Scotland should vote NO! Why vote against a union which has given us, and the world so much? One of the wealthiest nations on earth, UN security council permanant member, leading member of the EU (part of the EU-3: United Kingdom, Germany, France), member of the G8, leading member of NATO (most powerful military alliance in the world) and second most powerful nation after the United States. Why would you want to leave a nation of such economic and milatary power? Scotland may be a part of the United Kingdom but they will never again be a part of the greater part of the great United Kingdom we all take for granted.

Great Speech Gordon! A passionate Scot! And that is exactly why I'm voting no on September 18th. Because I am not only a proud scot but I am a proud British citizen as we'll!
when Cameron speaks while moving his arms and increasing the volume, doesn't create any extra feeling, it's just normal, but when Gordon does it you know he really means what he's saying, which makes it powerful
Given how many waverers there were and how close (yeah, a 10 percent gap, but how many of us weren't expecting a larger gap before the campaign started?) the vote turned out Gordon Brown's speech deserves recognition and could well be called the speech that saved the union.
What a legend. He saved us from economic ruin during the global financial crisis caused by the US banking industry, and he saved the Union as seen above. Here's a tip. Just because I think it's dumb to paint a huge number of people as supporting one political position, doesn't mean I'm painting them as block that support a different position. The soldiers in these wars fought for a whole lot of different reasons, and had a wide range of political positions. But it is exactly because they couldn't find enough people prepared to sacrifice their lives that they had to force though conscription.
I take it you dont realise that within the forces to be called a "scrip" was a insult - it meant you were only there by force and thus a coward. There is one reason why all the men fought and that was to smash fascism before it spread to their front door. Ironic that the Yes voters are now employing the same tactics of threats, bullying and Nationalist bigotry on those very doorsteps today - blaming the English instead of Jews for all their problems.
BerkyBoy Well when refusing to fight for something you don't want to die for would literally have you shot. There wasn't really any choice. Which is kinda a threat and a bit coercive.
BerkyBoy Westminster ≠ England. We love English people, we hate Westminster. Watch us beat them then follow suit. Comparing people to Nazis helps no ones cause.
I'd take this over Salmond's lies and distortions, Scots. The union isn't exactly repressive as portrayed and we, the English, aren't responsible for imagined problems to real ones. Love ya, we've done so much as the UK and hope it isn't separated now to much disadvantage.
This is just superb. Full credit to Gordon Brown - United we stand, divided we fall. Proud to be Scottish, Proud to be British and Proud to be European.
I lived through two referendums in Quebec- Canada. I remember Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's speech in 1980 and Quebec Liberal Leader and later Premier Jean Charest's in 1995. They made the difference. Gordon Brown just did the same thing, bottom of the ninth, two outs, full count and three runs downs, and Mr Brown hits grand slam home run.
Having been born in Wales, lived in England too, with relatives from England, Ireland and Scotland, I know about differences and the passions that they stoke. But now, having lived in China for 9 years, I can safely say that the beliefs and values that unite the different parts of the UK are much greater than the differences. The UK, and thus by definition Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland, may have been diminishing in the world. But let's fight back together so that Great Britain moves forward together to regain its standing in the world. It's only by staying together that every part of the UK can remain important in a changing world.
So true and nicely said. We're a country that emphasises diversity and difference, from class to accent to education - we love to pigeon-hole everyone and everything, and the nearer you are to it, the greater the differences seem. Being away enables you to see the this parochialism for what it is. A 'yes' from Scotland is the end of Britain, but may well be the end of all four nations having any kind of power or influence on any international stage.
Still can't believe how like Lightning out of a cloudless sky this speech was. Gordon Brown speeches before this one were soooo dull and boring and, although No would have won, he was the man in the moment who gave people a reason.
+Goldie Dee If you to ignore the reality of what the referendum would of done to the economy because "muh independenzzz" then leave politics for adults
Goldie Dee So instead of doing that, you should evaluate finances leaving and entering from it and explain where the SNP's funding hole would ever be filled, and how it'd effect jobs from multinational companies after Scotland losing the pound, but you can't.
Genuinely inspirational talk advocating co-operation between nations. This should have been said much earlier in the campaign. Makes Cameron look decidely second rate.
Always came across as an intelligent, decent man with passion, he was chained by Blair and his legacy at times but here he really shone through, bravo and here's hoping he runs to become the next Scottish Labour leader.
The yes campaign don't deal in facts or figures. Just hopes and dreams. And hopes and dreams won't put food on the table or secure a better future for you, your family and generations to come. Salmond has had years to pefect policy and plan for the future. He and the yes campaign have spectacularly failed in that regard. Vote no.
It gave me goosebumps and I'm not even Scottish. Who would have though that serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom will probably be considered his second biggest Achievement behind saving the union. A career defining speech.
wow these comments. Gordon did a great job shame it didn't come earlier all the facts are there Scotland is better in the Union and the UK is better with Scotland!
The best reason for voting no, is a reason that shamefully Labour will not mention. For as with an independent Scotland, the Conservative party would have a much greater share of seats in future UK general elections. As the remainder of the UK shifts more and more to the right, Scotland will also have to shift to the right, in order to compete and keep big business within their borders. They won't have their own politics, they'll be pressured to assimilate the politics of the remainder of the UK. I'm all for further Devolution, I've campaigned for a Cornish assembly, however voting yes tomorrow will be a grave mistake for the Scottish people.

I'm no fan of his, but this is one of the great speeches in modern British political history
He may not have been the best PM, but this was a brilliant speech.
Fantastic speech! Well done Gordon!
Here here! Unity is the way forward, not division.
If the was this passionate and animated when he was an MP he may have won an election!!
A speech of passion from a misunderstood man of passion. Bring him back as leader of all of Britain
Ed Milliband - this is how its done. Step aside for the man!
Still can't believe how like Lightning out of a cloudless sky this speech was.
Gordon Brown speeches before this one were soooo dull and boring and, although No would have won, he was the man in the moment who gave people a reason.
+Tim Patmore Aye he gave folk plenty reasons to vote for the SNP toots. x :)
+Goldie Dee If you to ignore the reality of what the referendum would of done to the economy because "muh independenzzz" then leave politics for adults
***** Mind only a complete moron would use UK figures for a year to judge an independent Scotland's economy. x :P
Goldie Dee So instead of doing that, you should evaluate finances leaving and entering from it and explain where the SNP's funding hole would ever be filled, and how it'd effect jobs from multinational companies after Scotland losing the pound, but you can't.
***** So you are basing your assumptions on UK figures for a year, what a dafty. x :P
Brilliant speech. Get the nationalists telt, Gordon! What unites us is much greater than what divides us.
Genuinely inspirational talk advocating co-operation between nations. This should have been said much earlier in the campaign. Makes Cameron look decidely second rate.
U Better Believe It
Stay united, vote NO!
Awesome. Vote NO you brave Scots, don't be bamboozled by Salmond's selfish ambitions.
Towering performance, Gordon Brown's finest moment perhaps, so right.
I'm so glad the Scots voted to stay with us, from an Anglo welshie.
Such passion! Just want Labour needs. He ought to run for the leadership of the Party.
Glorious speech; I am proud of you Gordon. I am proud to be British with my Scottish brothers and sisters! We are a family!
Fantastic speech Gordon. Thanks for your service in preserving the United Kingdom and thank you to the Scottish people for voting NO
Why anyone would vote yes after hearing this is beyond me! Makes you proud to be British and Scottish
Vote no.
Congratulation to Scottish people and all of the English people .
Fantastic speech - "The silent majority are silent no more" :-)
It gave me goosebumps and I'm not even Scottish.
Best speech by any UK politician for at least 20 years. Fire in the belly, a real tour de force.
Superb. Great speech that provides the perfect argent to vote no. Better together!!!
A British Prime Minister, a proud Scotsman and a Unionist!
ONE UNITED KINGDOM
The best reason for voting no, is a reason that shamefully Labour will not mention.
For as with an independent Scotland, the Conservative party would have a much greater share of seats in future UK general elections. As the remainder of the UK shifts more and more to the right, Scotland will also have to shift to the right, in order to compete and keep big business within their borders. They won't have their own politics, they'll be pressured to assimilate the politics of the remainder of the UK.
I'm all for further Devolution, I've campaigned for a Cornish assembly, however voting yes tomorrow will be a grave mistake for the Scottish people.
Rock and roll Gordon. I take it all back, we love you. Johnny English
