- In the vast expanse of Judy Garlands career ... 45 years of musical & entertainment history, an astounding body of work ... there are some things that seem to get 'lost' or 'unnoticed'.
Judy is preeminently remembered for her role as Dorothy in the 'Wizard Of Oz' ... &, there are certain songs that will always be associated with her ... 'Over The Rainbow', 'The Trolley Song', 'The Man That Got Away' ... just to name a few.
But there's far more to Judy Garland ...
The song 'Nobody', performed by Judy in 'Strike Up The Band' ... nobody seems to remember, or pay attention to. Here is a song that seems to have been forgotten.
Lets remember ...
Words and music by Roger Edens.

All the big professors state
That everything should have a mate
Birds and Bees and Flowers and Trees
All have romantic tendencies
So far I have missed the he
That fate decreed was meant for me
I'm just living in a lull
And I'll confess it's mighty dull
Romeo had Juliet and Louis XVI had Antionette
But I ain't got nobody and nobody's got me
Pelleas had Melisande and Isabella had Ferdinand
But I ain't got nobody and nobody's got me
Welch Grape Juice has Irene Rich
Minneapolis has St Paul
Abercrombie has his Fitch
But here I am crying and sitting and sighing
With no one at all
Hans had Gretel by his side and Dr Jekyl had Mr Hyde
But I ain't got nobody and nobody's got me
Lancelot had fair Elaine and Mr Lunt has Ms Lynn Fontaine
But I ain't got nobody and nobody's got me
Frederic Chopin had George Sand and Alexander had his Ragtime Band
But I ain't got nobody and nobody's got me
Barbasol has Singin' Sam
Metro-Goldwyn has Mayer
Mary has her little lamb
But here I am hoping and mumbling and moping
With no one to care
Gobs have sweethearts on the wharves
And even Snow White had seven dwarves
But I ain't got nobody and nobody's got me
Nobody - nobody's got me

How on earth could they say she wasn't pretty enough? I think she's gorgeous!
MelissaVlogsAboutThis She didn't become a beauty into adulthood but she was cute here.
Those eyes! They just pull you in.
+MrHoppers002 MGM's standards of beauty were a shade dictatorial.
+MrHoppers002 Cool it. In the first place, I was talking about their standards of beauty, not anything else. In the second place, they didn't "hook" Judy on anything, and she never used cocaine in her life.
@@ryangregorakos5040 And even there you're not talking about what is now called "meth," which is far more dangerous.
Why the people say that she is ugly? She's pretty and...What eyes!
Lealonna people are stupid
i think they are idiots and stupid
Because they have Ugly brain , if they have
Nobody ever said she was ugly. She just didn't fit the narrow standard of film-star beauty of that period of time.
My Gawd she was so adorable
Allison Seamark I like her later, more MATURE voice, better.
Allison Seamark YES. THE BEST EVER.
I'm altogether agree with you! Love you Judy, be well forever...
If I had a wish, I wish I could travel back the time, to see personally Judy and to tell her I really love her.
Very beautiful face with a very beautiful voice.
The only ONE JUDY GARLAND❤️❤️❤️
Mike Salamanes totally agree
I just wont to hug her mickey and shirly
I'm here with you ! Pinoy ka yata
Honesty i want to hug her and tell her she's beautiful..
That's something you and I have in common
76 years ago. older than most of our parents. our modern world is missing something.
I hope you have the good fortune of hearing Janelle Lutz in person sometime. Janelle Lutz does a superb impersonation of Judy Garland. There are people like Ms. Lutz keeping the tradition alive.
It sure is!
It lacks intelligence, integrity and integration.. The three I s 🏃🏃🏃💡💡👩👩🌙
She makes the best facial expressions! She can be so adorable and funny at the same time.
The two often go together. 🙂
This is what made me fall in love with Judy ~!
Remember, No homo
Wizard of oz is what made me love her
No matter what song she's singing, I'm always drawn to her lips. They're perfect!
What a performer, She put her heart in every song that she sang. Never knew that Judy Garland was such a perfectionist until checking out her style from a young lady throughout her career. Thanks to RUclips!!!!
She could really pull off that 'sad sack' bit so convincingly. She had the most expressive eyes. They reflected every mood. You could spend a decade at The Actor's Studio or Juilliard, but either you got it or you don't. Like Bogie said to her once, "You have more talent than anybody in this goddamned town."
Judy Garland is the definition of doe-eyed. She has some of the most beautiful, big brown eyes I’ve ever seen, she’s just so adorable
". . .and Dr. Jekyll had Mr. Hyde!". LMAO! The wit these classic songwriters had. How well she acts this song! Her voice is so fabulous that her acting of the lyrics can be overlooked. 🎙️
Lol 😂
This is one of my favorite numbers she sang in her early/post Oz MGM period. Roger wrote terrifically personalized numbers for her(and others) because he knew the woman. And how beautiful is this girl, who didn't think she was beautiful. I know a lot of people who, to me, are stunningly gorgeous(HELLOz?!) but got some really f-d up early messaging....Ttat face, with that voice, to me, at thjs moment in time for her, is absolutely perfect and so right.
Man she wasnt only a beautiful singer but also had a edge.PEACHES AND CREAM WITH A DASH OF SPICE...so to speak.
I ain't got nothing either, Judy.
When I hear Judy sing, it feels like it's Christmas. 🎄🎄🎄⛄⛄🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🙌🙌🏦🏦🏦🎄🎄
Terrific song. Typical wonderful Garland treatment.
I think she looks beautiful here and she has one of the most powerful voices.
3:38 Even snow white had 7 dwarf's.... that look. lololol.. :)
What a perfect timing as I scroll I read it the same time she said it cool
😁😁😁😁😁😁😂😂😂😂👩🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶
Rofl. "Arent they wonderful?" "Who?" "Anythony and-" "YES, yes." She gives me all over my body every time she sings. What an angel.
Everybody today are missing out on how great these songs were back in those old days
She was so very cute and sweet in those years! I love how she didn’t over-sing in these years. Her acting in this so natural!
Never heard that song before sung by Miss Judy! Beautiful.
Gosh I love how at 2:10 you can hear the "Our love affair" motif playing in the transition! such smoothness, so nice!
This number lasts two hundred and fifty seven seconds, and every second of it is absolutely flawless. Kudos to everyone involved in making it, including Miss Gumm of course, and thanks for posting it.
She was so cute.
This is a treasure! I've been around a long time, and been a Judy fan for a VERY long time, but I had never heard this song before. It's charming, and the lyrics are SO contemporary (for 1940, that is). Totally a Roger Edens creation, and totally FOR Judy.
What a Beautiful GIRL !
JUST LOVE JUDY GARLAND'S unpretentious style of singing with every bit' of sweet emotion... you can always feel LOVE ooozing out of every talented bone in her body!!.....xxoo LOVE YOU JUDY !!
A person with this talent is truly beautiful. God Judy was talented.
I love her beautiful singing voice.
So beautiful!! I love you Judy!!!
This made me cry. ;D
ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ why
18 and sweet as can be.
This is such a beautiful song with a beautiful melody. I love Judy. It's so sad she's not with us still.
Thank you RUclips, & the person to provide this, THANK YOU!
Also, thank you for posting this, I would never have found it otherwise and now it's my favorite thing she's ever sung.
Same here!
So absolutely stunning. I've been going through her performances all night and this is my very favorite. (:
Gorgeous girl.
If I only had this library...
Ah! That voice! I💖Judy!
Notice the MGM line. Nice Louis, nice move.
Hace 80 años de ésta canción...y para mi es tan actual..me encanta! amo la voz de la maravillosa Judy!! forever Mss. Garland! desde México...
"Even Snow White has seven dwarfs" lol
😂
It's almost like she was referring to the Walt Disney version of Snow White
Yes! I remember it and have it!
My Girl!
Huge Judy fan. Thanks for sharing this clip. ... her ability to caress a ballad with her voice, make it her own, and share it is demonstrated here. Her phenomenal voice is equaled only by her amazing acting skills...and "ugly duckling"...I think not! Very pretty...those big brown eyes! And a song penned by her friend Roger Edens...the Jekyll and Hyde line is high-larious!
wtf happand to this generation..real beautiful women like judy and audrey hepburn are gone...now theres megan fox whos supposed to be beautiful..its sad.
so adoreable!! and what a voice at that age! love U girl!!!
Awesome young lady
So much talent and absolutely adorable to look at!!
Ohh Judy how I adore you.
once you get on the judy train its addicting.... her and whitney houston....
What a classic...
From "Strike Up The Band", IMHO the best of the back yard musicals with Mickey/Judy!!
3:09 - 3:13: The whole song is wonderful but this part makes me laugh so hard. God, what a talent she was. Sorry, is. She's eternal!
I have been reading about Roger Edens. Thank you for sharing this song he wrote for Judy to sing so well in the movies...
Amazing how they managed to keep those under wraps for The Wizard of Oz!
Charming performance - and though a rather simple pop theme and melody, I can't imagine anything as lyrically complex and allusive coming out today, much less succeeding.
Michael Costa you're so correct. But what a shame people today can't "get" complex lyrics like these (or those of Ira or Cole). This song is infinitely clever, custom fit for Judy by Roger Edens and ranks up there with the Cole Porter and Ira/George Gershwin "clever" songs, in my opinion.
There are only a couple of references that I don’t get without looking up, but I’m a senior. Surely children today still learn about Ferdinand and Isabella?
This was a classy time
I love her
amazing, and she did it all without Autotune.
Great poetry to music.
great job...and I love how the big doors close by themselves at the end :)
stunning
Thank you appreciate
great song
I love judy garland so much and I love this film it's one of my favorite judy garland and mickey Rooney film❤️
OMG - so totally charming! You're right - I've never heard of it.

Really enjoyed this bit!
Thanks so much for this, Michele!

I just love you so much.
Vibrations in her voice
Beutiful ^.^
For me, it's called nostalgia
my beloved natal where I used to belong
We love all love you Julie.
The scram Juliette sent me. This was hilarious and beautiful
How on Earth could such a magnetically gorgeous girl have attracted such dismissive, even withering criticism of her looks? This, along with the rest of how she was mishandled by the people who should have nurtured her, remains one of studio-era Hollywood’s most aggravating puzzles.
I love her evr since wizards of oz
New one for me.....love it, thanks! KEITH
So apt at this time...
My only true love
@Reige17: Yes. You've probably looked her up on your own by now, but that is Judy Garland, who played Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz. It's too bad that's about all she's known for, when she was known as "The World's Greatest Live Entertainer" throughout most her life.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh my gosh, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde reference!!
Damn gurl you go.
