    Great content showing the struggles of learning. After 40yrs of fishing the west coast i would like to offer some advice. James was "high sticking" his rod and it broke. Google that one. Second thing, and i see a lot of new fishermen doing this, is the drag on the reel is your friend. Set your drag to the weight of the line before you send down the bait. Rule of thumb is 1/3 of the breaking strain of the main line. 15kg line then 5kg drag. If in a sharky area then 50%. That will stop you pulling hooks, breaking leaders that are a bit worn etc. An easy way to do this is fill a bucket with 5l of water (5kg). tie the line on and set the drag to just picking it up.

    Bit of advice for beacon bashing.
    Use slugs and spin as fast as you can for mackerel on a running tide.
    Running ball sinker rig to a swivel and pilly as a bait technique.
    Remember fresh bait is good bait ;)
    Cheers

    At least you managed to get a good fish, I'm surprised you didn't send the young buck to dive in looking for the pot.
    Have a ripper you guys!

    Greetings from north Florida! I finally got a little center console boat in December and have a big learning curve ahead of me in these waters. Regardless, being on the salt is always a win.

    Try trawling across the shipping lane just after the big boats go past. Will be more fish there after what the big boats prop stirs up mate 👍

    Don't tighten drag when you get a good fish. You where not even close to have been spooled. Nice vids 👌

    slightly off topic, what make etc is your hat? we don't have anything like that in England but looks great for keeping the sun off your neck

      The hat "type" is called a legionnaires hat. I purchased them from a local fishing store - I don't think it's branded... Yes, it is comfortable and good for sun protection. Cheers :)

    Are there any fresh water to fish around you

    • @selfsuffishingme
      @selfsuffishingme  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes there are a few dams and also rivers. I grew up fishing in fresh water with billy tea over a campfire beside a river. However, these days I do prefer saltwater fishing because the fish are bigger, tastier, and the open expanses of water is beautiful to experience. Cheers :)
