Proud of you man 🎉
Since you could point to the sky Gareth, you have wanted this and I’m so happy and proud it’s finally happening for you
❤️💂♀️🚁🐥❤️
Thanks Mum xXx
All power to the mustache!!
In the mustache we trust!
With great mustache comes great responsibility.
👍👍👍 I'll probably never fly a real helicopter, but my throttle axis is getting inverted! Well done.
So so proud of you Gareth! You really are reaching for the stars and chasing your dream! I will always support you and very proud to be part of it all with you xx
Oh yeah....superb, love the style, comms and the flyin' ! Well done Mav - look forward to the future lessons and following your progress !
Much appreciated mate thank you so much for all the support to get to this point.
Congrats Maverick! Nice job! Instructor: "you fly helicopters in DCS? Mav: Yes! Instructor: You have a RUclips channel? Mav: Yes! Instructor: And, you have not said MF'er one time...LOL!
how has nobody commented on the quality of the instructors moustache? This is an excellently groomed piloty looking guy!
He is indeed!
Love it! At some point though you're gonna have to put James through the "Slippery Weasel 1A" approach, we poor virtual CPGs won't be the only ones traumatized.
i just joined your channel after watching the ground target radar tutorial you have for my love the F/A-18...i wish you to become a real pilot from the bottom of my heart...Aviation is the greatest thing in this world..i found out that very late, but still i love it
Thank you so much mate!
Filmed in ..... BusterVision!
Great work you McLegend sir!
The mustache is the secret! Love your videos! Keep up with the good work!
Thank you!! 😁
Damn this is a Fantastic Video lol, put up by a fantastic virtual pilot. So happy for your fantastic flight.

dawg, happy as fuck for you man. haven't watched any twitch or anything in a long time but love seeing ya in this mate
much love brother, well done! thanks for bringing everyone along, happy flying :)
My pleasure dude, thanks for watching.
It's about damn time! Awesome! The sim time payed off I'll bet :)
Hope you took a victory lap around the boat afterwards because this was awesome! Well done and congrats on starting the journey!
Cracking Mav, good to see you back on RUclips and following your dream, I look forward to seeing your progress, I hope you didn’t follow through mate 😂😂
Congratulations!!! So proud of you!!!
Nice video! Good to see an old class mate instructing you!
Hey thanks! I really enjoyed watching your journey and videos!
So proud of you!
What an opportunity! I can't wait to see this training progress, well done Mav. - Nuts
Looking forward to your next video! Nicely done
Damnnnn maaaaaan! I can tell you have flight sim experience. You flew excellent for your first lesson. Good job and congratulations! I need to start my helo training soon, 18500 hours fixed wing time 😜
Such a dream! Amazing instructor. I am so happy for you!
Thank you so much!
Fantastic mate! LIVING the dream! The instructors moustache is legendary :D
Thanks brother, surely old Whipsy could get a strong tache like that on the go? Let's make it happen :D
Already sporting it bro :)
My man!
So proud of you to chase your dreams Mav. Not an easy feat for anyone to do in the modern day and age.
Thanks brother
Class Act Mav, just need to strap some 120's on it! (Chillybean)
I'm a passive viewer of your channel, haven't participated much in the comments before but couldn't resist commenting here.
Amazing stuff, this is great to see. I had a C172 test flight last year. You absolutely hit the nail on the head with regards to feeling the airframe wobble, shake and move. It gives you so much awareness that you don't get in sim. I'd bet returning to the PC afterward was disappointing!
Thanks for watching and the comment mate
congrats on starting the journey man, it sounds like it's something you've wanted to do for a long time. good luck!
Thanks man, its been a dream since I was a kid, I still can't believe its actually happening for real!
Its about time...
Congrats Mav, hoping to start my own flying journey this year - albiet in fixed wing! - Looking forward to seeing your journey and hopefully catch you in the 104th server sometime (I'll be the one crashing my Apache over and over again!) Good luck!
Thanks Rick! Good luck to you on your journey brother, keep us posted with how it goes!
@104_Maverick :) I have had 2 lessons so far mate, its bloody fantastic :)
one of the key differences is if you mess up bad you cannot respawn mate lol
Great Job Mav!
Well done Gareth, you’ll soon get the hang of hovering! Look ahead, hold the attitude! At least you have a governor, when I did it in a Bell 47, no governor and 95% of attention on holding the engine rpm between 3050 and 3100rpm using the twist grip throttle. That was 1980!
Thank you so much Nick. You’re a huge inspiration to starting this journey!
My mans TASH is on FIRE!! Epic.. great stuff Mav
God i'm so nervous just watching! Well done!!!
36:50 Oh yeah, I hear yeah on that! I often do that mistake when trying to land helis in Arma3. I need to buy one of Virpil's new Helicopter collectives! :D In DCS, I'd recommend Inverting your axis so you PULL for more power and PUSH for less power. Kinda get your muscle memory that way :)
I inverted it the same day as this flying lesson when I got home mate!
That watch was excellent. Nice one for starting your journey!
nice man, dream to reality.
Congrats Mav! No doubt you're a top shelf student, and welcome to a fascinating world!
Thank you kindly sir, I'm so glad you've seen this! I improve a lot in the next video during the hover, can't wait to share that with you!
well done mav!
Fecking love it,, to see you follow dream, study hard pal and you will smash it, :)
I hope so mate, thank you!
GG mate. Amazing video. Well done!
Great place to learn. After getting your license with them might be worth applying for the fully sponsored commercial license.
Absolutely, the dream is there!
@@104thMaverick Next thing you know you're flying SAR since they have ties with Bristow. I hope you make it Mav, great to see your taking the leap.
I'm not in the least bit jealous, I'm UTTERLY Jealous! Fascinating video thanks for letting us share in the journey mate.
My pleasure brother thank you for all the support!
@@104thMaverick if you’re after a genuine chat about realistic career opportunities in UK helicopter avenues, then hit me up, min.
Damn the graphics look good up there
The FPS was amazing too mate!
Keep up the hard work it'll be worth it in the end.
I've been lucky enough to fly in numerous civil & military helicopters in my work and rescue team roles, but only ever 'taken control' in a straight line at height!
Enjoy the experience dude.
Awesome video mate. It's going to be really cool to see your progression. 🙂👍
Thanks mate
Well done Mav, its great to see your dreams playing out
Thank you so much Craig!
Congratulations!! So amazing that you got some stick time!! Very happy and proud for you!
He/you did REALLY well.
Thanks man
Good for you Mav, really happy for you 😀. Where was the barrel roll though? 🤣
Thanks 🤣
Just seeing this now Mav! Great work, I'm thinking about getting my ground-school done and then taking my ROC-A radio certification. getting the ball rolling for PPL. again Beautiful!!
Go for it brother, good luck!
Congratulations! Also, that instructor is fantastic!
Thank you! He really is, I’m mega lucky to have him as my instructor
104th mav, I have known and watched you through the interwebz for a while. congratz on finally realizing your dream.
should of set up ur hotas throttle inverted in the sim!
Hey thanks Amantla! I inverted my throttle after my first flying lesson mate, it really helped me out.
Brilliant mate! Nice to see you start the dream!
48:50 - VPC collective ftw
awesome dude, and a very patient instructor you have there. best of luck progressing
Thanks Stephen!
I am so happy you finally did it!!! Congrats Mav!
Thanks mate!
Absolutely top effort mate, I can imagine it been very challenging, like trying to pat your head whilst rubbing your tummy and sweeping the floor at the same time lol sterling effort mate, looking forward to seeing more of your journey to a PPL, top man 👏👏👏
Thanks mate, hoping to have the next video out very soon, cheers for the support!
@@104thMaverick Thanks mate, I'm UK Veteran 77 on Twitch just so you know 😉👍
Awesome mate!
Nice Mav!
Thanks brother
@@104thMaverick can't wait for the next video Mav! Very impressed! Also, shout out to James! Looks to be an amazing instructor. Need to get that man a Top Gun hat.
So awesome Mav!
Cheers Ben!
Amazing footage and flying Mav, go chase that dream! Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it mate, my pleasure!
Thank God you are in a Cabri and not a Robinson, or as I like to call them, Death Machines.
Very cool bro! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching mate!
Way to go, Mav. So was it easier or harder than you thought? Usually the sim is harder to fly than the real thing. Good on you, bro.
Real life is way harder than the sim brother, especially the hovering.
Real world helicopter pilot here. I literally thought it was impossible to hover a helicopter when I started. I looked at my flight instructor in awe when he demonstrated it. Took about 3 or 4 hours until I could somewhat hover it and from there, it just gets better and better! Enjoy the journey and don’t give up!
Side note, amazing to get the seat feel now huh? That’s what is so hard about the sim, zero feeling in your butt.
Great Video. Congrats to your first flight.
Thanks a lot!
about to join you on the same journey mate..first lesson in the G2 April 23
Awesome brother! You’ll love it mate it’s a fantastic aircraft, keep me posted with your progress.
@@104thMaverick Will do mate, like you Ive flown sims for decades but expecting to get humbled :)
Awesome video brother!
Thanks for watching mate!
great stuff !!!!
Thanks!
Congratulations! Really happy for you and can't wait to follow your progress.
For the collective / home setup thing. A while back there was a survey on hoggit (I think) and about 50% of people answered they had it set up throttle forward -> increase collective. I alway had it the other way around and never expected so many did it the "throttle forward" way. It just never felt natural to me. Only thing is, when I change to the Harrier after flying a heli, it may happen that I lower the throttle when I should increase it ;-)
Nicely done buddy.
Thanks 👍
Nice one Mav. Were the doors open for the hovering because of the excessive sweating?🤣
Something like that Jim yes mate :D
Nice one. I'm a PPL(A) and thinking of doing an hour or two in the G2 just for the experience, possibly at Helicentre so was very interested to see how you got on. Like you, I have been trying out the G2 on the home sim (MSFS) using the conventional throttle for collective.
Nice one! Let me know how you get on if you go for it, it’s a great aircraft, you’ll love it!
@@104thMaverick Will do !
Great job man! If I lived in a city where I could learn to fly helos, I would be doing it too :D
Awesome
what more l can say good luck with yours dreams ant go for it good luck 💪
Thanks wolf 🐺
i haven't seen a minute.. Although im already a bit proud of this scottish professional ArmA Pilot (jk jk) :PP
Soon you will be flying like in arma3🤣 Proud of you and good luck!
Thanks mate!
Halfway through this video, I'm itching to fly. I think I'm gonna log onto Arma3 now :P lol
in sims heli it is good idea to set collecfive reversed if using hotas to better match real life
Yeah I learned that the hard way and have now set it to reversed.
@@104thMaverick so did you find controlling the cyclic in hover similar to sim?
@@vracan No brother, its much harder in real life than the sim.
@@104thMaverick wow thought body sensation would be really helpful with that
Nice! If you have any questions or need any help Message me, I’ve been a Heli Pilot commercially for 6 years and have close to 3000 Hrs. I’d be happy to help and share my love of helicopters with you, they are one of the most fun, rewarding and challenging pieces of machinery out there
Time to invest in a Virpil Rotor/Rotor Plus collective?
I’ve been doing great so far mate without a home collective although I have thought about getting one for the future just for the cool factor.
Is there a speed limit on the doors?
No brother, they are latched when they are open so they don’t go anywhere and the top speed is not fast enough to induce any negative effects of having them open.
How close are DCS helis to the real one?
They are a good approximation but flying them irl is very different, I’ll talk more about this in a future video mate
