I'm relatively new to the gardening gig, so my statement may seem odd, but the dill you used - it looked like fluffy grass. I always remember dill having a fan-like spread with seeds on the ends of little stem-like prongs. the dill you used reminds me of some fennel I saw at a farmer's market.
Mike, this isn't about canning, but could you recommend what type of plastic covering I should get for my hoop house which is similar to yours. Thickness, clear vs white, who to purchase it from, etc.? This summer I used a 50% shade cloth but want to cover with plastic year round.
I get my plastic from greenhousemegastore.com What I use is a 55% shade white plastic. I chose that plastic for rhododendrons but it turned out to work perfectly for any plants I grow under it. Also helps cut down on the heat in the the summer time.
It was great seeing your wife and daughters work together in the kitchen, but Mike... since I didn't see you helping with the canning part I'm assuming that you're the official taste tester? LOL By the way I loved the video!
It's minced garlic we put on top just to get more garlic flavor. She boils the jars for 10 minutes, I just added that to the recipe down below. Thanks for mentioning that!
THANKS, MIKE AND SHELLIE: ENJOYED THIS VIDEO. IT SO GOOD TO SEE THE KIDS GETTING INVOLVED IN THE PRESERVING METHODS THAT I KNEW FROM MY GRANDPARENTS. I'M GONNA MAKE THEM--UNFORTUNATELY, THE BEANS WILL BE COMING FROM THE GROCER OR I MIGHT FIND A FARMERS MARKET. CARMINE P.
Oh yeah, and we love them! Unfortunately, my wife had to make them while I was at work this year so I didn't get a chance to film it but they sure do taste great. I think she's made 14 jars already.
❤ Watching your family videos....How sweet to see the girls helping Mom with the Dilly Beans !! You both have 2 cute young ladies there...Never heard of Dilly Beans... I know they are string beans as we call them up North...But, where did the Dilly Bean name come from is that because of the dill in the recipe?? Can't wait to try this Dilly Bean recipes out...Thanks Shellie, the Girls, and you too Mike🌱... Looking forward to more of your recipes Shellie and Girls.... . .
Thanks for the wonderful comment! Yes, they're called dilly beans because of the dill. This recipe came from the Ball canning book, in fact, many of our recipes started from there and sometimes we change little things here and there over the years. This is a great recipe and our kids love them.
Awesome video. Loved seeing the whole family involved. Best canning video ever. Hope to try these recipes next year when we start vegetables.
It's so good to know you're eating your own home grown food all winter. You guys should do it.

You're right, it doesn't look like home grown garden dill and it isn't. We had to buy this dill at the store because ours wasn't finished in time.

Is there sugar in the brine? Looks delicious! Thanks
No sugar. I added the recipe in the comments.
What is the processing time in the water bath canner? Music is great, kids involved super 😃
Thanks, Sandy, all the details are in the description. The processing time is 10 minutes.
Thank you 💕
love the music to
They look delicious. Your kids are so great helping mom can. Was that horseradish put on top!!?? Thanks for sharing
We always put a spoonful of chopped garlic on top as well as the fresh cloves.
What did you sprinkle at the top of the jars? Mustard seeds?
It was already in the liquid, minced garlic.
Good Job Mike! You didn’t get busted this time!! 😂
Wife was at work and kids were in school, haha.
What was the white granules that you added on the top?
Minced garlic. We add minced and whole garlic for more flavor.
Mike Kincaid Thanks! I saw garlic on the ingredient list but also saw you put a clove in the bottom so I was confused. Thanks for the clarification.

Definitely the taste tester!
Awesome! Your girls are so cute! I see they put down pieces of garlic but what is on top? Minced garlic? How long does your wife boil them for?

Thanks Mike! Have a great week! Good night!

Great video, does your family ever make bread and butter pickles?
Oh yeah, and we love them! Unfortunately, my wife had to make them while I was at work this year so I didn't get a chance to film it but they sure do taste great. I think she's made 14 jars already.
