    I almost bought a silver 996 just like yours a couple years ago. Pretty much 100% stock. The owner was in a Porsche club and kept it stock and reliable. Only problem is I could smell antifreeze and I knew those rat's nest of coolant pipes were starting to go. I did a bunch of research back then and I believe when you do the spark plugs it's best to do the Porsche OEM coil packs at the same time as they can short out once up to temperature. Check the factory manual. It's based off of mileage when to replace the coil packs. Good luck! I think you're getting close and your luck will turn for you 🔧🏁

    Maf system is for sure sensitive. Really should have changed out coils with spark plugs. Especially if they have a 996 part number instead of a 997 number. You may also have a nasty vacuum/boost leak. I've owned and maintained a 996tt for last 10 years and I still absolutely love it.

    I owned a 912 some 50 years ago. Basically a 911 body with a 4-cyl Super 90 engine. It was only 5 or 6 years old, low miles (around 15k or so) and fun to whip around. That being said, it was a Porsche - finicky and always needing "something". Valve adjustments every 4k miles, synch the carbs, plugs/points/cap...always something. There was a tech at my local dealer who did the work on it named Fritz and, yes, he was from the old country with the heavy accent and all. He'd scare me when he'd put a tire iron into the rear wheel assembly with the car in gear and up on the rack to twist the engine over cylinder by cylinder to do the valve adjustments. Never have had the desire for another Porsche over all the ensuing years.

    Tanner, you may have put the rotors on the wrong sides. The vanes don’t scoop the air from the outside of the rotor and feed to the center , they draw air from the center and “sling” to the outside of the rotor for better cooling.

    Sorry to hear about the 911 problems. I agree that a PPI is recommended, especially this car with non OEM parts and looks like it was used for tracking. Ah the power of hindsight. I don't have your car skills and initially wanted to buy a 996 and now glad I stuck with my 944 Turbo - it's much easier to work on. Still a super fun underrated track car with 50/50 weight distribution, and can LS swap it with stock 951 transmission, just saying :) Good luck. A solid wheel repair shop can fix out of round wheels. Most tire shops don't have the equipment and know-how. The MAF sensor you bought should have a one year warranty. Might be worth pursuing so you have an extra one on hand on when it goes out again.

    Also, lets get you into a BMW dawg, the natural progression is usually bmw to porsche, but I think you would probably like BMW life better in the end. e46 m3 if you want engine build content (rod bearings, vanos hub, valve adjustments, solid content there that needs revised and smeedia level walkthroughs) F80 if you want to be a bolt on boy and just have a reliable monster of a car. From an engineering perspective I think you would really like working on an f80, BMW did a REALLY good job at making the car serviceable, everything comes apart far easier than one would typically associate with BMW. As your subscribers, we need to guide you to the proper mix of unreliability to keep it interesting, but also content which will sustain viewership. As prices on the F8X platform are getting affordable to the masses the popularity in the platform is trending upwards, and there is starting to be a vaccum of content for the F8x platform as the traditional BMW bloggers are moving onto the G8x platforms to chase new views.

    • @Smeedia

      I’m not a big fan of the newer BMWs, an E46 or E36 is what I’d snag if I ever did get one. I can appreciate that the newer BMWs are fast and great cars. But they all just feel soulless to me. Same way I felt with the 22+ WRXs, great cars but they lack personality and soul 😭

    • @goodnaruk
      @goodnaruk 2 месяца назад

      @@Smeedia I can totally understand. I am an e46 m3 guy at heart, I've owned 2 and will own another, my car life has gone E46 m3, e36 M3, GD STi, e46 m3, GR STi, F80 m3, and lets face it, the f80 is the outlier of the bunch. I too thought it lacked some soul until i started living with it, and finally got it into some good back roads. Its soul is there, but its like a preppy family from the north east, you gotta look for its soul underneath the facade, and as a car it followed the king of soul, the e90 which was a tough act to follow. In a single car garage i couldnt ask for anything more, if it were a 2nd car in my situation then i'd definitely want an e chassis m3, any of them really. The electric steering everyone complained about? Mounds more feedback than the new gen cars. Compared to the new G8x the F8x has a lot more personality. Sad for the g8x really.
