All I want is a church involved in evangelism and making disciples. Even the missionary baptists will give money for foreign missions but won't even have a prison ministry! I do not know of any churches in my city that is involved in evangelism within the community. We give out food baskets but leave the soul to be lost. I am not looking for perfection. I am looking for the basics.

Some are a bit too compulsory & judgemental when they encounter new info, but truthfully YHWH has already told us to be at peace. Be not hasty. My belief is that the church as we once knew is transforming The exit is an entrance to something far more truthful and liberating. I’m a Dominican American who some would call black, and I for the life of me can not figure out how race can still be important when we are called to be one race under Christ. I feel like it comes up too much and so many put so much into it.
What needs to be understood is the way some ethnic groups have taught Christianity. 2nd, race( to an extent) is important but MORE IMPORTANTLY is the RESPONSIBILITY we ( of all ethnic groups)have once we receive the truth of gospel. We all must truly study God's Word to get the truth. "RACE" is only a section of discussion.

Paul had to send letters to tell folk to stop braggin about how much more advanced they were than everybody else cuz they could speak in tongues. That thing is still happening today. To say that one has to gain equity in the church before they could go to the WORD of God and ask that the WORD be heard over tradition... well... frankly, it is incorrect, inconsistent with the ways of God and simply wrong. How did Paul address that issue? He said ***I Speak in tongues more than any of you... shoot... why don't you aspire to prophesy or sumthin'... do somethin that edifies the church and not just yourselves...*** ^^^a lovely paraphrase^^^ I think we need to go to God and go to the Word on how to handle some of these things because the reality is... When people OUTSIDE the church come with criticisms of the church... YES, they come with the intent to criticize, open a wound and let it fester... and often those people are inaccurate... those are the people that come saying you don't need to tithe cuz it was for the levites and you don't need church cuz church wasn't a building in the bible. BUT.... When folks FROM the church come with criticisms or corrections, more often than not it is a plea that someone will HEAR them instead of dismissing them and to suggest that they don't have enough equity (whatever that is) to bring forth the Word of God that they have studied and rightly divided... that's no good. It goes against all that we know in The Word... Tradition is not a sin, but it is not God. Sometimes the voices of tradition can be MUCH louder than the voice of the Holy Spirit and when we allow the tradition of don't-speak-unless-spoken-to (or don't-speak-unless-you're-agreeing) to rule our hearts, we surely cannot say that we have not hardened our hearts to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

One thing that is concerning to me in church (black, white, whatever) is the gatekeeping and over-emphasis on leadership. Too many times the congregation is boxed out of conversations and having a voice. Equity was mentioned, and spiritual immaturity and arrogance can definitely inhibit someone’s ability to contribute wisely. However, there are many strong, mature, committed believers who don’t hold leadership roles, whose voices are kept at bay because they are not “leaders”. A nasty little secret in many black church’s is that the power structure is controlling and oppressive. A woke response is a natural and appropriate response to this kind of unbiblical leadership. That doesn’t mean “woke” folks are always right, but the questions are valid, and the answers cannot always come from those who hold power. The black church should never frame the “woke movement” as something negative. The woke movement is a legitimate movement of people who are questioning many toxic religious mainstays in the black church that have become acceptable in our modern times. Instead of ridiculing these people, see them as equals (yes they have a voice, they have equity)- engage them with respect and compassion, because unfortunately, many of the criticisms are quite valid.

TmanTroy because the truth that we all know is most likely orchestrated and structured for the black ear. "Jesus died on the cross" is a universal biblical truth that we all know however, how it's presented is key. The reason why certain truths need to be adjusted is because of culture, language, and even opposing views in said particular community. Black people usually cryout because being left out is the standard in general. You'll hear from any outlet that black folk are the cause of most problems, murders, thefts, etc. When it's not entirely the case. We will most likely hear commentary on how we need to do or form certain movements that will effect change in our black community but when something like this comes along, it's an issue. Being left out, isn't racism nor does it imply ill will. Trust me, it's all love. It's just she most likely has a plan or ministry that has been geared and crafted for the black community hitting on particular black issues.

Most reformed teachers will point out that the New Testament writers never quoted from the Apocryphal books, and that the Apocrypha was never considered part of the canonical Jewish scripture. However, the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox churches include the Apocrypha in their Bible (except for the books of Esdras and the Prayer of Manasseh).

Good synopsis, thanks! However as a Black Catholic I can tell you we do include the prayer of Manassas in the OT. The ancient and apostolic Christian churches-Western Catholic and Orthodox and the Churhc of the East all kept the original scriptures. Peace

I think I'm pretty knowledgeable in Christian history, if your statement was directed at Christianity borrowing from some other religions, it be interesting to know what? Worshipping on Sunday has it's foundation since the early Church in Acts. Furthermore, any day is a day of worship. "The Law" speaks of that through all the feasts and festivals God had ordained after the Exodus.

Unfortunately, despite integration, Sunday has been said to be one of the most segregated days of the week; meaning churches are still for the most part segregated by choice. So, by "black church" they mean churches with majority black members.

Why wouldn't you extend your ministry to everyone regardless of race?
TmanTroy there's nothing wrong with seeing a specific need and catering to it. He may end up spreading it. Who knows. He most likely sees a specific need or where they may be a lack in Apologetic teaching in the black community that he merely wants to put his foot into.

When you draw lines based on race, making race a priority, separating because of color....that is racism. What if white folk have truth that all can benefit all but choose to keep it with white only....the first thing out a black mouth is racism...so how do we get a pass but they don't?
TmanTroy because the truth that we all know is most likely orchestrated and structured for the black ear. "Jesus died on the cross" is a universal biblical truth that we all know however, how it's presented is key. The reason why certain truths need to be adjusted is because of culture, language, and even opposing views in said particular community.
Black people usually cryout because being left out is the standard in general. You'll hear from any outlet that black folk are the cause of most problems, murders, thefts, etc. When it's not entirely the case. We will most likely hear commentary on how we need to do or form certain movements that will effect change in our black community but when something like this comes along, it's an issue.
Being left out, isn't racism nor does it imply ill will.
Trust me, it's all love. It's just she most likely has a plan or ministry that has been geared and crafted for the black community hitting on particular black issues.
