The imposing Sonata No. 29 in B-flat major, Op. 106 was published in Vienna by Artaria in 1819. Though all of Beethoven's final sonatas bore the inscription "für das Hammerklavier" (as opposed to the Italian "pianoforte"), it is to this one that the moniker has become especially attached. His longest and most demanding sonata, in terms of scale this work sits alongside the "Diabelli" Variations, the Missa Solemnis and the Ninth Symphony.
The Grammy award-winning pianist Daniel Barenboim has been active on the concert stage since the age of seven when he made his stage debut in his hometown of Buenos Aires. Well known for his work with the East-Western Divan Orchestra, a group of young Arab and Israeli musicians, he is currently the director of the Berlin State Opera, La Scala (Milan) and the Staatskapelle Berlin. Barenboim is described as "one of the few musicians in the world today who could accurately be describe as legendary".

Sublimely beautiful!! I am in awe of Daniel Barenboim's mastery...
Me encanta su interpretación. Es lenta y permite disfrutar todos los maravillosos compases de esta obra maestra...
I think he's the best at interpreting Beethoven's music 👌
yes realy
He is Beethoven
Yes , Barenboim is really great. But there are others who are as great .
Hard disagree. He's a dull pianist who is highly overrated
darn true
Großartig!
The 3rd mvt starts at 16:08 not at 29:06
Excelente interpretación!
Bravo 👏👏👏
If I could have a brain transplant, I'd like Barenboims brain !
Esecuzione eccezionale e insuperata!
What a match - the two B.
A great pianist on a small composer

I am sure the piano has to be re-tuned after 50:40 min playing by the master .

40:34 Fugue.
When was this performance?
(What does "At Palais Rasumofsky, Vienna, 1983-1984" mean? Why does it span the years?)
@@constantinosaspris Thank you.
Oh Maestro, what a wonderful performance. still Ashkenazy version is the best for me.
Will hear Ashkenazy now. Always liked Pollini and Richter too
you must be deaf. maybe Beethoven agrees :)
@@kinkokonko lolllll
I really like Gulda's interpretation.
this wasn’t actually dedicated to Haydn
Dem Erzherzog Rudolph von Österreich gewidmet.
16:10 sounds like Grigory Sokolov
Which of his compositions?
It sounds like Beethoven...
@@tarikeld11 sokolov its an interpreter. I think he said that sounds simmilar to the sokolov interpretation of this sonata

God he bangs horribly in the fugue. Artless playing. Barenboim doesn't have a good tone, tbh
So you don't like Barenboim, I think we all get that ! We'll agree to disagree.
@@user-nk2ni8ue5m he is a good pianist but highly overrated, probably due to decades of successful self promotion.
slow movement too slow
