Join along on this extreme mountain exploration expedition up into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness area. In this video I climb high atop Pinyon Peak Lookout with my 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia for an overnight campout in the region near Stanley Idaho. This road to Pinyon Peak is considered one of the most rugged roads in all of Idaho. I also explore some mountain biking and hot springs in the surrounding area.

Hello Chad. Grandma Iris here. My grandfather built roads in the Pennsylvania Poconos. He had a wooden leg and a pin holding the other together. On two separate occasions the steam roller lost control & ran over his legs. As you can imagine-it was an extremely dangerous job. Thank you for taking us places that most of us will never see. I'd never want to leave those hot springs and when I saw those dogs inside the bar, I'd never want to leave Stanley, ID. The older I get the more I crave simple living and small town life. Under a 100 pop. sounds perfect.
These tracking shots with the drone are just epic. Being a huge Kubrick fan, I can't help comparing them with the opening sequence from 'The Shining' - incidentally, Kubrick had 2 helicopter crews and a few million dollars but if he were alive today, I reckon he'd be impressed. Awesome work dude.

Thats just how this planet works. When you have alot of overgrowth you end up with deadfall, and with both combined in a dry climate all you need is 1 lightning strike to set it off

Chad, as soon as I saw the okra in the bag, that sold me on the Alpineaire meals. I keep Mountain House and 4Patriots Only meals in my overland camping kit. The Jetboil is a modern marvel. For simple overnighters I take leftovers and pack them into bento boxes...eating them cold as I usually stealth camp in a nearby forest that I park off property then hike into it. Dude, your cajones must be bigger than your heart. Ten thousand feet, super rough road, and two-wheel drive?! That ain't computing! I've driven to the top of Haleakala Crater at 10,000+ feet but on paved road to watch sun rises. My Jeep SUV with 4X4 option would be a huge question mark to make it up that high and your ground clearance seems to be greater as well. I sat in awe as you operated your drone while driving up the mountain. Man, I know that feeling as you stand up at the very mountain's top and take in that deep breath. While stationed in Europe I backpacked and skied in the Alps. For so many of us who are in the "golden years" and watch your videos it reminds us of our youth and the craziness we enjoyed. Thank you, Chad. Post note: VW should consider using this video in an ad.

I remember how eerie forests could look in dark arctic snowy nights with the borealis flickering and dancing over the sky, iluminating the landscape. I bet those burned out woods could look scary in a horror movie - cabin fever situation or something:))

Beautiful photography, excellent production, and over time watching your channel, I've come to love your van.
