When my mom graduated nursing school in the early 90s she got a job in a small town in Louisiana at a dialysis clinic. During recruiting the lady in charge met with both of us…then made sure to tell my mom not to worry because the job would pay for me to go to private school so I didn’t have to “mix with coloured kids”. At the time we lived in Toronto & I was at a school where I was one of 10 white kids. All my friends were different races because it was a low income community full of new comers. Needless to say I chose to stay in Canada & lived with my grandparents until my mom’s contract was up. I refused to participate in the structural racism there.

Thank you for helping to educate our citizens on the dangers of 2025 to our future as a democratic country. I personally as a woman do not want girls and women to go back to the 1800s where we had no autonomy and few rights. The religious right is to our country as the Taliban is to Afghanistan and Pakistan. It seeks to create a theocracy whose beliefs all citizens would have to follow by the laws they will introduce regardless of their religious beliefs.

I was a child of “white flight” horrible segregation. I lived in Oklahoma. Horrific. The fight continued thru junior high and high school. Our district was eventually divided into two areas. I can't imagine my father who has lived in the US since he was 16 years old, at the time with a dual citizenship (US and Philippines) who turned 74 literally today being deported. I have some American friends that are desperate to get out of the US. They are scared for their future. I am luckily not American. I feel sorry for Americans and hope my friends can get out and move to a truely democratic country.
I've been here since the middle of the last centur y. I remember when our education system was the best in the world. I remember when the people in Orange County CA didn't want to pay property taxes to educate other people's children. My response then was that I want to live with educated people. But Reagan passed Prop 13 and the rest is greedy people dumbing down America. I have to look harder and harder to find educated people. Having students take the ASVAB test is just a precursor to making military service compulsory. Of course it'll only be compulsory for pour kids. Those students whose families are wealthy enough will be able to buy them out of service.
