Hi Dustin, excellent review. You praised the rendering of the Canon RF 50mm 1.2 lens in your previous review. What are your thoughts on the rendering of the Sony 50 1.2 GM compared with Canon RF 50mm f/1.2? Thanks!
Thanks Dustin. I own the 1.4 and have rented the 1.2. I find the AF on the 1.2 better and also the contrast but not by much. I thought the 1.4 image quality was better on the A7RIV than the A1. It's a really close call between these two I think. The 1.2 is so sharp though and that bokeh is so dreamy.
Thanks Dustin, such a professional review again. I also saw your Voigtlander 50/2 APO Lantar review and wondering if you were forced to make a choice, which one would you pick and why?
Hello Dustin, great reviews as always. I just bought GM50 1.4 but 1.2 is always in my mind. One thing i didn't like with 1.4 is resolution at minimum focus distance, like taking head portraits, resolution drops significantly at F1.4 , it's nice at F2..., how about 50 1.2's resolutiong at minimum focus distance at F1.2? is it much lower and similar to 1.4 one? thanks for checking.
@@DustinAbbottTWI can i e-mail you some of my close up photos and have your opinion about them? if you think there's a problem, i'll change the lens. thanks.
Yeah Dustin if you remember me i was praising the 50 1.4 and still do but after buying the 50 1.2 i still love the Zeiss 50 1.4 but sold it. One of them had to go and i'm very happy with the Sony 50 1.2 like always great work love the fact I get to see some sony reviews the last few years.
Hello, thanks for great review. I bought mine 50mm 1.2 GM few days ago and I noticed some rattling noise inside the lens, almost like something is loose there when lens is not powered on, ether it’s on the camera or not. It happens when you rotate lens up and down. Once you power on the lens on the camera noise stops and lens works without issues. Have you noticed it on yours? My 85mm GM doesn’t make any noise when off the camera and not powered on. Please, let me know if it’s normal. I wish I had a chance to check another 50mm GM to compare. Thanks
I get that kind of question a lot. Many modern lenses utilize a "floating element" that allows for better performance up front. When the lens is powered on, that element stabilizes. It's a design element and not a flaw.
I was surprised to see little focus breathing compared to other reviews I've seen. I know the 35mm GM is particularly bad with the breathing. What's your experience?
Hi Pastor! I've been following your RUclips channel for a year now & I consider you as one of those few reliable channels when it comes to photography & gear. I'm really looking forward on your review of the new Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 soon. And how would it stack up with the current Tamron 28-200 which I currently own and the Sony 135mm GM. I would say it would be my deciding factor if I should get that lens or go with the Sony 135mm f1.8 GM instead.(please do a comparison 😁) Also, I've read that there will be a Sony 100mm f1.4 GM coming out soon. Do you have any thoughts about that one? Thank you & more power to your channel! Blessings!

That could be another video @dustinabbott
I would say that the GM is a bit sharper (and with lower CA), but the rendering is probably close. Both lenses were pretty special.
Is it worth it over the Sony FE 55mm f1.8 zeiss in regards Image quality?
I think so. I didn't find the rendering from the 55mm particularly special, while the GM lens is utterly special.

That won't be far off my findings.
Hello Dustin, I own the 135GM. Can you provide a comparison with image quality between the two? Thank you!
I'm afraid the loaner has already gone back to Sony. Sorry about that!
Thanks!
Honestly the lens hasn't left my camera since buying it. It's an absolute dream
Not surprising!
Do you find it too heavy for day to day use?

That's interesting, as my copy is quite good up close.

Great review Dustin. If it's as sharp as my 135mm GM it will be a magnificent addition to my kit.
It is a great companion to the 135GM

Glad it was helpful!
Amazing review, as always.
Thanks again!
Sony lenses always fascinates. Glad I am fan of thm since 2017
This one is definitely fascinating.

I had a hard time nailing that down. In some situations it seemed like there was some, but then not in others. I think it is moderate and not major.
Great review. Just one small thing- f1.2 is a half-stop brighter than f1.4.
That's true, though hard to measure when typically you measure exposure in half stops

Hi there, I think we covered your question elsewhere.
@@DustinAbbottTWI thank you sir!
robust review!
Thank you
Why is the video of such low quality?
It's very high quality 4K, actually. You might have seen it before the 4K version was available, though.
@@DustinAbbottTWII found out it was something else, my internet connection. My provider was experiencing some problems. I'm sorry.
1st Comment :D
That's because it really isn't available to the public yet.
buy this instead of 24-70mm f2.8 GM. much better!
It is a lovely lens.
