- Is this the most beautiful place in California?! This is a 3 night / 4 day backpacking trip in what I consider to be among the most beautiful places in the Eastern Sierra and even California for that matter. I'm joined by 3 of my friends as we start this adventure just a couple of days after the first snow of the season. It is absolutely stunning scenery from start to finish! Come along!

Take it from a couple of “old timers”. Take nothing for granted! God bless.
Words cannot describe the beauty of the High Sierras.
I have hiked Donnel Vista, Clarks Fork, Pinecrest, Jamestown, I have panned for gold in the Kern canyon, San Gabriel mountains east fork, I've beach bummed the 1 through Big Sur to the Redwoods just north of San Fran, and your videos show me I have yet to touch the surface of even grander creation, thank you Cat!
I just loved Martina's comment in the end that the trip was breath taking. Backpacking around 10,000 Ft is definitely breath taking!😘
Thank you for this trip , I grew up backpacking all thru the Sierras ,made two trips to Ediza in the late 70s early 80s my Dad and I summited Mt Ritter on the second trip ,I have been all over the central Sierras Emigrant basin , Trinity alps and Eastern Sierras , I lost my Dad two years ago he was my main backpacking buddy , thanks for the great memories
Every bit as beautiful as the Enchantment Lakes in the Cascades.
So beautiful Cat! Every time I see one of your hiking videos I’m so grateful you’re posting this scenery for everyone to enjoy. I’m also very grateful these wild areas were preserved for posterity by our forward thinking ancestors. No doubt you guys would be hiking past hotels and condos if that hadn’t happened. ❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I loved all the lakes each one has its own beauty. Of course the mountain views are as you say stunning. Thank you you and your fellow hikers for taking us with you..
So true Brad! Thank you! Also…thank you mom!
Gorgeous indeed! The only thing I would like is a fire but thankfully it didn’t rain. The scenery is just spectacular! Nothing like the fresh clean air in the mountains!!
great video, Kit Kat. thanks for sharing..
..Gypsy J van..
If it's cold, then, I will stay
home. Home sweet home !
What we need is a "Hiking Man" event for hikers , bikers , campers , RVers , climbers and more !!!! This annual gathering will bring the outdoors community together !!!! Oh , the stories to be told !!!! Can you get this dream of mine started !!!!????
The Eastern Sierra (Mammoth and the Mono Lake area) always calls me home. It is a special place.
This half hour was so much fun. The landscapes are stunning, the camaraderie is uplifting. I am so jealous, Catherine.
Sad that I can only experience these locations vicariously and joyful that I can experience them through your lens.
Thank you again for sharing a bit of your life with me. What you do really matters.
🙏❤️🙏
I stumbled on this video and was completely floored by the beauty of the sierra. I’m now obsessed with hiking this trail! I’m going to do it. I’m going to make it happen. You did such an amazing job capturing the beauty of this trail. I can tell you spent a lot of time and effort filming and editing this video. You have truly inspired me, and I thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
WOW. The Sierra lakes were all otherworldly 😮 Mirror smooth with totally breathtaking surroundings. Sign me up 😅 🙋🏼♀️👍🏻
🥾❤️⛰❤️🥾 OMG what a stunning recap of our adventure ….. I just LOVE Sierras….. Cant wait to be back ….. the blooper at the very end 🤪🤣🙌….LOL😂😂😂😂
Glad you liked it! ❤️❤️ It was an awesome adventure!
Double cheese, with BACON!
😂😂😂😂
one word....'Incredible", California is such a beautiful state, great video, thanks...
Your good friend, Terry, is sad she missed it (Kim 😢). What a beautiful walk in the woods with beautiful people. But, glad I could at least get out to Yosemite then celebrate with you all, enjoying a burger, too. 😉
You were definitely missed!
Hi Catherine! Your opening shot made this Sunday all the more worth the while.
I vote for Mineral King as the most beautiful part of California. But the Eastern Sierra is a close second! 🙂
Easter Sierras are beautiful! The morning light backlighting on the surrounding hills/mountains is only surpassed by the super-reflective water of the lakes. Thanks Cat for your magnificent photographic summary of the trip, you are awesome! This is a wonderful welcome to the Fall season.😊
Thank you so much Ken. Seeing those lake reflections in person was amazing!
Thanks for the break. Dealing with basement flooding, probability of cancer in my daughter...but your video took me away. Thank you!
I think I said WOW! about 30 times this episode! 😯🌲🌲 Mind blowing beauty around every turn on the trail. Thank you Catherine! High Five! 🙌❤ Have a safe week! 🙏
Had to watch this one again on a cold and windy day in May from the Northern Sierra.
Majestic!!! God is THE greatest artist for sure.
Cat, this was fun!! The scenery of course took the center stage position but the group joking around & obvious love of the nature you all walked through made all fun & exciting.
I bought my first round of AG1, so as of today started that & with hughe determination will work on taking 60 pounds off my 59 year old body. My husband & I are outdoor peeps & I grew up at the lakes of the Midwest.
Love hiking, yaking (kayaking) & triking (our Harley 3 wheeler motorcycle in the mountains).
God is good & we are ready to get healthier & pull on the hiking boots again. Thanks for the inspiration Cat!
That dusting of snow became the icing on the cake.
That's exactly what we said! :)
😎👀🤫💭 Good Friends' Good times' Thanks Cat ! 👍👍👍👍👋✌
The first time I made this hike we went from Agnew Meadows to Devils Postpile. I had a crew of high adventure Boy Svouts in tow for four days. Many of them have come to me in that intervening 25 years and told me that single hike had set them on a lifetime of backpacking. Stunning beauty.
My brothers and I made 3 trips from Agnew Meadows, 2 that ended in Yosemite Valley and one that looped back and ended at Mammoth. All 3 passed Thousand Islands lake and I especially remember the first time I reached the outlet of Thousand Islands Lake......the scenery was the most incredible I'd ever laid eyes on. Those memories are still fresh 50 years later.
wow! Yes, I have heard of the thousand island lake area. I need to go there!!
Absolutely gorgeous and restful…for me. 😃Thank you.
I remember hiking to Convict Lake and Obsidian Dome back in 1989. I thought that area was absolutely beautiful!
Love the video!! I hiked some of the same trails back in the 80's when I was a teen but we stayed at Lake Laura and Lake Altha. I chuckled when you mentioned the food backpackers imagine eating as they near the trail's end. I guessed cheeseburger as that was always my first choice after a hike and apparently it is a thing...
Has to be up there as one of your best photography videos Catherine 🏴
Spectacular. Some of my favorite pictures from the JMT are from Garnet Lake.
We just hiked the Big Creek trail to seven lakes. You've inspired me to do this loop next.
Absolutely beautiful!
Stunning views. Great videography. Thank you for another beautiful video. Take care.
Your opening shot was incredible! I really believe that if you held an art show with your still shots it would be a huge success. Greetings from Florida.
Another gorgeous hike Cat. You have taken me to so many beautiful places and I truly appreciate you. Thanks for the great video’s. Keep posting. Your friend in Pennsylvania. Bob
WOW OH MY GOSH What stunning views. Thank you for taking me along. I would no have seen that beautiful area with my bad knees. Thank you so much 💓
Yes very beautiful country too and watching enjoying too 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎❤ beautiful music too AWESOME VIDEO Catherine ❤
Hike hunger! Yes! What beautiful scenery! I would love to hike there one day!
SPECTACULAR scenery! Your video title is spot on. There cannot be a more beautiful place on this planet .
As I sit on my heating pad, nursing a torn upper hamstring, I’m so thankful to you for bringing such astounding beauty right into my home. I know it’s not easy leaving the cosy warmth of your sleeping bag before dawn in order to capture the glow of first light on those amazing peaks. But I also know the anticipation and excitement that motivates you to do so. Your amazing and well thought out cinematography never disappoints. Also, I really enjoyed your inclusion of the comaradarie with your friends at camp. Blessings to you Catherine!
Wishing you a speedy recovery! Thanks so much!
I watch all your videos, but I LOVE the backpacking videos. So beautiful!! And cold!
Glad you like them! Thank you!
Aww beautiful places 😍thanks for taking us along 😀enjoy your cheese burger 🍔😋
Such beauty Tks for showing and allowing me come along
Thanks for letting us share your loop hike. Lovely. You have three great friends there.
I definitely do! Thank you GK!
Catherine, so glad to see you got back out to what I consider the most beautiful shorter not so difficult loop in the Sierra. Definitely the most bang for your buck! Great job!
Breathtakingly beautiful
What incredibly stunning views at those lakes! Amazing. ❤️
It definitely is my favorite wilderness area to explore. Not to many lakes rival ediza lake and thousand island lake
That is a really pretty place, Thank You for taking me along.🙏👍
Breath taking, yes! Thanks for taking us along!
Another 5 star video! 🌟 So very special to take us along on your trips. Beauty seen is remarkable. Beauty seen and shared is beyond description. My heart sings every time you post one. Thank you so very much for sharing 😊.
Love the stick-over-the-map routine. High resolution visuals are breathtaking!
Wonderful friends, beauty surrounding you all. Thank you once again for taking us where our bodies can no longer go.
What a great trip with good friends! Had to laugh as I was betting "cheese burgers" were on everyone's minds lol! The forest looks healthy - hopefully the pine beetle threat is fading. Thanks for sharing.
such jaw-dropping sights!!
Ohh Kat thank you so much for taking us along. I always look forward to your videos.
“Of all the mountain ranges I have climbed, I like the Sierra Nevada the best.” John Muir
I am a fellow photographer as well and because of a injury I am temporary sideline from going somewhere far. So when I see your videos they so do inspire me. To give get out there even where I am take photos. Your pictures are beautiful 😍🖐️🎇. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely amazing. Feels like it was ages ago even though it was quite recent. Thank you for capturing an amazing trip and bringing us back to the Sierra this morning 😊.
Absolutely loved the blooper at the end!
We had such a blast! Counting down the days until we do it again! ❤️
Very stunning!! What I really like though that puts this altogether is the music you pick. The music is so tranquil and allows us to absorb these magnificent views you are seeing. Good job Cat! 🙂
This is one of those times when words are not enough! I very much enjoy your backpacking adventures because you always take us to the majesty of our beautiful country.
Nice photography of a favorite area! An alternate route with a little more mileage and elevation gain is to start from Agnew trailhead by going to Minaret lake, Cecile lake, and then descending to Iceberg and Ediza lakes. Descending from Cecile lake is the only section which entails rock scrambling instead of defined trails.
Generally, above 10,000' in the Sierra, and especially in highly trafficked areas (e.g. Ediza), campfires are permanently banned. Wood grows too slow and is too sparse to allow campfires.
One of the best and most stunningly beautiful High Sierra loops, then add to that some great backpacking friends to share in the adventure.... Doesn't get much better!!!
Another brilliant movie. Unbelievable, what a beautiful area. Thank you for sharing this with us. Many are no longer able to do these hikes. Because of your beautiful images we can enjoy a bit of what a beautiful nature there is. 😊😊
Wow Catherine! Dare I say, one of your best video's ever! I've lived in the Eastern Sierra area for 30 plus years, and I am embarrassed to say I've never hiked to any of these places. Backpacking just wasn't something I did. I must change that! Stunning video!
I shared your video on my Facebook page. People need to see your work!
I hope you try backpacking. Thank you so much for sharing! I appreciate that Mark! 🙏❤️
Spectacular! Thank You Catherine 😊
It's has beautiful as the California dream
Hope you had plenty of those orange, shake 'em up to wake 'em up hot packs. Come in different sizes. Would definitely toss a couple in the foot of my sleeping bag! You were right about the beauty! Thank you Cat!👍👍P.S. Your friends were delightful and loved the last comment of your friend looking forward to a burger with bacon. 😉😉😉
One of the few areas of the Sierra I have not gotten to, but always want to. Maybe next year! If you ever want a Geologist on one of your hikes, I'm your man. Thank you for the adventure!
You did such a GOOD JOB on this one Cat. Wonderful shots! Love the hat. Sorry you guys could not have a fire.
Beautiful views, a wonderful trip for you with friends.
I have no words, this place is the best!!
banner peak, wonderful
Beautiful country! Thanks for sharing 🤗
I sincerely hope when you backpack alone you have a Personal Locator Beacon in case you get lost or injured. Too many people have gone missing or died. You are a gem and we do not want to lose you.How come no fishing at these beautiful lakes?
I guess times have changed.
In my day - the go to food was Pizza and Beer.
Great trip.
Thanks for sharing.
Cat, we would never be happy on a cold trip together.
On cold trips, I always said -"protocol be damned, I need to snuggle for warmth" 😇
Haha... Thank goodness for warm sleeping bags and hand & feet warmers. :)
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures
@Catherine Gregory
Since my hikes took place while your parents were still holding hands - it's safe to say, we didn't have hand warmers (other than armpits and gloves)
Warm feet, ment dry boots.
Even so, I loved my Christmas trips. 7 years I went with the same girl and have the best memories for them.
Charmain and I only took these trips, we never seen each other all year, never talked, never knew each other other than our Christmas's that we lived for.
Life moved on and so did we.
Your videos are a blessing, that you probably should never been told about.🤦♂ 🌸🌸🌼🌼
Martina seems like a hiking machine!
😂😂😂
Thanks so much for posting this beautiful video. I fell in love with the Sierra about 40 years ago at the age of 30. Took my son there a number of times. Taught him to fish there. Age and disease have taken their toll and I doubt if I could hike at all at that altitude. But what great memories your video kindled. It's my favorite place and you captured it beautifully.
Love the Sierra’s! Beautiful videography…as always!
OMG! I can’t tell you how many times I paused this video to just stare at the spectacular scenery! Beyond stunning! Thank you
Glorious high Serra I did backpacking in Yosemite in the late 80s. Breathtaking.
I hiked the same area with 4 friends one month earlier, from August 20th to 25th 2022. Much warmer, I'm sure. Seeing your video, Cat, was a great recap of the trails for me, both the beauty and the sore hip flexors at the end of each day. We didn't through hike. We made a base camp at Garnet Lake and took long day hikes out and around 1000 Island Lake and scrambled cross country into the pristine high country above those lakes. All amazing. Recommend!
Who made this beautiful world? The best architect of the universe… Our divine Creator…. Thanks for the video.
Such peace and serenity thanks Cat
All I can say is WOW !! I’m lost for words on how beautiful and well put together your videos are. Thanks! Also I like how you show the map.
This was breathtaking for me to watch! Actually I took some deep relaxing breaths while watching. Thanks 😊🧚🌈
Splendor and all of its synonyms. It shined though on your face.
Stunning country, Catherine! Thanks.
Absolutely beautiful scenery.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your great presentation ..beautiful scenery..great photography
That was just a scenic overload.
Awesome scenery in this video, thanks for taking us along.
Hiked to Shadow Lake a while back. Magnificent.
Was up in Bishop just a few days ago. Drove to Sabrina Lake - glorious color on the Aspens & had my coffee overlooking the Lake. #1 coffee spot in America LOL
Eastern Sierra is still a bit of a secret to so many & Catherine, you have it right as to how precious it is !
Having grown up in WY and living in CO I think sometimes "why backpack elsewhere," but this summer we finally saw the Sierra Nevada. Wow! We did Rae lakes loop in Kings Canyon and explored the Yosemite wilderness. I'm definitely putting this trip that you filmed on my long list
Wow just beautiful! Thank you for taking us along.
Such incredible scenery! You do a fantastic job filming it. Love your backpacking videos the best. ❤❤
After a long day at work I love escaping with your hiking videos!! You keep adding places to my list that I have to visit! Thank you.
Love the vid. Thanks for taking us with you on these adventures
