    I love watching your videos Tony. You have such a great relaxed style of presentation that just works. Simple, uncomplicated explanations of what you’re doing and why, not afraid to try new stuff, it makes me think I could have a go at doing some of this stuff as well. Cheers mate.

      Thanks Chris. I really appreciate your comments. You should absolutely have a go at this! Get yourself some cheap plants and have a play, but beware, it's addictive once you get started.

      Yeah, it's great just wandering around seeing if we can find something special. Glad you enjoyed the longer format. I always think people might get bored when they start going over 20 minutes.

    Some really nice big, bold chops there Tony. Thanks for sharing your thinking processes. Well done mate. I think your mystery plant may be a Hypericum (St. John's Wort) that has yellow flowers following the red/pink berries. Looking forward to part 2. 👍👍

    Best price - free! You might forget a price but you never forget free. Just had my most expensive tree, a ginko for £15. Very happy with it and already wired into an interesting shape. I am enjoying sharing your adventures.

    I love your honesty and down to earth style, I also love looking around nurseries for all my projects but they are getting expensive, however I did discover that online this time of year (winter) you can get some really good cheap trees bare root and for me, relatively new into creating bonsai seriously, and being on a budget, it's the best alternative to buying it from nurseries. I inherited 12 Japanese Maples in the ground in my new property which were some 15 feet tall, over time I am bringing them down smaller and creating more from air layering, turning them into larger bonsai's. I am learning a lot from your channel, as well as Mr Chan's on Herons Bonsai, two of my favs now! New subbie from South Yorks :)

    Hi Tony if you look on the aps store there are aps that you point at the foliage and it will identify the species. Good luck with the plants into bonsai, they are not traditional bonsai type tree but so what you like them.

    • @TonysBonsai
      @TonysBonsai  2 года назад

      Good idea with the app Joe. I know they wont all work in the end, but who knows, one of them might turn out to work really well as a bonsai, and if not I can just enjoy them as plants.

    There’s a couple of Japanese maples at a local garden centre with multi trunks and fantastic nebari/radial roots but the plants are £50 garden trees. I’m tempted… would make amazing bonsai with some work.
    On the other hand B&Q diy stores are selling off their maple stock, some for £1 each. Worth checking out… I grabbed a handful to retry making a kabudachi/clump style and an Orange Dream maple to substitute in for one which has died in one of my forests.

    • @TonysBonsai
      @TonysBonsai  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, those mature maples are so tempting. I'm like you Jason in that I really have to hold myself back otherwise I'll end up with as many trees as Xavier!

      I try not to spend too much on plants / trees. But two autumns ago I found two fabulous maples in a garden centre, the prices seemed far lower than I expected and I bit the bullet and bought them. (£170 for the pair). I knew I'd never afford, or feeling comfortable paying for a big mature maple from a bonsai nursery so they will be my 'special' trees within a few years of work on them.
