    Hey everyone - thanks for watching! Hope you don’t mind the honest outpouring, but I thought I would share with you all so you have more context on what goes on behind each video that you see each week 👊🏼
    With that in mind, let me know in the comments below if you’re interested in more day-to-day/business/life content - as I’m conscious that it may just sometimes seem as if all I do is train…
    (Which, sadly, is certainly not the case 😂)

    Fergus mate fully resonated with what you experienced. I’ve had many years of MH and have struggled with SH in the past.
    Since I took up some kind of strength training last year I now do some form of Run/Walk training for ParkRun. It’s finding something I enjoy I know I’ve found it now 👍 I have cerebral palsy so am limited at what I can do but certainly doesn’t stop me from doing things that I’m passionate about. This gives me a sense of well-being and achievement at the end. Goal is around 10 parkruns before the end of year. Take care mate 😉 always enjoy the videos you put out! 🙏

    Felt burnt out pretty badly lately too and kinda crashed and burned last week, that's on me for not addressing it earlier ! Taking some days off next week to reassess and plan things out for the months to come. I need to get back on top of nutrition, training and more importantly taking care of myself and spending time with friends and family. When any of those feels off, all of them suffer a little and you end up completely out of balance, take care off yourselves people, love from France.

    Thank you so much for being so candid and for setting such a great example of what it really means to care for yourself. I've been truly suffering with depression for 15 years, but I've recently been stuck in the scariest state I've been in yet-one in which I couldn't even imagine doing everything I needed to do to just live a "functional" life. Getting up, cooking and eating several meals, cleaning, getting a job, going to work, it all just felt completely out of reach. I especially couldn't imagine managing the amount of things I would need to do to thrive beyond the bare minimum, like finding any energy for enjoyment and caring for myself in a way that required the most effort but would yield the highest reward (my own wellbeing). For over a year, I watched other youtubers live their lives and do so many things, like cooking nice meals and sending out thank you cards and thoughtful gifts and going on trips and doing consistent workouts and working toward demanding goals and making the most of their short time on earth, and I felt so alienated, like this could never be me. I felt like something had broken in me, forever, never to be pieced together again. Watching this video, I cried. Watching you, I really feel like this could be me one day, in my own way. Like I could make it through and finally live the way I've wanted to for so long. I hope you continue to recover and find joy in your daily life again. I'll be following along and trying my best too:)

      Thank you so much for sharing this - even more so in a public forum, well done! The bottom line is we can't do everything, and no one person's context is comparable to another, hence why trying to measure ourselves against others can so often lead to feelings like the ones you've referenced.
      I recommend (based on my recent personal experience) that you map out the day to day priorities, get them nailed for a few weeks and then start to add things from there - that way you're building from the ground up rather than from the top down, which can too often feel intensely overwhelming!

    Fergus, Thank You. Heartfelt. Your brutal honesty about your mental health is both inspiring and reassuring. The mental health aspect of your content was the main reason why i am here. Since subscribing and watching as much of your back catalogue as possible. You are that rarity of a Man that wears your heart and soul not only on your sleeve but in full view to everyone. As i have said i am [considerably] older than you and suffered from depression and mental health issues for decades. And yes its an ongoing 'thing'. Something i have learned to live with and like You recognise when things are not as they should be. Like You a reset is required, back to the drawing board and realising what really matters. Outdoors is a must and [corny it may sound] but being in touch with nature. I could go on! And on! Lots of outside what is deemed 'normal'. That said i have friends and co-workers, many younger [and ''Macho''] than me and i know that sometimes my brutal honesty about my 'black dog' and issues can leave them 'jaw-dropped''. Yet it is so important to discuss these matters in a frank and open way like You have done that can only help and support. Thank You Fergus, incredible 'stuff', insight and wisdom from You. And yes 'sh*t happens and we learn to deal with it. It is vital 'men' open up and talk and resolve issues. Take care Big Man. Deeply appreciated by many.

    I guess that's the price we pay for modern living. A lot of old infectious diseases have been done alway with but mental stress and toil just adds up as longer life span, higher living density and more peers to keep up with, just keep piling the pressure on! However, there are more ways available to help us cope. It's good that you have the experience to start spotting the warning signs earlier and manoeuvre yourself from spiraling. We live and learn. I find it helpful to have good friends to have heart to heart with. Also need to set aside the time to connect within yourself and God to be still and refresh. Professional help is also very useful and more easily accessible nowadays. Find someone empathetic and encouraging, it can be very cathetic. This is a marathon and let's all help each other to carry on. Definitely painful but we can still enjoy the company and aid along the way!

    Really appreciate the candor. I'm on the upside of this slightly. At least know why keep relapsing. Training while still important isn't what used to be. Understand when said what gives joy less joyful is because of something unrelated. Think it's because that hole in me is expanding when ignoring the problem. Definitely have to re-calibrate my brain. Mindfulness helps. When feel that depression and like a pos just sit for a moment and acknowledge that. Then do something positive or productive. Sometimes feel better. Watching this video reminder not truly alone. Thanks brother. Despite the external world think at least we can make ours a little better.

    • @ferguscrawley95
      @ferguscrawley95  2 года назад +3

      Couldn’t disagree more I’m afraid - finite amount of time, finite amount of output = those doing what they’re passionate about are significantly more likely to burn out to to an ongoing desire to do more, which isn’t sustainable = burn out.
      Look at top athletes, top authors, to academics, top founders, loving parents even - countless examples of burnout/self destruction/depression/declines in mental health.
      Politely, suggesting that my personal reflections on my own situation (informed by years of working closely with/alongside experts in this field) is ‘BS lad’, and saying it with such conviction, is an alarmingly ignorant comment to make.
      If I was the sort of person to take insult - I’d likely go off on one here, but all I’ll do is urge you to reconsider your position as it sounds like you could very easily perpetuate some of the negative stigma(s) that may lead others to feel uncomfortable discussing their mental health - which can have catastrophic consequences.
