Why iPhones Still Have A Notch

- Most Android flagships have eliminated the notch, using less-intrusive hole-punch camera designs instead. But Apple's iPhone still has one, even four years after its debut in 2017. And I’ll explain why right now.
Notch itself doesn’t bother me, but not showing the battery percentage does.
it’s never been a problem for me just scroll down and plus no one lets it get really near the red after all it’s just the battery u just need a general idea of it
@@jamesle9851 iPhone just suck it's a complicated os says to be simple but completely trash and laggy with slow ui

Yet you buy from Apple every year
@@isdel1621 ? what the fuck are you even saying, iphone has the smoothest ui on an iphone, even the 60hz displays seem smoother than most cheap 120hz displays due to smooth animations, and i've never seen a flagship iphone lag before
the notch is now what the home button used to be, a recognisable design element. I wonder what they will do next because an all screen phone will just look like any other phone.
I kinda hope they keep the notch. If they can find a way to make it smaller, maybe combine some sensors in order to make room, I like the notch, it just needs to be a small size, no teardrop. Keep the notch.
@@thatcarguydom266 i know right? To me i think that it gives the phone some style, it looks good 👏👏
Literally. They could’ve so easily done the fingerprint reader power button + hole punch camera design but didn’t cause that would make iPhones stand out less.
Yeah . It's Iconic but kinda annoying
who cares about the looks we care about functionality
Basically it contains important sensors and features for Face ID
That is true, but the Huawei P40 Pro has 3D Face Unlock too and it takes up way less space, but you could argue that Apple just wouldn't want such a big cutout and just keep the notch because it is recognizable
I’d be ok with the top “ears” being digitally permanently blacked out to make a squared off top.
Yes
guys, apple has the money to create a way for removing the notch.
but what's next?
they are trying to squeeze out every possible dollar from the current notch design before revelling there next new big design change. Because whenever this new one comes out, gess what, people will buy it and wait for the newer design after, i gess, 50 years, lol.
Good Night Everyone :)
I don't mind if apple stick to the notch for the rest of the decade as long as it has touch Id in the screen.
Maybe another reason is that the iPhone should be recognizable. Earlier the Home Button was iconic, now it's the notch.
The notch doesn't bother me
@@Alex-yj9xl Yes, you probably are. The 13 makes the 12 look ANCIENT and the SE look prehistoric in comparison. Idk why people like the notch; face ID is awful with a mask and the fact that I lose parts of my video with it is annoying as hell...

Huawei was able to fit more tech in a tiny pill shaped hole punch
@@animatedreality9135 yeah
Not gonna lie, I hated the notch when it was first revealed on the iPhone X, but it's grown on me to the point where I've switched to iPhone from Android and I actually think it looks better than a hole-punch, sure it takes up more of the screen but it looks less out-of-place than a single random hole.
That's your opnion buddy
Same I hated the notch before getting the iPhone X… after I got it.. I don’t even notice the notch anymore unless it’s pointed out to me somehow plus my phone has always been on dark mode from the beginning of iPhones having dark mode and I always use dark wallpapers.
@@SupremeCyril the other technology is better tho the notch is an interruption I used the 11 for a year and for me personally it was really distracting

I have an S21 Ultra. The hole punch camera doesn't seem out of place at all. I barely notice it. The UI does a good job hiding it most of the time. And honestly, I can see people getting used to the notch too. But my issue with the notch is the absolutely ridiculous fact that there is apparently no room for a battery percentage icon on the status bar??? And even though the iPhone 13 has more space up there, they still didn't add it in! You'd think maybe Apple would let you pick if you want a % or regular battery icon, but nah, they just want to control how you use your phone in every aspect.
@@14moti Iirc, it was probably because of some stress-related reasons.
Dunno why don’t they add Touch ID back into the power button. That power button is huge. It’d make a ton of sense too since it’s used for Apple Pay anyways.
That’s a pretty good point.
And they have the Touch ID in iPad & MacBook anyways
Yeah , they can give side mounted Fingerprint sensor like iPad
i think they are still kinda in a 'testing' process on ipads to see whethere users like it or use it or not

Face ID: Power on and look at the screen, take down the facemask etc.
Touch ID: Power on and already unlocked. It’s just one thing less to worry about.
Personally I’m very much in favour of keeping the high security facial recognition that the iPhone has. Now that you’ve explained the notch has a very real and security purpose. My preference is to keep high security biometrics and the notch.
I used S20 and S21 after using XR. I could never use Samsung’s facial recognition due to its unsatisfactory performance and failure to recognise me more than half of the time. Always lived with fingerprint reader on Samsung. Now in masked world one may well say fingerprint ID is easy to use than Face ID but luckily I have Apple watch and Apple’s solution of unlocking iPhone with Apple watch is faster and more stable than Samsung’s fingerprint recognition too.
@@pearlsofwisdom101
I used an optical fingerprint scanner and it’s not perfect, occasionally you would have to re-position your finger so it can work, + the light flash from the scanner is blinding especially at night.

How were you even using the 4" SE until now? Even the Apple Watch is almost half its size lol.
@@Tom_Stevens617 Preferences differ from person to person. Just because you like bigger screen doesn't mean everyone should.
@Dice Yeah, but most forms of media accessible on phones today are designed to be for screens with taller aspect ratios. I'm pretty sure a lot of content is kinda messed up on the SE. For example, stuff that could fit in one line has to now awkwardly be fit in two lines. The 12 & 13 Mini are one-handed phone too but most content looks in place on them.
@@comrade_rahul_1 There's no reason not to want a bigger screen if it's accessible in a similar footprint.
I think there’s another reason : since Apple removed the home button, they needed to find a way to make the iPhone face recognizable and easy to be used as a "universal smartphone" logo, and currently the notch is the way they decided to do it since they found another way.
other android phone have a notch as well, apple isn't the only one using it.
Because Apple Wants To Be Apple.
That could be every video of apple explained
The ultrasonic sensor on the s21u is perfect, almost always works even with wet hands and you need your finger on your screen anyway. Also works in the dark or when wearing a mask
As far as I know its possible to use FaceId with masks by creating multiple „scans“ of your face with the mask partially on your face, I have to try this myself but if it truly works, I have to say that FaceId is still the best (at least for a lot of people)
It just seems like magic everytime I unlock my phone, but sure, implementing a good inscreen fingerprintscanner and therefore removing the notch will be appealing to a lot of people.
I personally like that its not just a square screen, but has some personality to it. In the 6 months that I have swapped to iPhone, I cannot remember a single time FaceId has not worked instantly even in absolute darkness, besides while wearing a mask but that might be solvable like I wrote at the beginning.
@@georgwagner4438 I think they haven't because apple is that company that takes security really seriously, with Touch ID, they had some weird electromagnetic sensors, so that even if you used the same person's finger and they were not alive, it would not work. Not sure if ultrasonic ones work the same way. But apple is that type of company tbh. They put 3D scans to make sure their face id is safe, they go ham to make sure everything works right.
This aged well.
Is 2023🤩 now they have dynamic Island

I actually don’t think their solution will be something as simple as doing an onscreen fingerprint scanner due to the fact that Face ID is vastly superior and much more secure than Touch ID. I believe they’ll have to take the time to do what they do and invent a better solution that keeps Face ID around without the notch.
First of all, it’s marketing tactic. They must’ve planned everything. If they put every single new technology in their next phone, they’ll ran out of idea for the next following phone.
Fact here. The less you see a technology, the better it is. When I use Face ID I just don’t have a password. When I had a Touch ID phone. I needed to pose my finger on a sensor. This remind me that I have a passcode
@@PotatoSoKawaii Um, you do realize that's got nothing to do with marketing tactics, right?
@@Stitch42 that’s a great point. Never really thought of it that way. For me personally, when my face is covered at work with a mask, the Apple Watch negates that same feeling of being locked out with a password since it allows you to unlock the phone through that back door. When I had the 7, my work gloves wouldn’t allow me to even utilize the Touch ID, rendering it completely useless, which would always expose my passwords to anyone paying attention.
Coming from someone who just had a iPhone 6 and se 2020 now with the 11 which is also my first iPhone ever with out bezels it’s a HUGE difference in screen size then I thought it would be, the notch is not a problem for me one bit lol
Bro it still has some big bezels, but it's definetly improved
Ngl but I like the iPhone notch, it looks timeless.
You’re not in the majority by any means but honestly I have to agree with you. It’s as iconic as the single home button was on the original iPhone and I actually like the appearance of it. Something about it looks so sleek and modern.
I don't mind the notch either, but I fail to see how it looks timeless. It'll look outdated when Apple comes out with their under-display tech.
It looks outdated to be sure.
@RUclips Nutzer I didn’t say that at all. If you see my comment, I said it is an iconic look AND I also happen to like the look of it. I separated the two out and stated that I do like the look of it personally even though I know that’s the unpopular opinion. I’m sure iPhone will find their way out of the notch eventually.
@RUclips Nutzer also you didn’t need to be rude. Just bc someone likes something you don’t doesn’t mean you need to shit on their opinion. We can all be a little nicer to each other.

To be honest, after using my iPhone X since the day it was release, I really don't find it that obstructing on the screen, I even like it since it is different from the competition on the market.
I'm pretty sure Steve Jobs will reject the notch and keep the home button, the true staple of OG iPhone.
it’s because apple’s motto is “think different” which means they want their products different from others.
but they weren't the first to use the notch, so what's different in that
Or use Google lens, oh sorry, 'Live Text' and 'Visual Look Up'
I don't want punchhole or notch. Keep space on the top like iPad and get the fullscreen.
But still, why do we have to have a more expensive technology like face ID and settle on having a notch if fingerprint scanner works fine and are secure? I don't understand why Apple can put a fingerprint scanner on ipod's power button but not in iPhone.

It's a marketing decision. Apple doesn't like blending in. Similar logic for the camera module design. It's inevitable. At some point iPhones will look like any Android.

i hope they don't remove the notch, i do like the way it looks it gives an iphone esc look, without it it would look like any other phone.
It finally died out
Bro, Huawei has 3d facial recognition and was able to fit it in a small pill shaped hole punch
Hey Greg! I honestly believe that Apple can fit the True Depth sensors in the top bezels.
The notch is the branding of iphone. You’ll get to notice samples of phones on ads if its android or iphone because of the notch.
The in screen finger print sensors are incredible. Sometimes way too accurate, and way too fast. I don't understand why FaceID is still a thing when you still need to swipe on the lock screen to access your phone just like how you still need a finger on the fingerprint sensor. To me, that eliminates the whole point of using FaceID when it's suppose to be seamless and takes you to the home screen instantly. With finger print sensors, you can place your finger on the sensor even when the screen is turned off, and unlock the phone instantly, to me that is a way faster and convenient.

I would be happy if they simply removed everything from the top, no notch, no punch hole, no front facing camera, replace face ID with touch ID (which at least works with facemasks). A phone isn’t a professional camera. I feel like the back camera is used less than the front camera. And by ‘everyone’, (let’s not be close minded because the front camera has multiple uses) the “pros” aren’t here to focus on the looks. Why get a phone if it’s not convenient? I like this. Though, I didn't know Apple used 3D recognition. So, as soon as I heard that, I knew it was considerably more secure than the 2D one. Also glad that they shrank it, but, I feel that the notch helps to distinguish the iPhone from the android phones.
Would love to see them do a folding phone similar to the Razr though.
Why need to distinguish themselves when asking for features? You want a folding phone, get a Samsung or razer
@@lars3001 lol, i've got a Razr; but, I'm more curious about how Apple would design their own. It's not a requirement for them, just curiosity.
And, as for distinguishing themselves from others, there's plenty of companies that like to mimic each other. While this won't stop them from trying to mimic Apple, if Apple were to keep the notch (even when it's no longer necessary), it would help to add a certain aesthetic to their name/brand.
Sure, their GUI is great, but, if the screen's off and you only get a quick glance at it, you're not going to know what brand it is, if you're looking for the GUI to tell you.
Consider that, there's many companies that will make a product, but, will do so with a distinct design, so that, at a glance, you'll immediately know what it is. Case in point, right now, you can identify Samsung's and Motorola's phones apart from others, simply cause they fold; though, that assumes you happen to have those. Whereas, how can you really identify an apple phone at a glance, if it's piled together with other similar looking phones. Though, they do have certain features that help to keep it distinct, there's nothing wrong with adding more to it to help out.
I'm honestly willing to bet Samsung will figure out the notchless design and have it more or less perfected by the time Apple releases their own (assuming they're not already on it and about to release that model next year, or so), and in so doing, will allow all other android phones follow suit. The notch would just be a neat design feature for Apple if they were to go with it.
Again, none of this is required, it's just my thoughts on the matter. But, there's typically certain design aesthetics to keep in mind with products, especially if you're interested in sticking out from everyone else, which Apple typically aims to do.
At first I was annoyed by the notch but after using the iPhone X for like a week, I honestly didn't mind it.

While some people here are stating that the notch can be a good design feature too like the iconic home button there are many people using or trying the same idea with a much smaller notch to sort of get into the apple theme, however most ad campaigns have stopped using notches in their makeshift phones and instead adopting the notchless approach. To me personally I think, if anything the 3 cameras BEHIND the phone are a lot more iconic or atleast on the same level, and to my knowledge there are barely any other phones out there with the same camera layout. And from the looks of the iphone 14 concepts and the guaranteed removal of the notch, the 3 camera layout will stay the same for atleast another 4 years.
