Rooster Teeth employee here: We did not find out through social media. We had an all hands meeting along with an email. The company also did not shut down yesterday. Most all full time employees have 60 days as a wind down period. As sad as I am to lose this dream job, it has been a way better transition to unemployment than most other things I've seen in this industry. Much love to all my Rooster Teeth fam.

I wish our (the US) government would put at least half of the effort they put into banning TikTok to limiting what data can be tracked (through social media and smart devices) and sold/used. It is a major issue and TikTok is part of that issue but all the major platforms do it. I also don’t like that the US can effectively target any company that they don’t have some control over. Honestly, starting to ban applications from “foreign adversaries” can quickly turn into banning things from places they don’t agree with ideologically. It honestly feels very much like the CCP and their control over social media.

As an european I am honestly hyped about this move by america, as if it goes through then that will put pressure and motive on all other countries to do the same for facebook etc. It will clearly showcase to other nations that there are *"real"* "security concerns" about letting your citizens use those apps, even if your laws already ban the privacy violating stuff everyone knows they do anyway.

We take abuse and crap from the immediate world and don’t see a cent. And it doesn’t guarantee a full paying job or anything. You didn’t emphasize ENOUGH how absolutely cruel it is to abuse the people on the phones on Capitol Hill. I can't imagine the level of hate you guys got thrown at you working as unpaid interns for Capitol Hill. There should never be unpaid jobs that people have to work while still paying bills to live. Sadly it's just yet another way a capitalist society can force people to work for free or very little pay after the greedy lost slavery. It happens in jail too. Ppl there get paid pennies, yes actual pennies per hr, while trying to pay not only for the many things they need in jail that's not covered but also phone calls, envelopes, stamps, child support, and any money owed to the court or the victims. 16:29 "Going Postal" was the phrase that came to mind during this story, Phil. It was a REAL phenomenon back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Our US Vietnam veterans' military members suffer with no suppot. Right after the Vietnam War, the USPS hired thousands of Vietnam combat veterans, many of whom were dealing with war trauma and undiagnosed PTSD.

You're talking about psychological trauma, PTSD, here. These studies were about physical damage to the brain tissues of servicemen exposed to close-range explosives. The Maine shooter never saw active duty, but he DID train people to use grenades for a few years. Those constant close-range explosives essentially vibrated his brain tissues so much they started to break apart.

My major in college was Environmental Science and a minor in Environmental Engineering. One of the projects I had to to was researching the importance of sharks on the environment and turns out, they’re super freaking important! A huge amount of CO2 emissions are absorbed by the ocean, more specifically ocean plant life and plankton. Much like the wolves, in Yellowstone, sharks help keep the fish populations in balance. Without sharks, the fish populations will grow and over consume the plankton that helps absorb emissions. Since corporations lobby so hard and campaign so hard to put the responsibility of reducing emissions to off set their pollution, we need all the help we can get. Trees are important, but wild predators are just as important.

This actually made me think of something, if true then imo it’s really sinister. I wonder if the push for trees to be seen as the symbol as what helps keep our air and planet clean helped contribute to the neglect of the ocean. Because amongst the general public it’s seems they are incredibly ignorant to how vital its survival is to our own. I’m just wondering if there’s a correlation there. I actually might take time out of my day to see what I can find. I just don’t know when because university keeps me tired and busy.

It’s wild because when I was in university doing my environmental science and ecology degree, we talked in depth about shark fin soup and its effects the food web through the decline in shark populations. It reminds me of when they hunted wolves out of Yellowstone park, and then the ecosystem went to shit. Top predators are incredibly important to the ecosystem as they help control populations of smaller predators and herbivores who if left unchecked will throw plant populations out of whack. It’s crazy to be seeing the effects that we talked about before become so much more apparent.

It's kind of mind-blowing that so many people still see sharks through the lens of a movie released in 1978. I just wrote a kids book on sharks focusing on the most current research and so much of it is about discovering/confirming that sharks have friends, personalities etc. And yeah, they are absolutely essential to healthy oceans aka a healthy planet. There are some great organizations out there working to protect sharks. But you (and that recent study) flagged something vital - shark finning gets most of the oxygen but there are so many other, bigger threats - including general over-fishing, bycatch, and all the damage we're doing to the oceans. But based on media reports you'd think the only threats are finning and a couple of ingenious orcas who are snacking on 'em in South Africa... Thanks for sharing.

As a conservation ecologist we talk about this a ton, and big shows like yours highlighting this and other ecological disaster issues makes sure they get seen by so many more people. For anyone curious about trying shark meat, it contains way higher levels of mercury than other fishes sold at the supermarket due to the fact that they are a top predator and all the mercury from the fish they ate accumulates in their body. Eating it enough can noticeably raise blood mercury levels in humans. Leave them in the ocean where they belong!

Firstly, this is not a social media ban as they said in the article, it's essentially a forced sell off (to stop any form of Chinese influence)
The thing with social media is that it's one of the most crucial things to controlling the views of the people... I think that leaving that in the hands of someone that wants to do america harm is a pretty glaring issue
Any other country i might not be so concerned about... but China specifically has a level of control over EVERY company based in China, in which the government has the power to shut them down instantly if they do not comply, that it's terrifying and i would never feel comfortable leaving that much control over the public's perception in their hands and nothing more than their word that they aren't gonna use it to effectively mettle in things like elections and other seriously critical public interests
Fixing the economy would be great, but this is a matter of national security

I became a vegetarian 11 years ago, and when I said I wasn't going to have meat, including shark fin, at my wedding (I was engaged), my family was furious. In Asian cultures, the wedding isn't for the couple getting married; it's for their parents. You invite all family and friends and friends of your parents you don't even know! But my partner at the time was also vegetarian, and that was a choice we made together for ethical reasons, and some of my family was PROTESTING MY WEDDING because of the lack of meat. For reference, not just shark fin, but all meat is part of the 9 or 12 course meal, each representing something different, like wealth, good fortune, and longevity. For reasons unrelated to shark fin soup, that engagement died faster than these endangered hammerheads.

As far as Emily Helm's comment in Yesterday Today, I can confirm that builders and contractors are, as a whole, NOT your friend.
When I first bought my house, it needed the foundation & floor of the back room to be replaced. Why? Because the original builder cut corners, making it genuinely unsafe and unstable.
I hired a contractor. Despite an inspector from the city coming by, the contractor cut so many corners that it needs to be rebuilt AGAIN 5 years later. On top of that, the shoddy work they did has negatively impacted the rest of the house. Basically, I went from needing a $10k repair job 5 years ago to needing a $40k repair job now. And I can't even sue the contractor for what they did. 🤬
Don't make my mistake: hire your own independent inspector to make sure your builder/contractor isn't cutting corners!

Hey Phil, I just want to share some anecdotal evidence as to why you should be interested in low-flow shower heads especially. My fiancée and I are renting out of an old house with a tankless water heater, and for the first two years that we lived here we would have to wait a solid ten to fifteen minutes before each shower just to get the water up to temp, but even then we'd only have about seven solid minutes of hot water before the cycle repeated.
My fiancée eventually got fed up with the terrible hot water situation and replaced our shower head with a low-flow head off of amazon that must have cost like fifteen bucks. Good lord has that thing been a life changer. Not only do we have hot water consistently in our shower now, not only does it take less than a minute for our water to heat up these days, but the shower pressure is stronger than ever.
Turns out that flow rate doesn't necessarily correlate to water pressure. Go figure.

100% agree with Phil, I need my water pressure. My showers get MUCH longer if I don't have enough pressure, because I can't get clean... heck even after the longer shower, I'm still not really clean, I will try to conserve water in every other way I can, but I need plenty of water pressure for showering, and admittedly, washing my hands, but I'm pretty quick with that one. Also most American toilets waste SOOOO much water, coming from Australia and spending time traveling and living in the US, it's wild to see how much water most of your toilets use, and that you always have to use a "full" flush. We use less water for a full flush, and we have a "half" flush button, for when you don't need as much flushing.

As a teacher, hearing about the ban on Tiktok is music to my ears. That platform has rotted the brains of my students. When I say numerous students are mindlessly and horrendously addicted to the platform, I truly mean it. They cannot get off the app. They will ask for passes to the bathroom to go into the hallway and do TikTok dances and things of that nature. They will spend no less than 6-10 hours per day scrolling around TikTok as well. Recently, one of my seniors did a project looking at peoples posts and views on TikTok and some of the numbers she saw were just flat out horrifying. The addiction to social media is real and TikTok capitalizes on it in a way that is quite scary.
