Excellent video tutorial. Being an instrument tech and electrician, I can't fault your workmanship in the slightest. Well done, I will use this video as a guide to build my first quad.
Thank you so much for taking the time and walking us through the complete build of a 250 racing drone! many props to your production style.... You go above and beyond the typical RUclips instructional video.... it's apparent how much pre- production planning went into your video's. I learned a great amount of information from you. I am a subscriber and a fan of yours, keep up the great work.
Many thanks for your detailed videos on the construction and preliminary setting up process for this quad. As a complete beginner though, I was very confused by the use of so many acronyms and abbreviations!
Loved the serie! This video is perfect for beginners like me who are new to building their own drone.
Very informative video! Thank you very much for taking the time and sharing. I just started with a $50 and $130 drone to learn the basics, and look forward to taking the next step soon with these videos.
Best how-to video I've seen yet and I can't wait to get started now, so thank you! :)
Wow this video series has been loads of help! I tip my cap to you bud.
this is a great video. I just bought a Q4 nano quad to mess around with and this has me wanting a proper quad. Better get saving!
Great tutorial, many thanks. I've been reading up on how to build my first but your videos are just perfect and answered many questions I still had. Thanks again!
Very informative video, helped me build my first 250 quadcopter almost a year ago now! cheers @flightclub
Perfect timing. Going to start my EMAX build.
Truly awesome video. Thank you for taking the time to do the start to finish!
this is absolutely brilliant! such a clean and thorough build and guide! THANKS SO MUCH!
Brilliant video. Thanks. I'd say it's answered everything I wanted to know. Including part one
Really great video, very detailed assembly instructions and a nice performing drone. Thank you for that!
+Adam Judis thanks!
Thanks for the build, i am going to follow your build. However just a question, what is the range and the flight time of this configuration?. Do you know what else would be required to make it fly for a longer range.
This video is really great! This help me a lot when build my first time FPV. Thanks a ton!
+Feer Dhauze you're welcome, glad I could help :)
+Feer Dhauze What frame did you use? I'm just at that moment rigth now and need some information to take better decisions!
Hi Juan, I use Emax Nighthawk 250 frame.
Superb video, thanks! I will be building based off your instructions.
big help in building my first quad. thanks
Excellent set of tutorials. However I realise it's 1 year later but a few links are dead. Any chance you can refresh them to be current?
Thanks!
Awesome video, i love the details and information you put into the video. Byfar the best quadcopter build video out there. I was hoping you could do a more detailed video about the software and tune of the quadcopter. Also what would be your recommendation for a radio transmitter for $100 and under?
REALLY EXCELLENT video. Thank you.
Very nice tuto, thanks
What kind of battery do I need ?
Thanks for taking the time to do this video, it is most helpful. Is it easier to ask questions here or on your site? I'm looking to build my first quad.
"and the next thing you know, you got blood splattered everywhere" HHAHA... its funny because I just cut my hand up in a phantom and needed stiches
You should make some butter mounts for this quad!!
These videos have been great thanks!
+KC Abramson you're welcome!
Thanks ! Very Thanks for your 2 videos. Without them i thank i had lost many many hours ... I have a question, Do you know why Beeper is beeping when a push the Throwttle hard ? Battery Alert Security issue ? ESC problem ? Thanks !
Hi, Really like your video tutorial and have a question. I have the Taranis (non-plus version) and the DR4-II receiver. In order for me to get PPM out of the Taranis, I have to navigate to screen 2 'Model Set-up', select the 'External RF' (the DJT Module) then, I can select 'PPM'. I've noticed in your video that you simply select the D8 mode using the 'Internal RF' and state that it is in PPM mode? I've checked the Taranis manual and it only talks about PPM being available with an 'external' module. Could you clarify? Thanks very much and keep up the good work. Your are inspirational.
For the fail safe, can the throttle be set to a lower speed instead of a total shutdown? Maybe so the quad does not fall out of the sky but instead have a controlled descend all the way to the ground without crashing. Falling uncontrolled out of the sky onto someone's head would be bad.
I don't suppose there is some kind of parachute module that the fail safe could deploy?
Awesome build! :)
I can't believe you ran it into a tree at the end!! :-/ WTF?
+Dude31463 I build better than I fly...haha
+FlightClub You most certainly do... HA! :)
Great video, very informative.
Thank you for your help. CG.
Hey, I got two setups and I want your advice ok here goes: both my frames weight 2.3 kg, the first setup is 900kv motors with 30amp esc and 9x4 propellers can u suggest which Lipo should I use and also state that can I use 4000mah 4s Lipo with it.... The second setup is 2200kv motors with 40amp turnigy esc and 9x4 props no which Lipo should I use with this setup.... Note props in both setup are carbonfiber props... Thanku in advance :)
good job! you should check out final glide hes really good
Awesome video! Thanks!
Hey, Great Video! PLEASE TELL ME YOUR PIDS!!!! And you're rates!! I just built a HK 250 Pocket Foldable quad and its finding its locked in status. Thanks m8!
your videos are awesome....thanks
Great help. Sorry but i just got a few questions not sure if you covered them in this video and missed it. What do you need/do to be able to see your battery voltage through your googles?
what L-C filter are you using?
Thanks again.
Tom Smith to get the battery voltage to show in your goggles you need some kind of OSD (on screen display) setup on your quad. I used this one and love it: tinyurl.com/llyn4sc it has a built in LC filter for your FPV and you can tune your PIDs from your goggles and remote.
This is the LC filter I used in this build: tinyurl.com/l9uwnto
FlightClub Just finished my first build. I pretty much built the same as this, your videos and website made it really easy to follow and also got some great tips that I wouldn't of thought of otherwise. When are you doing a PID tuning video? Thanks
thanks! the PID tuning post is coming soon when it stops raining here. it rained like 4 weeks straight, huh???
FlightClub Thats sucks, where about you from? I'm in England i haven't been able to fly mine in some nice calm weather yet it's been windy.
I appreciate the time it takes to put these videos together and are a massive help. I have got some general questions also if you don't mind answering them.
What are the differences between using 5” and 6” props? from what i have read seems the pitch affects the thrust and will give you more speed?
Sometimes if i drop the power to land say things are going a little wrong when i then go to apply the throttle to take off again it doesn't seem to do anything then i will turn transmitter and quad off and back on and it will work perfectly fine. Do you know what this i?
I adjusted the roll and pitch like you mentioned in the end of the video but to me from visual sight looks larger than i imagined it to be like say 1m circumference if you understand me ? i thought it might of been a little tighter than that? ( I did this In PID tuning column on the right where it says roll rate 0.6, pitch rate 0.6, yaw rate 0.75)
Also i Seen your new post on your website would you recommend using clean flight and oneshot instead of base flight? i understand base flight works fine but wondering if i would be better off keeping up with the latest technology? haha
Also struggling to move around keeping just a foot of height from the floor without keep tapping the floor as i make throttle adjustments. Will this just come with experience or should i change some settings? or different setup for this style of flying ?
I know that's a lot to ask, but thanks for the help you have already given me.
Tom Smith 6" props will give you much more thrust than 5". pitch also, when you see props like 5030, 5045, 6030, that 30 and 45 means the pitch.
the throttle issue could be because your battery is too low to give you any thrust.
the PID tuning has so many factors it would take forever to answer here. I've got a post/video on PID tuning coming. the weather has finally cleared up here.
the cleanflight/oneshot option is only if you are running BlHeli on your esc's. I feel like it makes the quad fly much more locked in and responsive.
they hovering a foot off the ground will come with practice. when i first started i couldn't finish a battery without crashing and breaking something. damn frustrating in the beginning but when you finally fly a full battery without crashing is a great feeling, haha!
excellent video
I am using the same board with the kiss 18 A esc. the kiss esc doesn't have a positive wire with the ground and signal wire to power the naze 32 as you are showing. how would I power the F/C from the PDB. my PDB has a 5V step down built or will the 12V be fine to use?
What brand is the fpv transmitter and camera? I want to get the same one. It's hard for me to understand what you said when you mention the brand of camera transmitter and camera in this video. Thanks
I have one question, what is one about (Video Transmitter, Spironet Antenna,
FatShark Dominator V2) is another alternative to the image of reception
via monitor? If yes please advise
Am I okay using the flysky i6 instead of taranis? what is the pros and cons? Thanks a lot!
hello bro nice video congratulations
On the configuration page you had a item selection chart?? I do not see that in my clean flight configuration? I am using the latest build and its now June 2015
I'm up to the part on the receiver page. My taranis is bound, I am in PPM, but none of the sticks are responding in Baseflight. If I disable PPM, the throttle stick responds, but that's it. What's the problem?? Help!
Hi
I'm using the fr Sky x8r connected the same way..do I need the jumper plug on that too? The green light on x8r receiver is green (binding complete) but I can't get any motor movement pushing the Taranis sticks thanks
I just bought a Cheerson CX-10 (a toy I know, but we gotta start somewhere right) just to introduce me to the world of Quadcopters, and i've been watching vidos basically non-stop for a few days now on them. Question. The beeper that you added. is that so you can find it when you crash it? With that control board on the Quad, how many things are you able to attach to it. like lets say one wants to pimp it out with led lights that mimic police lights, how many of these mods are possible?
***** yup i started with a Hubsan X4 and got addicted! with the Naze32 and cleanflight, you can attach an RGB led strip and make it do all sorts of crazy things.
yes the beeper has dual purposes, discovery buzzer when you crash in say some tall grass and low battery warning.
where did you get the buzzer? Having trouble finding a non rx one
WOW right off a tree.... :O
I have a Turnigy 5ch Transmitter and receiver I was just wondering do I need any software to hook up the quad to? and is there any coding needed? or do I just bind the transmitter to the receiver and thats all?
Also what type of usb did u use?
What PID settings do you have?
can anyone reccomend which frame would be the best choice? X frame or those bigger ones(T frame?)?
Hey there are there any cheaper transmitter's that are about equal I'm getting into quad copters and I dont have the money for a $250 transmitter?
my esc's have two wires black and white which one is the signal ? and how I'm using the naze32 Rev 5 6dof board any info would help tons thanks .
Best video
hi I have the same kit and this is my first ever build I'm just wondering can any1 help please ive just bought the tarnius plus and it come with the x8r receiver instead of the d4r2 is the receiver setup the same as with the d4r2 all wires ect and do u use the jumper pin the same would be really greatfull 4 any help as I would like to get my build started any pics or vids please I just don't want to spend more money on a d4r2 as ive got the x8r and seems pointless downgrading really looking forward to getting into this hobbie just want to get my head round it befor I start it thanks in advanced people
is this a good starter kit? i wanna build one to put a go pro session on it. how fast can it go? and what is the maximum altitude it can rich?
+FlightClub
hi i have watched your videos and im having a problem, the motors are not working. i have every thing, recevier(is bonded) once i hooked up with baseflight and tried to test the motors it didnt work please help.
Hi I need some help pleasee, How can I clean up blheli and betaflight all data to start again doing all on betaflight?
i come to the point when i configure quad via Cleanflight.
config and Recever tab worked fine but when i come to test MOTORS tab and change individual motors bars (or master bar) motors not responding. naze32 connected to computer via USB and waud connected to LIPO and receiver binded and works ok (checked on Receiver tab) but mototrs do not spin - just beeping sounds when i move bar up and down.
could you help me please?
How do you calibrate other ESC's? i saw hobby king as a programmer but i am not sure if its only for hobby king ESC's and mine don't have a BEC so i cant power the programmer.
hey,so good to talk to you..... pls can u make a video on how to set the flight mode switch settings and stabilization settings with cc3d for qav250 .... its a request and its up to you to do it. Thank you for all your help and may god bless you.
hi i have watched your videos and im having a problem, the motors are not working. i have every thing, recevier(is bonded) once i hooked up with baseflight and tried to test the motors it didnt work please help.
May I know the total cost for this build? I'm a complete beginner and still have so much to learn but I'm very interested in building a fpv quadcopter. Thanks for your help!
Joe Nguyen anyway from $150-300. depending where you get your parts and the type of parts you are using.
Did u put a jumper wire across channel 3 and 4 on the d4r-ii?
FlightClub That worked! I took the jumper off after setting the failsafe. Thanks a million
I was wondering if you can do mail in builds? I have everything but flight controller and osd. Thanks
I want a couple really nice ones like these but can I just get them RTF? Are there some high end kits all ready to go or can I hire you to build a setup for me?
+SUPERDELL Schanze I do have RTF custom QAV250's on my site: fpv-flightclub.com/product/custom-qav250/
+FlightClub What's the top speed and how much to get about 2 mile range or more? Also what's the duration? Can you get 15 minutes or more like a DJI?
is it a company?or else?these parts are available everywhere?basically Bangladesh.....or where i get it?
Where can we get the filter and what is his function?
if I have a 3.7v system does it matter what mah I use? for instance it's a 3.7v 650mah can I use a 3.7 1200mah battery?
awesome end :D
what FPV L/C Filter are you using???
im confused where do you put the battery on the drone?
which is the wire that connects to quadcopter.
thank´s man! totally liked your video (Y)
we can use raspberry pi 2 in quardcopter plzz tell.?
WAIT.....You never said how to get the camera.....can you please tell me what camera u showed so i know which one to get? Thanks!
same
info about your google glass pls.
can we charge the battery we had used .if we can than how
Always put an antenna to vtx otherwise you might fry it. Maybe you did but from video is not very obvious for the beginner.
Claudiu Farcas thanks Claudiu. I should have included that in the video.
hay i saw this video and i have a x-4 bodie its 700g can you help me chose parts? or at least make sure they are satisfactory?
I was thinking of putting in a 5000mah battery for longer flight time and fpv capabilities. I do not need GPS or any of the special features like return to home. I was thinking 4 FM2216-11 900kv Multi-Rotor Motor (Lumenier). Although i need a good suggestion for ESC (the more reliable the better, also like ready to go out of the box). Also is a naze 32 board a good choice. Thanks. Also i am not looking to do stunts or anything just stable flight and long/ longer flight time.
+henry tingle 5kmah battery is way too big for a FPV race quad. most people don't use anything bigger than 2200mah. also 900kv motors are made for swinging big 8" props. these quads don't use props bigger than 6". you need 2000 - 2300kv motors.
looks like you're better off getting something like a phantom. they have flight times of around 25 min.
so with ppm system you only use one cable for the 8 channels? wow!
+pierre jean yes sir!
do you need an antenna for the reciever or will the reciever work by itself?
Garage BandGuy not sure what you are asking. most receivers come attached with the antenna. you probably won't get much range without the antenna.
wat googles do you usually use
Can i put the go pro on the drone
While you are set up the remote the computer screen is block the remote screen !
Hello, as you record the video of the flight? where it is stored?, thx.
+Franz_81 i think he mentioned it in the 1st part that the video can be stored on an sd card that goes into the goggles
hi, could I use a JR XG7 DMSS m/RG611B 6ch transmitter instead of the FrSky Taranis X9D?
andreas Killingberg yes
can such unit lift up 550gr or weight?
just curious if I could hook up sony nex 5 on this thing. Or maybe i'd need something bigger? thanks
Oleg G this is a racing quad and can carry up to a GoPro. you'll need a bigger multi rotor to carry a camera like that.
thank you:)
Can this quad fly fast?
How much cost your Quadcopter?
What is the flight time?
The software which u are using to programme your quad can be used for any quad or only for your quad
akshat modi Baseflight is used to program any quad using a Naze32 flight controller.
Ok thanks
So according to you which of these three is better for quadcopter racing: cc3d,naza32,multiwii
I've never used multiwii so I don't know about it. But I have used CC3D and Naze32. I think the Naze32 flies better, has more features, cheaper and is easier to setup/tune.
Ok thanks
Is it fast?
How/When would you install a 5V Voltage Regulator BEC 3A. Thanks
Arthur Miller What do you the the 5V for? Naze or Camera?
FlightClub On the website for the kit it says," This package is constantly improving\evolving. It is now 4S capable (recommend 5" props for 4S). In order to make the package 4S capable we went with no BEC ESCs as it's recommended you use a dedicated BEC when moving up to 4S power. As a result you will need a BEC or custom PDB to power your flight controller and accessories. We have a number of options here". As I understand it it is for the flight controller and everything on the PDB
Arthur Miller this might not be the cheapest option but I use this on my other quad and love it. it has a 5V regulated output for the naze32, OSD, and built in LC filter for the FPV power supply.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V1O14PO/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00V1O14PO&linkCode=as2&tag=fpvflightclub-20&linkId=NAR2B3BQM34WM6PC
FlightClub I am looking for something much cheaper and think this would be enough for me: www.massiverc.com/PrestaShop/en/597-5v-voltage-regulator-bec-3a.html . The question is where would I attach this? To the PDB?
Arthur Miller yes, the input would connect to the PDB or battery.
hi whats a good fpv camera
+aaron evans just started a new build cheers
is it possible to connect an android phone to this setup?
Yes, using Bluetooth. There are Bluetooth receivers so you can control it via your phone. I think's most people don't use it because it doesn't have a lot of range and is laggy.
Awsome! :)
You didn't put the antenna
