Awd is useable for changeable weather conditions on tarmac roads and race tracks and 4wd is useable for muddy,rocky surfaces and obstacles i.e. off roading. 4wd is temporary and can be disengaged and awd is permanent operated by clutch. Awd comes in saloons and sporty suvs such as audi quattro, bmw xdrive in 5,7,6series and merc with 4matic in e,c,gl series. 4wd comes in offroad suvs such as jeep,land cruiser,4runner,tacoma,defender.

@@suneeeelkumar it wasn't meant to be a family car. Even the original Thar wasn't. They would have killed the personality of the vehicle with 4 doors. For family, they already offer tons of options - xuv 500, 300 etc. This one maintains the original characteristics of the Thar, but it's more urban now and little suitable for daily use compared to its predecessor.
Everyone is quite impressed in the comments section but none of them would buy one. A 4-door variant would have been more welcoming. LX variant of the petrol version should have come with a Manual Transmission.
True I agree with you but think about it. No one buys a jeep with practicality in mind. It's all about the adventure and thrill seeking. People who do buy it eventually either live on hills or buy it as a secondary car for adventure rides. So this car is designed exactly with this people in mind who will end up buying it as their primary vehicle.

For everyone complaining that this looks too much like the Wrangler, you can't really expect an off-roader to look like a sedan now can you? The classic Thar has its roots from the original Jeep and a modernized version of it is bound to look like this. If you modify the old Thar too aggressively, you'll get a similar look on the outside. Hats off to Mahindra for a job well done!

The grill is an eyesore ,but it's an easy aftermarket fix ..and people who think Thar is a copy of Wrangler ,the Wrangler is an evolutionary design of the original cj3b & Mahindra also assembled the Cj-3B as cl550 here under Licensed approval of Jeep like HM made ambassador from MG motors. And not only that Mahindra also renewed their license in 2009 before the inception of new gen mm540 called the Thar. So those who don't know educate yourself ,it's not a blatant copy but an agreement between two manufacturers to continue the legacy mahindra has also been a part of.It's like Tata manufacturing Multijet from FCA and calling it with a different name ,they get the engine but mahindra uses the Design .The roxor case was because mahindra wasn't allowed to use the same in FCA'S homemarket - America ,that wasn't part of the deal but if it's a copy they can sue them here too ,but they can't & won't .

They have very good alturas G4 but it has to compete with market leader ford and Toyota so they are not selling well.
Marazzo is a flop car. Xuv300 is nice car.
Marazzo isn't so good at driving. It has a very lacklustre engine performance. Maybe that's why it hasn't set sales charts on fire yet.

The rear seat not having its own set of side doors will be the biggest problem for Thar. Rest everything looks good.
Then it will need to have a hard top
They could have added rear entry atleast. Aged people can't sit at back seats. So not a family car

For everyone complaining that this looks too much like the Wrangler, you can't really expect an off-roader to look like a sedan now can you?
The classic Thar has its roots from the original Jeep and a modernized version of it is bound to look like this. If you modify the old Thar too aggressively, you'll get a similar look on the outside.
Hats off to Mahindra for a job well done!

The grill is an eyesore ,but it's an easy aftermarket fix ..and people who think Thar is a copy of Wrangler ,the Wrangler is an evolutionary design of the original cj3b & Mahindra also assembled the Cj-3B as cl550 here under Licensed approval of Jeep like HM made ambassador from MG motors. And not only that Mahindra also renewed their license in 2009 before the inception of new gen mm540 called the Thar. So those who don't know educate yourself ,it's not a blatant copy but an agreement between two manufacturers to continue the legacy mahindra has also been a part of.It's like Tata manufacturing Multijet from FCA and calling it with a different name ,they get the engine but mahindra uses the Design .The roxor case was because mahindra wasn't allowed to use the same in FCA'S homemarket - America ,that wasn't part of the deal but if it's a copy they can sue them here too ,but they can't & won't .
Finally, finally a sensible person! Thank God! People like you and me are needed in more numbers, tbh.
