:D the only skills you need are All the skills! :D haha im doing my part i only need programming and game design.Art,fx,animation and UI are covered. though im clueless about music composing.
I love that each of these skills are typically a 100$K plus a year job at a studio ... lets go solo devs we are worth at least 500$K a year according to my math :)
Really cool to see someone talking about FX, sound, and game feel. I have noticed that when I look at a game critically, these are the things I find myself going to to the most.
I think game design is so underrated and people really think thats easy. Im a game programmer for over 5 years now and I could program almost any game (the structure or the mechanics) and I started tons of indie projects myself. However, I always stuck at game design. Maybe its not that hard but it really takes a lot of time. There are so many things you have to consider like in game economics, the mechanic parameters like jump value or movement speed, level balancing and so much more. Once u change something it is really easy to break the whole game. Its not just "I want to make a rpg game in the ocean" or so
Everybody has their own skillset! Especially a solo developer like me. I'd be in heaven if I could just design a game and focus on innovative mechanics and amazing gameplay while having someone else implement it all for me! My design document for my current solo indie RoadHouse Manager is over 800 pages, 350,000 words. It has novel mechanics that have never been done before. Yet it pains me to have to make the UI, and stuff like character animation is a big weakness. I'm a functional programmer but probably have a 1/3rd the production speed of someone like you.
I used godot to uploaded my first game to the Pirate software game jam this month and I think I’m addicted to this process. I tried many times before and got discouraged but this time I stuck with it and wasn’t as hard as I thought.
Can't believe it has been 3 years now! I remember starting to follow you guys on YT at the beginning of your channel! It really puts things into perspective... I need to start doing more game dev... I could have been 3 years in by now if I kept on going when I found your channel. Geez, I feel bad thinking about that🙈

Number 6 for me would have been animation, I think in some cases it can really sell a look. Great list 👍

You don't need to master your game engine to make a game. Who can say they really master the game engine?

My daughters 10 and loves scratch too. I'm teaching her how to make mini games in scratch

coprolution
Am I first?
who cares
@bhuvneetsaggu4011 you seem to lol
you forgot a big one... ADVERTISING
It's about making games, not selling them .
I have always been really strong in game design but weak in code. It sucks to know exactly what your game needs but not be able to add it.
I hope will in the first 500 and thanks @sasquatchbgames for inspiring us
