I really like this idea of a third person game where the camera is controlled by an unseen cameraman and shot like a guerilla documentary. They could really do a lot with the idea; give a reason to why there's a camera guy (maybe he's a war documentarian, or doing a piece on gang warfare), splice in interview footage like in Mafia 3, give the cameraman some lines and make him a real character and it could be really special. In Kane and Lynch 2 it just seems like a superfluous aesthetic choice.
I have a soft spot for this game. While I admit it has it's flaws, I enjoyed the story for what it is and I appreciate games that has Chinese settings.
To be honest, while I like the series, the K&L games still had their rather important flaws. The series had rather great potential to be something amazing, but was unfortunately in the hands of mostly average, if not, mediocre developers that were certainly not up for the task. While the first game provided a great foundation to build up the franchise greatly, the sequel just didn't give it the boost that the franchise really needed to keep up. While I loved the aesthetics, sound design, voice acting, and intense action of Dog Days, I don't think it was enough to keep Kane and Lynch in the spotlight. The story/campaign was too short and lacked the depth of Dead Men, the gameplay was still rather bare bones, and there wasn't much expansion on Kane or Lynch as characters. It seemed more like the developers saw the success of Dead Men and thought that just a little tweaks and changes were enough instead of truly taking the time to improve greatly. While the reception to Dog Days played a part in the franchise going downhill, the developers definitely shouldn't get away scott free. Kane and Lynch was a series that was made with both passion and half assing it. Instead of truly putting in effort to improve with Kane and Lynch 3 and prove the critics wrong, it was instead tossed to the side. Hopefully, if we're lucky, the series may actually be picked up by passionate people and revived. One can only hope.
My gripe was its bare-bones gameplay, the visuals didn't bother me at all. I like both games, but prefer Dead Men because of its story & distinctive chapters. I too wish there was more to the arcade mode.
Personally I believe Kane & Lynch is an underrated series that deserves a 3rd installment but sadly with IO interactive and square enix splitting, it doesn't look good for the future of Kane & Lynch.
This is the definition of a guilty pleasure it isn’t amazing but it has a heart and has an idea that’s why I love it it’s not a churned out game and it has massive flaws but it just adds to it I think the thing that bothered me was it was originally 60 dollars but now on sale it’s like a dollar and beyond worth it but I also love the camera style crazy camera and all so you can take my opinion with that in mind
Finally someone understands my love for this game. And you didn't even mention how goddamn dark this storyline gets. There aren't a lot of third person shooters more mature than this one.
Outstanding review man, you see what I see in it! I think it's a highly under-rated 7th gen 3rd person shooter, I might have to get out my Xbox 360 port again soon as your profile got me all worked up to dive back in, it's so damn good & unique.
How?🤣Game is terribly buggy, shaky cam, ugly graphics, terribly written dumb characters whom its their own dumbass fault for getting into their situations, Terrible shooting where headshots dont do anything, Poorly designed boring levels, Terrible story and a bad ending that resolved nothing. Come on "so damn good and unique" that's comical 👌
Bought this for 3 bucks a few years back for ps3. Never got around to playing it but the arcade mode intrigues me, so i may play through it now. Great review as usual.
best review for this criminally underrated/misunderstood masterpiece. even the criticisms are constructive and not just "WOW THIS GAME SUCKS SHIT" good video!!
If you were to combine the storytelling of and crowd scenes in the first game with the better shooting and cool style of the second one, you would have a great game. Such a shame we never got that
It's a shame this game gets so much yet I loved both games and really want to see kane and lynch return. I always play kane and lynch with the max Payne games I don't know why but they compliment each other.
I love this game, I thought the effects were pretty cool (with steadycam enabled) and the online was so much fun. Especially being able to return as a cop if you get backstabbed
it was soooo bad and pretty much killed the whole franchise...the first one was good, the second one was perfect and The Devil's Cartel was really bad....it lacked everything that made the series famous in the first place
@@emulation2369 I never played the first two games in the series although I have all 3 now in my collection, I really enjoyed the levels & action in the 3rd one, very fun to me.
I got this game with Games with Gold for my Xbox 360 back in early 2018 I believe, I can't remember honestly. It was a blast, and since it was free, there were many people playing it online. Pretty much all modes were nice, I got to play them all one by one and I had tons of fun in each. I can see why people dislike this game, but I had way too much fun to say it's a bad game
I liked these games, especially this one's tone and style. A friend and I played through these co-op and had a ball. Sure they've got problems, but nothing co-op can't resolve.
The documentary style is cool and unique but sadly the gameplay is generic as it comes. It isn't terrrible but is super short, imagine spending $50 on this back in the day and then finishing it in 4 hours.
Kane and lynch 2 was the most punk rock third person shooter I've ever played and I think game devs would be doing us a service by taking queues from games like this
I honestly thought the story was pretty bad. The narrative seems thread bare, there's no room for character development when compared to the first game, there's no breathing room, in between chapters, the ending sucked, and I agree with the story being four hours. I think most remember when they think about the game is the naked and covered in cuts chapter. You can basically sum up the story as, "We got to get the fuck out of here!". Plus I thought the shooting was pretty weird. Not bad, but weird.
The problem most people had with the 1st Kane and Lynch was it was marketed as a spiritual succesor to a game called Freedom Fighters. And yet though FF was a wery well tought out squad based shooter with levels that were designed to be beatable with multiple branching paths, which had these tactical points that yoh had to discover and take over to made the level lot easier to beat over running around mindlesly guns blazing. And Kane and Lynch later levels in Hawanna were supposed to be built that way, but the publisher couldn't wait for never IO to finish the game and rushed it to be released with half finished levels in the second half. And everyone who has played Freedom Fighters can tell you that, cause those levels had same set pieces and the same squad based mechanics and atmosphere, but lacked the branching paths, tactical approach, the friendly AI, and a coherent paceing the former had. That's why peoole felt as like the game waa just a cheap cash grab that tried to sell only relying on the interesting anihero duo, and nothing more. And it could have easily been the best action game released that year...
Just a heads up, the game (Spec Ops the Line) does have a few different endings that vary depending your choices. Ultimately they don't amount to much, but you can get a different outcome.
I literally don't remember a single song from Kane & Lynch Dead Men but Kane & Lynch 2 Dog Days has this song which is a classic IMO. ruclips.net/video/NxBE9yAluCw/видео.html
"kane & Linch dog days" man thats like having a cellphone repair shop and calling it "alpha cell" or something like that, its for nothing but thats one dumb name for a videogame.
Enable steadicam to stop the shaky camera.
That was the first thing I did along with inverting my aiming.
I played this on console and had to do disable the effects because they were just too much.
but the effects are the best part. after the 25fps cinematic experience.
I didn't think it was that bad but I know that shakey cams make people feel nauseous
@Brupcat It doesn't disable all of the sickening effects.
As bad as people say this game is I cant help but like it, and that trailer is probably one of my favorites for game trailers.
Same, I had fun with it & fragile alliance was cool too.

ManlyChicken ye that would be a really cool idea maybe in the end of the game you could play as just the camera man
@@wsbulmer8301 it turns into an FPS for the last level
ManlyChicken ye or just normal third person and you have to like retrieve the camera footage so the game can start at all

I just bought the game for 0,99 euro. I love John Woo movies/action so I might find some enjoyment on this :)
this's one of best B games
its like a solid low budget action movie from 80's

I replayed this and it's an alright game. I do like how that era of gaming had really nasty criminal games.
This game is nowhere near as bad as people make it seem. It's one of my favorite third person shooters.
The Original Michael and Trevor.
I shall always remember this as the game that birthed the "4 HOURS!" meme.
I actually liked the visual effects, it was unique and set the tone of the game. You can turn it off. It was a huge plus for me, so I left it on.
In a review, it would be nice to see game footage recorded with full graphic settings (ex: shadows) on.
