    I missed expounding on the "fight a fox with Fawkes"...I started to say, but then didn't, that that's a play of the Disney version too, where all the characters were animals, and Robin Hood was represented by an anthropomorphic fox. Bravo to the writers.

    The fingers reference has another reference in there - English Archers were incredibly powerful in battle, using bows that drew to over a hundred pounds so their arrows would pierce plate armour, and yes their enemies would cut their fingers off to disarm them. So it became a common taunt for archers to brandish those two fingers, as if to say "I've still got them, and they're going to make you pay".

    As soon as I heard the rap battle when it released, I was very hopeful you would react to it! I'm not huge into history, so I really had to do some research after listening the first time. Even then, I didn't get everything, so your explanations really helped a lot. That said, my favorite line has to be "All that gunpowder to bloody blunder and buss-t it." The play on words just makes me laugh.
    I do also agree on the whole being stunned hearing Stupes curse. I curse more than I should, so I'm not innocent by any means, but hearing them curse never fails to be shock. I partially think that's what makes it great though, is how rarely it occurs. It's special :P

    Well we use fireworks on forth of July because they represented national prosperity and patriotism before America was a thing. Also our national anthem goes "and the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there" I think fireworks are a great way to represent that.

    More accurately during the Anglo french fued when an archer was captured their index and middle funguses were cut off and in order to taunt the French the English would throw up the two fingers as a “fuck you we are rearing to go” sort of deal and that’s how the sign became a swear in the UK

    Loving the Starbomb shirt Ian, very cool!
    Y'know, they might not necessarily be comedy, but a lot of the Horrible Histories songs are parodies of well known songs and artists. "Gimme Gimme Crown" (also known as the 'Norman Family Tree' song or 'Matilda(s) & Stephen...& Henry') is a mash-up of multiple ABBA songs, for example and "Born To Rule" (can also be called 'The Four King Georges Song') is a parody of boy bands.
    A great reaction to the rap battle and I loved your knowledge about some famous faces in British history! Reminded me of some things I'd forgot about, like Fawkes being beheaded.

    He means Peter pantomime because I guess his acts looked pathetic and comparable to Robin Hood but Guy Fawkes is mighty. A pantonmime I think is a play/show where the main character, in this case Peter Pan, reinacting a book or main series of acts and win. Basically, it’s like a short interactive film in a room with a stage. It’s a British thing hence why Stupendium says it :)

    • @Insaneian
      @Insaneian  Год назад +5

      I know Pantomime's as plays, I've done a few myself (despite being American) and I think since both Robin Hood and Fawkes were also British is more the reason than just Stupes. But pantomime is also what mimes do (it's where the name comes from) so that's where I originally took the line to mean (meaning he was pantomiming or being a mime of Peter Pan...I had forgotten about the play style). Thanks!

    Like you, I don't mind swearing in a song, but I do think it shows more creativity if swearing is kept to a minimum; of course, this varies depending on the song. I mean, Lajoie's song, I Don't Give Fuck, sort of implies a lot of swearing.
