They don’t actually make enough to pay tax because they are below the minimum income level to pay taxes. The changes Trump wants to make would decrease the minimum exemption meaning that people who aren’t paying taxes right now because they don’t make enough money will start paying taxes. Meanwhile hedge fund managers can turn around and claim part of their income as “tips” and then not have to pay taxes on up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I still remember 9 years later, I was watching Morning Joe before trump was elected in 2016, and he said that American salaries are too high and need to be comparable with China. Mika and Joe asked him what he was talking about, and he spouted some BS word salad but he was inferring we need to lower our salaries. It’s also disgusting that this “no tax on tips “ won’t actually help those low wage earners that rely on tips. They don’t actually make enough to pay tax because they are below the minimum income level to pay taxes. The changes Trump wants to make would decrease the minimum exemption meaning that people who aren’t paying taxes right now because they don’t make enough money will start paying taxes. Meanwhile hedge fund managers can turn around and claim part of their income as “tips” and then not have to pay taxes on up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Arguably the more important aspect of the "no taxes on tips" proposal is that tipped workers are not required to be paid the minimum wage. While the federal minimum wage is $7.25, the minimum cash wage for tipped employees is only $2.13; a handful of states exceed the federal minimum (some of them only just), but only six states plus Guam require employers to pay their tipped employees the full minimum wage in addition to tips. Every other state allows employers to underpay workers who receive tips. Offering tipped employees no taxes on their tips not only doesn't benefit the majority of them, but it also doesn't even pretend to address the real problem.
That's crazy that people get really low wages and have to make it up with tips. If a business can't afford to pay a living wage then it shouldn't be operating. Tips given in my country are given for good service, not to subsidise the business' payroll.

Without child labor laws children would become slaves, since they obviously cannot stand up to adult bosses. A reporter did a story a few years ago about a foster parent in a state with lax child labor laws who was making his foster children work and taking their wages. He was changing them rent and for food, with a large interest. He even showed the reporter his Talley notes on what they owed him, and she took a pic of it.
