Hi Heather, I had just ordered 12-gauge brass wire and wondered why it felt like half hard. Rio Grande is checking to make sure the spool was correctly labelled, which I now think it was. Finding your video made it all clear to me. Since I will be making chains, I think I made the correct choice. Thank you for posting this informative video. It has exactly the info I need! But I would like to hear that copper trumpet...
You are very welcome Ann.
Oh thanks ,I had ordered my brass wire but was haven't seen people making much from brass wire...so happy to see this vedio today..😊.
Thanks so much for watching!
Great tutorial! I'm fairly new to jewelry wire and I always learn something new when I tune into your channel. I love the fun facts at the end too! LOL!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment. I'll have to do more fun facts!
I love clear and concise you are when you're teaching us. Thanks for sharing. Blessings to you and your family.
Thanks so much for your great feedback Pamular. Take care.
i love how you give fun facts
Thanks Mustafa. I'll have to dig up some more fun facts!
I love the fun facts and the fun jewlery.
SUPER COOL ARTIST
Thanks so much!
Going through your informationals one step at a time. Love this information. I tend to prefer copper, but now, at least I know why!!
Thanks for watching Trudy. I mostly use the Artistic copper wire.
Thank you for sharing.
The video is so helpful.
You are very welcome.
@@HeatherBoydWire And…can I assume that 20g Bass wire (dead soft) is stiffer than 18 ga copper wire (dead soft)? If that's the case, I could use a thinner wire (20g Bass wire) instead of a thicker wire (18g copper wire) to create a bracelet. In this way, the bracelet would be slim yet adequately sturdy.
Thank you.
Yay..since days I was trying to know this to choose buying which...my doubt got solved finally🤗
I'm happy this helped. Good luck!
I just bought a roll of beadalon's brass wire...the only brass I ever used was in the beginning 5 yrs ago when I practiced with snare wire...lol.. great fun facts about the instruments...I played the brass baritone in the school band🎶
That's so cool Kathy. I love the things I discover thanks to Google! Brass is a good wire that I will explore more!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful information on the difference between the two brass and copper. Im learning a so much from your videos.
I'm so happy Natalie. I love teaching and always say when we teach, we learn!
Never thought about brass wire...thank you! Still a newbie so now I’m gonna try it 👍
Good luck Lorraine. I like the Beadalon tarnish resistant brass. I have 20 gauge, but will try to get some 18 gauge for wrapping, rings, etc.
Heather Boyd Wire yes, I like thicker gauge also, and may try to find the Beadalon in 16ga for hammering (I really love the look of hammered wire lol)
@@lorraine8368 Yes. The hammered wire is cool. Michaels has a nice 16 gauge copper wire I've been using for the hair pins
Interesting. Thanks, I'm learning still.
Thanks so much Elmarie
Super helpful thank you!!
You are very welcome Christine.
Thank you so much
You are very welcome Julia.
First time I see you, and I love your video. I subscribed. I want to learn with you. I am from Panamá.
Thanks so much Juanita.
Nice
Thank you.
I’m a beginner in jewellery making! Should I use brass or copper for making the jewelleries? Are these both tarnish resistant?
You can buy tarnish resistant brass or copper from Beadalon. Copper is softer and brass is a bit stiffer. I use more copper than brass.
@@HeatherBoydWire also how many necklaces can you make from one roll of this wire?
Hello Heather- I appreciate this video. Do you know what type of jewelry wire would be the most tarnish resistant? I’m looking for a gold wire for jewelry making/weaving, other than real gold! What comes close that could last years (with excellent care) before tarnishing? And where can I buy it? Thanks for any help!!
Hi Sandy: Artistic has an affordable tarnish resistant gold wire. You can find it on Amazon or on the Beadalon website.
Thank you!! How long before these start to tarnish, have you experienced? I will look to buy the Artistic Wire brand in yellow (brass), rose (copper), and the silver (don’t know what material yet, but I need this color).
How do you clean the tarnish off these? Do they have a coating on them that I will be rubbing off?
You are so charming that I had to subscribe!!! Thank u for the info!!
Thanks so much and thanks for subscribing Robby.
Thanks for making maybe the only quick video on this subject!
I'm looking for wire for clay armatures, one that's a little stronger than copper. My copper armatures break sometimes while I'm trying to pose them after wrapping things together. Is brass pretty resistant to bending as well?
Yes, brass is resistant. You can also use galvanized aluminum from the hardware store (not soft aluminum that is sold for crafts/jewelry) www.homedepot.ca/product/ook-50-ft-18-ga-10-lb-max-aluminum-wire-1pc/1001027857
I love the flower necklace you're wearing in this video. Do you have a tutorial on it?
Thank you! It's on my list to make a tutorial...you are motivating me to fast track it!
Thanks for your video! I have a additional question on copper versus brass. I'm learning how to wire weave using copper and loving it! I would like to do some wire weaving in a gold tone, and since gold is expensive, the options seem to be gold plated copper or brass. I like the look of brass but is it hard to do weaving and coiling with it?
Hi Elena: I'm not a wire weaver. I use 20 g Artistic tarnish resistant brass and copper from Beadalon. The copper is softer than the brass but both are easy to work with. They have gold coloured copper that may be perfect for weaving in 24, 26 or 28 gauge depending on which you like to weave with. Good luck.
@@HeatherBoydWire Thanks you've given me some ideas to try. 🙂
Hey Heather.. what kind of metal can I use to make plain headbands
You can use Artistic tarnish resistant copper wire by Beadalon.
Thanks, your comparision video help, I am however upto making some wire puzzles. Will love to share my experiance afterwards.
You are very welcome. My husband used to make wire puzzles years ago. Good luck!
Can you please tell about aluminium wire what we can made with them?
I have a few tutorials using 12 gauge coloured aluminum wire ruclips.net/video/Nx2NorMktKY/видео.html other than that you can use aluminum for earrings as long as you use surgical steel hooks.
Thanks Heather very helpful!!
You are very welcome Tracy!
Hi ! I’m just starting wire wrapping to sell jewelry…are either or these or another type of wire able to get wet? I wanna know the answer to this question when ppl ask me
Hi Keana: I wouldn't wear these wire in the shower or pool. Sterling or Argentium silver are your best bet for that.
hello heather, what size gauge would you recommend for wire rings?
Hi Julia: I use 18g for ring bands and 20g for many of my wire wrapped rings
Much love to everyone
Thanks Mary!
Hi!
I kinda interested in making this.
But,what is the suitable measurement for the copper wire?for making the name wire art?
I use 20 gauge wire the the names.

My favorite wire is brass
It is a nice wire!
Hi what gauge of brass do you use for wire naming and where can I purchase the brass wire from ?
Hi Sandra. I use 20 g Artistic wire from Beadalon. You can buy on their website or on Amazon. Good luck.
@@HeatherBoydWire thank you, I’m just starting what kind of chain and from where , can I use for brass names? Thanks in advance
Does brass tarnish as fast as copper?
In my experience the brass tarnishes less. I currently use the plastic coated tarnish resistant brass and copper wire from Beadalon
What kind of chain do use for brass names thanks
You can search for chains on Etsy. www.etsy.com/ca/search?q=brass+chain+ Good luck!
HI Heather Boyd Wire Mam pls can you tell me for what is 30 guage wire used in jewellery. Pls let me know.
I know people use 30 gauge for fine details in weaving. I have used it for crochet but prefer 28 gauge.
@@HeatherBoydWire If it is not going to be of much use . Should I return it . Pls let me know. Thankyou.
I have put a return request on Amazon and I will get a refund soon .
@@ashadominicafernandes461 That's great. Amazon is good about returns.
