jan akkerman and thius van lear.....the ludwig van betovens...in our day and age......lets thank god for his musical abilities that he gives us......when most children are learning their abcs....they were already mastering the musical scale.....as jaco pastorius said on his bass instructional video....SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST BORN WITH THAT GOD GIVEN TALENT....
This upload is from vinyl. Hear the snap, crackle, pop. Love it. The CD has extended versions of this cut and Bach One Turbo Overdrive. A great underrated effort from the Dutch Masters!
A stunning piece from the master. Eventually got this on cd with the longer versions of this piece and Beethoven's Revenge. No one else on the planet could ever have written this. It's classic Van Leer.
Yea this is cool Can really hear the fusion I have been into these since 1972 they must be the most experimental prog band that ever was van leer and Ackerman
I have always admired van Leers way of using the delay on the chords not just as an sound effect, but as a musical parameter. It´s a shame this wonderful album can´t be found on Spotify, when (almost) all the other albums are there. My old LP will have to do...
Mauricio Grassmann O original no LP de 1985 tem 7:30 mins . Nao ha nenhum tema tao lungo. Beethoven's Revenge é 10:47 mins. Disculpa meu horrendo portugués...hahah
Anybody out there able to explain what exactly happened between these 2 to end that working relationship? Always wondered. Latest Focus album pretty good btw!!!
Phil Weitzen I heard it was one of them accused the other of importing drugs.I read it somewhere but can’t remember where.Akkerman can be a prickly character at the best of times.Anyway loved this album and my lp has gone bush so great to hear it again
@@alanthorne3921 it way typical artist crap. You know, they can be stubborn. Each has their own ideas and direction and if they dont flow and evolve together... its a doomed partnership. Can really apply to any facet of life and relationships.
I recently watched some interviews in Dutch, which is close to German which I understand. Akkerman said van Leer thought he was the “musical genius” of the group. van Leer responded that he felt they were two captains of the same ship, and that he was sad when Akkerman left, after having achieved such popularity. However, the live footage tells the tale, as Akkerman looks increasingly bored and annoyed at the performances, playing over van Leer, and eventually puts himself on the opposite side of the stage from van Leer with a huge drum riser between them. Also Akkerman stated that it was against everything musical to repeat the same songs in the same way in every performance. So it looks to me that Akkerman is basically a prima Donna who could not be pleased. His solo albums after Focus were rather bland in my opinion, as were Focus without Akkerman. I’m glad they are still performing as Focus with van Leer and Pierre van der Linden, my favourite Focus drummer. It says something about it all, considering that Akkerman forced van Leer to fire the original drummer and bassist and to hire van der Linden, his friend and band mate in his former band Brainbox.
The beautiful magic these two create takes you to Heaven, 2023 here

Akkerman's guitar sound on this, Russian Roulette and Ole Judy is beyond awesome.
Can never understand why this brilliant album never gets a proper release on CD - I've still got my old vinyl copy but its so scratched now...

Depending on the coitus.

Thanks to everyone for shedding some light on this sad scenario..... their respective legacies in and out of Focus remains undeminished!!
