The Aggressive Affection can also extend to Luffy, Ace, and Sabo. There's no doubt that the brothers love each other so so dearly and yet... they are so mean and violent to each other as children. But that violence doesn't stop them from loving one another. If Ace and Luffy didn't love each other then the whole Marineford arc wouldn't hold nearly as much weight as it does.

One of my favorite moments centered around love is when Brûlée tells her whole family that Katakuri was beaten by Luffy - in that moment, she is freeing him from the expectations he’s been held up to for decades. Instead of hating him, her understanding and kindness made Katakuri believe he needs to be perfect for his younger sibling as a way for atonement to the point he even hid half of his face to fit the idea of perfectness. When flambé or whatever that brat’s name showed her disappointment at his imperfectness rlly made me pissed because she went from an undesired simp to a a brat that truly belonged to the streets.

The entire Marineford arc is completely fueled by love. Luffy's quest to get to Ace is completely kick-started by the love of those around him, wether it was Boa's romantic infatuation or Bon Clay's deep friendship. The entire war is one caused by love, the sacrifice made by Ace's mom to delay his birth so that he lives, the Whitebeards' attempted rescue, Luffy's plan, hell even Garp's own dilemma is caused by the conflict between his ideals and his familia love for Ace. Sora taking the poison in hopes to keep her children human and not regretting it for a moment even as she withered away. Zeff cutting off his own leg and eating it just to make sure this kid had a fighting chance at survival and seeking out his dream. Luffy starving himself as a declaration of love and to show just how important Sanji is to him and the crew. Just the fact of Sanji being a chef shows how much he was shaped because he devotes himself so fully to the act of serving others. Man. I love Sanji so much

We also see how much it hurt him to stand by at Marineford when he had his heart felt conversation with Ace. Saying he had no sympathy for criminals, but for family he does. It's truly breathtaking how that moment captures everything One Piece is about.
Luffy defeats Enel, freeing the Shandians and Skypieans from the tyranny of a false god and bringing them freedom.
Luffy proves to Cricket that Skypiea exists, thus showing that dreams, things we think may be impossible, are real and are worth fighting for.
And it fulfills the 400 year long promise of Noland and Kalgara, whose wills are carried on by Wiper, Cricket and Nola. Their friendship and love for each other was strong that even 400 years later their promise to each other was fulfilled.

Many relationships/friendships die from the frozen climate of bottled emotions and withheld feelings, even if they are "negative" or unwanted feelings. Someone to bounce ALL feelings with on a two-way street is someone with whom you can have absolute undoubtful love with, platonic or romantic.

The love between Luffy and Shanks is so beautiful. Despite Luffy being a cheeky brat to Shanks and Shanks teasing Luffy, they have such a strong bond. They only knew each other for a year (and even then its implied that Shanks would still leave every now and then) yet Shanks considered Luffy basically a son and Luffy considered Shanks to be, arguably, the most important person in his life. That's why he treasures his strawhat so much.
Also, I don't just love Shanks sacrificing his arm for Luffy: I love the scenes after: Shanks thanking Luffy for standing up for him, telling him not to cry because "he's a man now!", telling Luffy that losing his arm was no big deal, swimming back with Luffy close to him and one arm while he's still bleeding (most likely what happened), everything Shanks did in that moment was for Luffy and his well being. And Luffy cries, knowing the gravity of the situation and not just crying on Shanks's behalf but because of his love for Shanks.

One Piece was the first series, that I watched as a kid, which did a really good job of showing that blood alone isn't what makes a family. No matter whether you look at the backstories of Nami, Sanji, Luffy, Law, the Whitebeard Pirates, etc., all of these backstories cover this topic so incredibly well. One of the main reasons why One Piece has become the most successful manga of all time over the years is simply the fact that, in addition to cool fights and well-written characters, Oda can simply excels at conveying emotions and even after more than 20 years still manages to write a story with so much heart.

Also it makes SO MUCH SENSE why Oda doesn't kill characters off as much as a lot of psychopaths seem to crave. I will never understand the death lust the fanbase has, it truly baffles me. I also don't subscribe to the idea that moments like that get ruined retroactively by revealing they're alive. It didn't change anything for in the moment, even when I realized they were alive I was more relieved than frustrated by it. I guess it's cause I love life so much.

Surprised you didn't mention Garp in the "aggressive love" section. I understand that maybe his style is so similar to Kureha's and Zeff's that maybe it didn't add much to the video, but I do think his inner conflict in Marineford as well as all the things he has done for Roger, Ace and Luffy (and presumably Dragon) over the years is worth a mention in this conversation.
    Great video, as always!

Franky's whole W7 arc was him fully regaining his love of ship-building and gaining a new understanding of what it is to be loved, and I feel like a big reason for tht was seeing how much the Strawhats cared for Robin. For Franky to see an actual human get treated like the Battle-Franky's that ended up causing his mentor's death, and then to see her receive such a strong outpouring of love fully demonstrated not only everything Tom taught him, but also probably showed him a whole new type of love that he never even knew existed. It's why I'm fully okay with his goofy cry after Robin's "I wanna live" moment because it's probably lowkey the exact moment he knew he'd join the strawhats if Luffy asked him to.

Great video got teary eyed on some parts. My favorite episode and the one that made me love one piece was episode 6, it's the episode with the dog and his owners pet store. I love it because when it's destroyed and chow chow is howling in sadness, luffy could see how much he loved not only the store but his former owner. It wasn't just about destroying someone's treasure, luffy got so upset because someone's only connection to loved one was ripped away from them

My favourite love related moment in One Piece has to be Pudding erasing Sanji’s memories.

Hey, wouldn't you know it - Italy is one of the first foreign markets where One Piece blew up in popularity when it arrived in 2001, and the Italian publication is two volumes behind Japan, with Volume 98 even setting sales records.
I guess your thought about "Italian love" kinda makes sense.
(also we just love pirate stories over here, one of Italy's most important modern authors, Emilio Salgari, wrote TWO series of action/adventure pirate novels, with the Tigers of Malaysia getting several adaptations)

Strongly agree One Piece is about LOVE. My favourite moments of love are Zoro putting himself in front of Kuma, not FOR Luffy, but FOR HIMSELF so that Luffy can go on, and then not letting Sanji put himself in front of Kuma. Bro loves Luffy and Sanji he couldn't risk either of them. Another favourite would be (it's not the biggest or grandest but,) when Luffy and Zoro reunite after Whole Cake, I wept seeing two fictional men hug and rejoice at their reunion 😢

To me, One Piece is actually therapeutic and I realise how weird that can seem with all the aggression and the perverted gags. Saying it here is probably ok though 🤪 we’re all in the same boat together. My goodness.
