Purity of expression does not exist often.. but with this band it's almost commonplace. Talent beyond talent. Definitely anxiously waiting to see them at Union Transfer on the 11th!
Dont get me wrong ..i love other bands but la dispute really stands out! Their sound is soooo different .. You can here the emotion and sadness in his voice instead of anger.. This taught me so much. They are a big influence on my life
"You've opened a window but have broken the glass" Still one of my favorites, of the album. I just love how every song takes on two perspectives, the literal version, which is poetic and not actually literal but a story told, and the nonliteral version where you realize the whole thing is a metaphors for real life experiences (certain lines invoking thoughts of the deeper meaning like this is literally an analogy for human emotion) lines like in the ending " 'leave' said the girl to her lover 'I've given in, if love was a bridge we built it wrong' curb your angers still your fists she'll never come back never come back she never will" this was deeper than words can express, yet La Dispute did exactly that, except with a whole band too haha
lololol I was remarking on Eli's 'discovery' - that was what I meant. I was real late finding this band too, I just don't have a pissant-worldview that I demonstrate in pootube comments. bless you though, your irony is valid
Crywank is for when im upset about myself and La Dispute is for when someone I know is going through it and I dont know what to do so i sit idly by in panic while i sicken myself with worry and then get furious at myself for all my complaining when i have never felt pain
King Park is my favorite song of all time but I can never get anyone to listen to the whole thing with me because it's 7 minutes long and they get impatient
My favourite la dispute songs are such small hands, us in unison, and fall down and never get back again, woman reading, nine, and... I should stop but I like so many
My girl friend showed me La Dispute and we actually saw them live with circa survive at the house of blues. I’ve never looked up their lyrics before though and I’m so glad I did. This is amazing
Okay I think I finally figured out what the song means. The king is an almighty power that didn't support their love (reference to "four" by la dispute) so he flooded the river. The river flooding represents this hatred and all these negative feelings. This bridge, however, was their love. Their love shielded them from this negativity. But the princess says "I've given in ... If love is a bridge, then we built it wrong" showing that their love wasn't enough to save her and it wasn't good enough. FEELS.
I love the uniqueness of this band, most post-hardcore or whatever sounds really similar, but this is different They actually remind me of a post-hardcore version of woods of ypres...
Up, my lady, pack your things This place is not your home, nor was it ever Sever every tie Tonight we ride, tonight we ride Tonight we ride And how we've trembled at the way that time assembles Little fires of desire in the tundra of our skin So, do yourself a little favor, savor every time you waver For that shaking in my voice was only slightly feigned chagrin Tonight we ride Tonight we ride Lover, uncover I know it's warm beneath your sheets and there is ice along the streets but listen Lover, we will recover But we've no time to waste with meddling in affairs We've locked so tightly in our dreams We are not clean, we are not pure We will not rest until we're sure So rob your pretty little eyes of sleep's disguise I'm at your bedside with a bucket full of lies So clear your ears and listen Up, my lady, pack your things This place is not your home And I know what is And to the glorious past You've opened my window but broken the glass And I beseech thee, shed thy beauty For as a child leaves the womb and learns the cold You have taught us peril in the present And you will bring us peril in our surely soon to be Unless The river's not flooded this time Oh, precious distance Oh, precious pain, you've given me a name And etched it in the stones of the river bank Oh, precious distance Oh, precious pain, you've given us a name You've given us a name "Rise," said the king to the river "Never let up No, bring us a flood and bring it hard" "Breathe," said the Wind to the water "Never give in No, build us a bridge And build it strong and angry. Let it still the king's decrees . Oh, you must contemplate the current, boy And command that coward cease" The boy breathes for his love says, "I wait" His love says, "I wait" She's shouting out, "I will come back Yes, I will come back And I will come I have lived my life so uncomfortably Darling, come for me, come for me" "Rise," said the boy to his lover "Darling, get up I've brought you my love And brought it far" "Leave", said the girl to her lover "I've given in If love is a bridge, we built it wrong " Curb your anger Still your fists She will never come back She'll never come back She'll never come Never come back Never come back She'll never come
@@shilocutler214 Wow, I made this comment almost a year ago. But Really I love the song. BUT the speech pattern/tempo and the way he yells, just reminds me of Mr.Crocker Screaming "FAIRIES!!" Nothing against the singer whatsoever.. it's just the vibe I get from the song lol
can relate. my gf from sophomore year of HS listened to fallout boy, sleepin with sirens, bmth, etc and one of the main sources of tension between us was that whenever we'd drive anywhere in her jeep she had to control the aux and i fucking HATED her music taste. i got into la dispute heavily after we broke up that winter because it was like 10000x better than her music but the vibes still reminded me of her. kind of a weird revenge lol but it helped me get over it.
Fritz On A Ritz my ex showed me la dispute and I didnt like them honestly but after we broke up I realized what the songs were about and ive loved them ever. They've helped through a lot.
@blablabl12 Sorry for the wait, didn't know I had comments. Anyway, the whole video is done with Windows Movie Maker, and I found an audio/video enhancer that can bring it up to 720p.
His voice. His scream. It's addicting to your ears. He just shows so much emotion. All of La Dispute's songs are poetry in it's purest form.
funny you say that, because he was a poet before he was a singer
@jirokyouko Woah, really?
Also hey. 11 years and you found me. Very nice.
@@cody42693 yeah, and wow i hadn't even realized this was posted 11 years ago lmao
@jirokyouko I was pretty surprised you commented on it too. I had totally forgot I even made this comment. Made me revisit this song, though.
Hi, it's 2022 and this is still one of the greatest examples of songwriting..ever. It's an absolute masterpiece.
Every now and then I come back to La Dispute and remember there is some PROPER good music out there, and this band is good for SO MANY reasons.
Can't agree more. This band man. I've never heard an equal.
I wish I could give the comment more than one like
Had to ruin that 69th like sorry
2024 andi still feel this comment is true
Purity of expression does not exist often.. but with this band it's almost commonplace. Talent beyond talent. Definitely anxiously waiting to see them at Union Transfer on the 11th!

How was it? Lol

Ikr! They kinda taught me how to appreciate the lyrics instead of the actual sound
@@kelseygautier6451 same. But I also love Jordan's voice now
It's a really "messy" sound that when I first discovered this band at age 12 I couldn't get into, but now 6 years later I find myself in love with it
"You've opened a window but have broken the glass"

Do you ever discover music and you just can't... cause it's too perfect and it has never been in your life and you regret that? Yeah, that's me now
a hipster douche five years behind the curve?
ya because keeping up with trends and only listening to whats "in right now" is what music is all about.
you're a cool guy
lololol I was remarking on Eli's 'discovery' - that was what I meant. I was real late finding this band too, I just don't have a pissant-worldview that I demonstrate in pootube comments. bless you though, your irony is valid
Buck While someone finds a band they absolutely love and expresses that
Proceeds to criticize their sharing of a pissant worldview
Interesting
i really like it how you hear there is a lot of emotions in his voice
Perfect voice
Different perspectives too
I agree
They way they set up the guitar solo is just beautiful. By the time it hits you’re so ready for it
This dude has good song writing skills. Just started listening to La Dispute the other day and I must say I'm digging it a lot.
Crywank is for when im upset about myself and La Dispute is for when someone I know is going through it and I dont know what to do so i sit idly by in panic while i sicken myself with worry and then get furious at myself for all my complaining when i have never felt pain
Thanks drew gooden 👌

I'm pretty sure This, "King Park" and "Bury Your Flame" are my Favourite La Dispute songs.
Jay Monroe i always get sad at the last part of king part

Brilliant brilliant brilliant. I miss these dudes. Pray for our great state of Michigan
This was the first song I ever heard from this band and it still gives me goosebumps

Jacob B nah its based on a story about a princess and a shephard, listen to the "song" four by them
They're coming to Houston and I'm really hoping they play this and damaged goods. Can't wait though.

Damn, new ringtone.
I saw them today and they played this song and I was so happy
The goosebumps!!
I love his voice.
Love this song!! AMAZING band. :D
TONIGHT WE RIDE!!!!
+James Wolff indeed. we ride. tonite.
Love this song :3
Nothing in post hardcore will hit me as hard as "I have lived my life so uncomfortably, darling come for me, comfort me" lol
Really? This is one of my absolute favorites by them :3
I love the uniqueness of this band, most post-hardcore or whatever sounds really similar, but this is different

This is so relaxing
You guys are so God damn good. Everything about this song is perfect.
these riffs are sick !
i think i have a new favourite band. o:
hi danny
She'll never come back!
If love was a bridge we built it wrong.
My friend Celina sent me here😁
Damnit this band is good
drew gooden
I violently break my own heart when I listen to this song.
Listen to "Four" in the album Hear, Here, before this song.
+Sebastian Herron omg thanks for saying that.. i now understand what he means by "the river's not flooded this time"
Love this song
no crostruimos un puente mal, construimos una barca y fabricamos una isla en la cual disfrutar el río. 🌟
2018 some people never change
Dying over here from this...just so good
balance & composure !
:') LOVE LA DISPUTE
I'm here because of Drew Gooden
the legend of Tanabata it's so sad
This is the first time I really liked the sound of a snare drum withought the snares tightened.
Up, my lady, pack your things
This place is not your home, nor was it ever
Sever every tie
Tonight we ride, tonight we ride
Tonight we ride
And how we've trembled at the way that time assembles
Little fires of desire in the tundra of our skin
So, do yourself a little favor, savor every time you waver
For that shaking in my voice was only slightly feigned chagrin
Tonight we ride
Tonight we ride
Lover, uncover
I know it's warm beneath your sheets and there is ice along the streets but listen
Lover, we will recover
But we've no time to waste with meddling in affairs
We've locked so tightly in our dreams
We are not clean, we are not pure
We will not rest until we're sure
So rob your pretty little eyes of sleep's disguise
I'm at your bedside with a bucket full of lies
So clear your ears and listen
Up, my lady, pack your things
This place is not your home
And I know what is
And to the glorious past
You've opened my window but broken the glass
And I beseech thee, shed thy beauty
For as a child leaves the womb and learns the cold
You have taught us peril in the present
And you will bring us peril in our surely soon to be
Unless
The river's not flooded this time
Oh, precious distance
Oh, precious pain, you've given me a name
And etched it in the stones of the river bank
Oh, precious distance
Oh, precious pain, you've given us a name
You've given us a name
"Rise," said the king to the river
"Never let up
No, bring us a flood and bring it hard"
"Breathe," said the Wind to the water
"Never give in
No, build us a bridge
And build it strong and angry.
Let it still the king's decrees
.
Oh, you must contemplate the current, boy
And command that coward cease"
The boy breathes for his love says, "I wait"
His love says, "I wait"
She's shouting out, "I will come back
Yes, I will come back
And I will come
I have lived my life so uncomfortably
Darling, come for me, come for me"
"Rise," said the boy to his lover
"Darling, get up
I've brought you my love
And brought it far"
"Leave", said the girl to her lover
"I've given in
If love is a bridge, we built it wrong
"
Curb your anger
Still your fists
She will never come back
She'll never come back
She'll never come
Never come back
Never come back
She'll never come
