  • Is this the most beautiful place in California?! This is a 3 night / 4 day backpacking trip in what I consider to be among the most beautiful places in the Eastern Sierra and even California for that matter. I'm joined by 3 of my friends as we start this adventure just a couple of days after the first snow of the season. It is absolutely stunning scenery from start to finish! Come along!

Majestic!!! God is THE greatest artist for sure.
Cat, this was fun!! The scenery of course took the center stage position but the group joking around & obvious love of the nature you all walked through made all fun & exciting.
I bought my first round of AG1, so as of today started that & with hughe determination will work on taking 60 pounds off my 59 year old body. My husband & I are outdoor peeps & I grew up at the lakes of the Midwest.
Love hiking, yaking (kayaking) & triking (our Harley 3 wheeler motorcycle in the mountains).
God is good & we are ready to get healthier & pull on the hiking boots again. Thanks for the inspiration Cat!

The first time I made this hike we went from Agnew Meadows to Devils Postpile. I had a crew of high adventure Boy Svouts in tow for four days. Many of them have come to me in that intervening 25 years and told me that single hike had set them on a lifetime of backpacking. Stunning beauty.

My brothers and I made 3 trips from Agnew Meadows, 2 that ended in Yosemite Valley and one that looped back and ended at Mammoth. All 3 passed Thousand Islands lake and I especially remember the first time I reached the outlet of Thousand Islands Lake......the scenery was the most incredible I'd ever laid eyes on. Those memories are still fresh 50 years later.

Nice photography of a favorite area! An alternate route with a little more mileage and elevation gain is to start from Agnew trailhead by going to Minaret lake, Cecile lake, and then descending to Iceberg and Ediza lakes. Descending from Cecile lake is the only section which entails rock scrambling instead of defined trails.
Generally, above 10,000' in the Sierra, and especially in highly trafficked areas (e.g. Ediza), campfires are permanently banned. Wood grows too slow and is too sparse to allow campfires.

Since my hikes took place while your parents were still holding hands - it's safe to say, we didn't have hand warmers (other than armpits and gloves)
      Warm feet, ment dry boots.
Even so, I loved my Christmas trips. 7 years I went with the same girl and have the best memories for them.
Charmain and I only took these trips, we never seen each other all year, never talked, never knew each other other than our Christmas's that we lived for.
Life moved on and so did we.

I hiked the same area with 4 friends one month earlier, from August 20th to 25th 2022. Much warmer, I'm sure. Seeing your video, Cat, was a great recap of the trails for me, both the beauty and the sore hip flexors at the end of each day. We didn't through hike. We made a base camp at Garnet Lake and took long day hikes out and around 1000 Island Lake and scrambled cross country into the pristine high country above those lakes. All amazing. Recommend!

Hiked to Shadow Lake a while back. Magnificent.
Was up in Bishop just a few days ago. Drove to Sabrina Lake - glorious color on the Aspens & had my coffee overlooking the Lake. #1 coffee spot in America LOL
Eastern Sierra is still a bit of a secret to so many & Catherine, you have it right as to how precious it is !

Having grown up in WY and living in CO I think sometimes "why backpack elsewhere," but this summer we finally saw the Sierra Nevada. Wow! We did Rae lakes loop in Kings Canyon and explored the Yosemite wilderness. I'm definitely putting this trip that you filmed on my long list
