There's another, great side effect of having a level cap : It creates an endgame in a completely different environment. Items, dungeons, professions, everything really becomes a different endgame meta, the best items and farms are completely different and so are the relevant zones. It's amazing! Each time the level cap is raised, it's an all new adventure!
For sure! I have never had as much fun in wow since Vanilla and TBC as now with Season of Discovery. It has made me fall in love with just messing around and having fun in an mmo again! Becouse I dont have to get to that elusive lvl 60 as fast as possible. It is great work from the SOD team! They are legends

But when 1 whale outbits 10-1000 of the average player on these types of games, the games cater to them and the average player can't do shit about it. Even cata wasn't this bad to destroying what WoW used to be. So what happens? We stop playing the game, and nothing changes. Blizzard has their addicts and whales and we lose a game we once liked. One of my greatest memories playing WoW was when I first started in Legion and I was watching and listening to your videos in the background while I was getting flamed in a dungeon. It's always a joy to see when you upload again Mad ❤

My friend and I joined Season of Discovery pretty late. He hasn't played WoW since Warlords, and never had the opportunity to play the re-released Classic. This has been a really fun time in my WoW journey because he and I are on even ground and really exploring the world together for the first time. I play retail and have been since BC, but this has just been a ton of fun. We're actually working on one of his runes as phase two launches.. the warlock meta rune! It's great to go all over the world and really feel like we're progressing with each quest. Classic isn't for everyone, but if you're not sure if you want to play or not, give it a shot! We've had a ton of fun just leveling and collecting runes, and we haven't stepped foot into the raid. Thanks for the video, MadSeason! Great as always :)
I played SoD last month for about a week, got my runes and did some dungeons. After getting to 22 I just stopped playing. The main negative of the version for me is that despite the name there's little to no discovery. As someone that played vanilla back in 2005 and got thru that content leveling alts several times in the following years, the only fresh things for me were the runes. To experience all of them it would require making multiple alts and walking around the world with each one of them for hours and hours and that makes me exhausted just thinking about it. The only other "new" things are getting oneshotted in Ashenvale and the revamped instances; personally I don't particularly care about BFD and surely I'm not going to waste my nights babysitting people that quit WoW after wiping twice at Valiona HC in Gnomeregan. It's less of a love letter to old players and more of a necessity to keep geriatric ward patients paying the sub.
Good vid, welcome back! I think you got it spot on. I love the scaling level caps. They offer brand new endgame with stuff we already have, they prolong (in a good way) the journey, and it's just really fun to see your class evolve from phase to phase. The bot trains would be really easy to autoban if Blizzard wanted to. The game runs on their servers, they know if 10 bots are running in a row over and over again. Blizzard knows.
Yep, it's all about money, a bot account is still a paying account - so long as regular people keep playing on servers with bots, Blizzard will do nothing :P "Why did you cancel your subscription? - Too many bots." If a few hundred players do that, no biggie, if tens of thousands say that, it IS going to matter. Ofc problem also is a new bot account can just be remade, but if people stop buying gold, eventually it will not be profitable. That or the server dies out. It’s trivial to not have a bit behave that way… I have seen some rather complex bots than act pretty normal but are just doing weird things for too long.
You want to ban someone with 15 accounts because someone with one account is upset??!! But I had 3 (no botting at classic launch) using isboxer but they banned that but not the bots go figure.

In 2019 i was lucky enough to have a group of friends who all had played WoW, but none had played vanilla. i dragged them from pillar to post in that game showing them every cool nook and cranny i could possibly think of. we 4-manned all the content up to LBRS. I'm so glad that i got to enjoy an untainted run with friends through one of my favourite games. I'm not sure I could do it again and with how things changed only mere months after classic dropped. it was quite a serendipitous turn of fate that we all had free time at just the right time and we all worked similar hours. love your videos man

One way to combat bots is for both factions to work together in their extermination. When found in contested territory, just inv the other faction over for free honor :) if I remember correctly, Thor of Pirate Media, being an ex Blizz employee said they were purging bots once every few months never in the same day of the month or at the same hour so as to not let the users of bots predict their moves!

Blizzard Customer Service takes TWO DAYS to get back with you and they ALWAYS cut and paste responses which are ALWAYS that they CANT HELP YOU or there is no way to do what you ask, which is a LIE.
I had my early excitable wow phase, then a handful of 'coming back' phases, then a few nostalgic reunion phases. At this point, the idea of coming back again makes me ill. No matter how many times the new Blizz tries to change it up, they are not recreating the gold they used to have
That's why I always wondered why MadSeason did the high marshal grind in Classic. To make himself so sick and burnt out of the game he would never come back. Almost worked too.
I've had a similar story with Trading post. When it was first announced - I was legit warning everyone they would absolutely monetize it and then crank up the cost of items to manipulate players into buying more of the trading post tokens. I was mass reported for being suicidal. PM'd that I'm just an idiot that doesn't know how the world works etc... Nearly a year later and blizzard has shoved their foot in the door SEVERAL times to monetize the trading post. They've release the currency for trading post in bundles with items. They've also dramatically increased the price - trying to force everyone into a deficit. This is how blizzard does it - they normalise something (being in a deficit) and then try to swoop in and "Fix" the problem. Edit: The more I interact with the WoW Community re: Predatory bussiness practices - the more i'm convinced that WoW players have some form of stockholm syndrome.
This is my Blizzard experience (27 btw) When I was really young, I can't even tell you how old, maybe 6 - 8, my stepdad had a decent computer that could play modern games, and he would show me the cool stuff you could do in games, and would let me watch him and even play (he let me grind low level mobs I realise now lmao) One day he came home and was really excited, he bought a copy of Diablo, hadn't heard about it until a few days before that. He booted it up and let me watch him play and dude it was an experience. I shit myself vicariously through him as he entered the slaughteroom of The Butcher. I ran away when he screamed 'FRESSHHH MEEEATT' Core memory, Butcher still scares me Anyways, he left and I got a computer and started playing WoW on a free trial during I think the end of Classic, and I tell you, that experience was magical. Every other online game I tried at the time was like Solitaire compared to this huge immersive, role playing fantasy crack. I was HOOKED on day one dude I was HOOKED. It was an addiction at first level up. That ding was just 🤌😩👌 learning skills manually after levels, seeing myself grow and having other people (in game) around me that actually cared about this game like myself... It was truly magical. I played all the way up until the Beginning of WoD... at that point, the big brains at Blizz were already trying to monetise the bollocks out of the game in any way it could. It became pay to win, instead of just, hey, here's some awesome upgrades and additions we've made, but you've gotta play the game to get them, have fun and go explore! Now it's a shakedown at every turn for your fucking pennies. They no longer rely on creating a magical enthralling game, instead it's just how can we make the money go brrrrrr. And if you're gonna say "well that's the purpose of a company to make money durrr duururu" yeah I know fuckhead, but if you don't make a fun fucking game, why would I waste my time playing your corpo uninspired femboy bullshit? JUST MAKE GAMES FUN AGAIN, ITS NOT HARD If it seems like I'm being dramatic, well maybe I am. But that feeling to me is real, it's the only MMO that truly made me feel anything. Truly gaey I know Tldr? Make good games, create core gamer memories, gamer spends time and money on future games, gamer loves company and company creates innovative transparent games if not consumed by greed.

Great video dude was great to have a review from you about this, I am a bit unsure about joining SOD and hearing your opinion on this is very valued within this community. I see the issues that they could not resolve the bots and it becomes a literal hellscape and I really hope they don't try put micro-transactions into it. My hope it is becomes like how I imagine a Wow but on a different time progression that indicates the future which well it sort of has already with the Shadow Priest but adds on content like they intended during development like Hyjal, Kul'tiras, Dragon Isles with the lovecraft like temple and even the Emerald dream. Half looking forward to see what they do. Great video
SoD was fun in the start, but then it quickly became just retail. All dangers of the world dissapaired because the new abilitys are just raw new power infused at no cost, while the world remains the same as it was. Knowing it will only keep increasing, i imagine this is just a sneaky way for Blizzard to recruiting to retail saying "See, we told you that you love retail instead of classic".
Classic was always just an advertisement for retail and to bring old players back. They never invest more than the bare minimum to keep it going, even sabotaging it with retail's expansion releases at same time as major classic content patches.

I had my early excitable wow phase, then a handful of 'coming back' phases, then a few nostalgic reunion phases.
At this point, the idea of coming back again makes me ill. No matter how many times the new Blizz tries to change it up, they are not recreating the gold they used to have
That's why I always wondered why MadSeason did the high marshal grind in Classic. To make himself so sick and burnt out of the game he would never come back. Almost worked too.
I've had a similar story with Trading post.
When it was first announced - I was legit warning everyone they would absolutely monetize it and then crank up the cost of items to manipulate players into buying more of the trading post tokens.
I was mass reported for being suicidal. PM'd that I'm just an idiot that doesn't know how the world works etc...
Nearly a year later and blizzard has shoved their foot in the door SEVERAL times to monetize the trading post.
They've release the currency for trading post in bundles with items.
They've also dramatically increased the price - trying to force everyone into a deficit.
This is how blizzard does it - they normalise something (being in a deficit) and then try to swoop in and "Fix" the problem.
Edit: The more I interact with the WoW Community re: Predatory bussiness practices - the more i'm convinced that WoW players have some form of stockholm syndrome.

This is my Blizzard experience (27 btw)
When I was really young, I can't even tell you how old, maybe 6 - 8, my stepdad had a decent computer that could play modern games, and he would show me the cool stuff you could do in games, and would let me watch him and even play (he let me grind low level mobs I realise now lmao)
One day he came home and was really excited, he bought a copy of Diablo, hadn't heard about it until a few days before that. He booted it up and let me watch him play and dude it was an experience. I shit myself vicariously through him as he entered the slaughteroom of The Butcher. I ran away when he screamed 'FRESSHHH MEEEATT' Core memory, Butcher still scares me
Anyways, he left and I got a computer and started playing WoW on a free trial during I think the end of Classic, and I tell you, that experience was magical. Every other online game I tried at the time was like Solitaire compared to this huge immersive, role playing fantasy crack. I was HOOKED on day one dude I was HOOKED. It was an addiction at first level up. That ding was just 🤌😩👌 learning skills manually after levels, seeing myself grow and having other people (in game) around me that actually cared about this game like myself... It was truly magical. I played all the way up until the Beginning of WoD... at that point, the big brains at Blizz were already trying to monetise the bollocks out of the game in any way it could. It became pay to win, instead of just, hey, here's some awesome upgrades and additions we've made, but you've gotta play the game to get them, have fun and go explore! Now it's a shakedown at every turn for your fucking pennies. They no longer rely on creating a magical enthralling game, instead it's just how can we make the money go brrrrrr. And if you're gonna say "well that's the purpose of a company to make money durrr duururu" yeah I know fuckhead, but if you don't make a fun fucking game, why would I waste my time playing your corpo uninspired femboy bullshit? JUST MAKE GAMES FUN AGAIN, ITS NOT HARD
If it seems like I'm being dramatic, well maybe I am. But that feeling to me is real, it's the only MMO that truly made me feel anything. Truly gaey I know
Tldr? Make good games, create core gamer memories, gamer spends time and money on future games, gamer loves company and company creates innovative transparent games if not consumed by greed.
Blizzard is not the same company you used to love. It's OK to move on or just play Classic like all the other old men here.

Great video dude was great to have a review from you about this, I am a bit unsure about joining SOD and hearing your opinion on this is very valued within this community. I see the issues that they could not resolve the bots and it becomes a literal hellscape and I really hope they don't try put micro-transactions into it. My hope it is becomes like how I imagine a Wow but on a different time progression that indicates the future which well it sort of has already with the Shadow Priest but adds on content like they intended during development like Hyjal, Kul'tiras, Dragon Isles with the lovecraft like temple and even the Emerald dream. Half looking forward to see what they do. Great video

SoD was fun in the start, but then it quickly became just retail. All dangers of the world dissapaired because the new abilitys are just raw new power infused at no cost, while the world remains the same as it was. Knowing it will only keep increasing, i imagine this is just a sneaky way for Blizzard to recruiting to retail saying "See, we told you that you love retail instead of classic".
Classic was always just an advertisement for retail and to bring old players back. They never invest more than the bare minimum to keep it going, even sabotaging it with retail's expansion releases at same time as major classic content patches.
