffee. Experiment with the amount of scoops to use until you get the brew strength you want. It also has a "strong" option. The frothed milk goes on top (milk, half and half, or heavy cream, your choice, but nut milks don't work very well) of the shot to mostly fill up the cup. Use more milk for a latte. The frother has a line marked showing the correct amount of milk to use according to what you are making and does warm the milk while frothing. I use sugar free "Skinny Mixes" syrup. You can also make just regular coffee in an 8 oz., 10 oz., or 12 oz. size cup. My pot was cheaper than yours but doesn't have a carafe, tea, or cold brew option, but if I want hot tea I just run water through with a tea bag in the cup. I imagine I could use the same single cup filter for loose tea as I do coffee but I haven't tried that. The water reservoir looks just like the Ninja's and attaches to the pot just like on the Ninja.

  • @Menditha
    @Menditha Год назад +4

    We also have an older version of this Ninja, and we use the Rich setting for just regular coffee. Don't know if that is of any help to you. Thank you for reminding me that it is supposed to steep tea, too! I'm going to call my hubby's attention to that, as well! Ours does have a little beeping alarm it makes if it runs out of water mid-brew, but I usually walk away and do other things while I wait for my cuppa to brew. It's soft enough that if I'm listening to a podcast or doing anything making much noise at all, I don't hear it. Thankfully my hubby is usually sitting right next to it and rescues me from the frustration of coming back 10 minutes later only to discover my coffee still isn't ready.

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  Год назад +4

      I forgot to mention that when I made my green tea, I used a single bag but set the dial to "rich", so that it would steep just a little longer. "Rich" seems like not only a way to make a "rich" cup of coffee, but also to get the "classic" brew with less grinds.

    A tip I learned for cleaning coffee carafes when I worked at a cafe in high school washing dishes. Put some ice, salt, and an acid like lemon juice or white vinegar in the carafe & swirl it around for a minute, empty it, then rinse it out. Voila! Clean coffee carafe. This would be approximately 1-2 cups of ice 1-1.5 tbsp salt, and about 1 tbsp of either the vinegar or lemon juice.

I purchased this exact unit albeit with the Thermal carafe (hence $30 add on) because I hate coffee that sits on the burner for more than 15-20 minutes. Note, this unit does NOT come with a coffee pot burner regardless of which carafe you purchase. I use the RICH setting because I like my coffee strong. Delonghi has made similar-style coffee makers for decades; But superior to Ninja IMO, i.e., real steam froth, steam brewing, some with built-in grinder, start & stop timers, yet similar price range.
    After going through at least 20 different machines in just as many years, we use a $60 West Bend urn percolator. Rich, flavorful coffee on tap.
    For a start & stop timer? A $6 mechanical outlet timer by BN-Link.

    When you made the cappuccino did you use an espresso grind? It should be a fine grind. Cappuccinos are typically 1:4 ratio of espresso to milk. It should have tasted stronger than a regular cup of coffee. Courtney is right. The steamed milk goes in last.

    Wow, Steve. You really like your coffee or tea weak. That would be equal to hot water to me. I see the appeal of this machine for people who just want convenience and don't know anything about coffee and just want it easy or ready. But I see nothing that would make a better coffee than any manual (cheaper) method. Plus it sounds very plastic-y. Your audio was great and gave me a good impression. It was interesting to see though. I always think I miss out on some things and now I know I don't with this one. Still want the Creami though.
    Now the real test would be to use a $30 cheap coffee machine with the same beans and filter and amount of coffee and water and compare to the Ninja.

    Steve. The biggest problem we have had with new coffee makers is the spout on the carafe. Most of them either drip after the pour or flow over the side if too aggressive with the pour.
    We have only found 1 that worked well out of at least 5 we have tried. Did you notice any problems with this?

    Baristas recommend rinsing paper filters to eliminate possible paper taste. It could make the coffee taste even better.

    Kinda shocked that as much of a foodie as you are, Steve, you haven't really dabbled at all in espresso based drinks like cappuccino. As a Canadian, it is also interesting to see one of the cultural differences between Canada and the US is that most Canadian homes would have a kettle (usually electric). Heating water for tea in the microwave is kinda strange to us! And electric kettles are dirt cheap (cheapest is probably 10-15$).
    This seems a bit too complex and pricey for me to justify using it for drip coffee, and some of the features are a bit gimmicky (the frother seems like a hassle).

    So this can be used to brew tea? I used to have a nice tea maker for brewing tea, a friend tried to use it to make coffee (not remembering to change the steeping section for the coffee making parts... and destroyed it for me... He melted the steeper). I HATE the "Ice Tea" makers that have come out since then, they break down so fast. I may buy one.

    The tea didnt steep enough, it would be too weak for me. I think I'll stick with my kettle and Yorkshire Gold tea bags (Brit imported tea > anything here in the US). I can see this would be useful if you drink a variety of methods. It also doesnt make the most of the ingredients.

    Lots of nifty options! I will complain about the “cold brew” option. It’s really just iced coffee. A true cold brew has to steep for much longer. Sorry, I’m picky lol. As for the Keurig, the premade pods always made me nauseated. You can buy paper filters and a reusable plastic cup to use. You can control how much coffee you put in, and you’re only throwing away the paper filter! No delay start?! Eeks!
