After watching this video do you feel ready to respectfully and professionally resign?
Absolutely!!! Thanks for the help. I’m switching companies for a new job that is throwing bags of money at me 🤭🤑
I know you said that having the conversation with the boss/manager is essential to quitting, but in the event of a bad or toxic boss, would it be equally as acceptable to leave your notice with Human Resources?
Technically I’m ready. Emotionally I’m a mess! 😬
Hopefully I will be ready for this soon. Still waiting on the final offer. The sad part is that the VP is on my side even if my supervisor and manager are not. He will be the only one blindsided. The others should be overjoyed. The customers also will be a little hurt. Especially when my manager kills the work I spent my career there developing. I don't really have fantasies of telling off anyone, but as bitter as it sounds, I do wish I could pull the after hours email. I won't, and never could. But that's as close as I get to having cruel fantasies. It makes you look bad to future employers.
I am going to struggle with this one. My manager is going on vacation for 2.5 weeks. The VP that is on my side will be filling in for my manager. The new company recommends waiting to resign until the pre-employment requirements are completed. That should be while the manager is on vacation. I will do it in person. But I do feel like the timing is going to be perceived as poorer than just coincidence. The process started weeks ago. He announced his vacation on the same day I signed the new offer. The perception is going to be that I waited until he was gone. I will have to deal with that, but I am not going to wait longer just for him.
2:25 "Remember [your resignation] is not about respecting them, it's about respecting yourself." Gold...
And respecting yourself is respecting your health
I think it's absolute b.s. that we have to provide 2 weeks notice to quit but employers don't have to give us notice to fire/lay off/terminate us on the spot
In most places you don’t have to provide any notice at all when you quit a job. Just be sure you haven’t signed an agreement to stay for any length of time. Usually because the company paid for college tuition or training and the employee agrees to work for a certain period of time after they’re out of school.
Just because you don’t have to, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give notice though. You look way more professional, it looks better to a prospective employer and you could possibly get rehired if you do give notice.
Life is not always fair, play the game, cooperate to graduate and Drive On, Never Stop.
It was a lot different 40-50 years ago, In the current world, I would be willing to say that a lot of people simply ghost a job......BTW that means leaving without telling anyone
@Uncle Simp Well Professionalism that is Major League and Disciplined can PUT GD anything on one's table dude.
If they can terminate you with no notice you can leave with no notice! A guy that I worked with turned in his 2 weeks resignation because he had found another and the company/ managers were so rotten to the core they fired him just so it would go on his record that they dismissed him not the other way around.
I agree that it is best to leave on a high note, but not necessarily to write about how wonderful the company is--when you're leaving a toxic environment.
AGREE TOXIC ENVIRONMENT w/my boss & monster brother..what a bad expirience
Exactly. Those going on linked in and praising their abusers is sickening and unnecessary.
Maybe you can emphasize things you liked about the job without actually praising the company? The toxic period for lasted for about a month each year when I was forced to work with another company that I didn't want to work for; I was the only one in the company forced to do it year after year and they abused me year after year and no matter how well I did at my job, no matter what extra work I took on, no matter my seniority and no matter how many times I suggested it was time for them to find someone else to do it, they refused to stop doing it to me. So the only way I could get that other company out of my life was to quit my year-round job.
Suz you sound like me !
It's mostly just stating your leaving, I just do the thankyou for the experience and the great people I've met along the way, your not stating them in any of that, just the company and job as a whole, I've just applied for a new job, had enough, like she sais use a template
If you are in a toxic workplace, you can quit without notice in a respectful way. Just draft your resignation letter, keep it short and simple, hand it over to boss, don’t show any emotion. And leave.
Working on that scenario now.
@@brightspacebabe how’d it go?
Love it! I completely agree 👍
That is literally not even close to quitting in a respectful way. You're not only screwing over your boss, you're screwing over your work mates that will now take on extra work without any smooth transition. You might as well have just sent a text saying "I quit lol".
@@pearlsswine sometimes that's what they deserve
I daydream all the time about giving my notice - which is why I'm watching these videos...as much as I detest my current supervisor - I don't want to make a mistake in how I leave.
gratitude won't be something I offer - but anger won't be either...I'll be too happy when it happens.
I gave my resignation today. I tried to have a meeting at the end of the day, but she had to leave and told me to just call her. No one took me seriously when I tried to talk to them. I eventually told the shift lead in private and she was very understanding about my reasons for leaving. She was actually sad about it. I'm gonna miss my old team, but it's time to move on.
Sounds like the boss or manager took it personal. Not professional
I also had a similar situation where my boss couldn't take a couple mins for an unschedule meeting, so I clicked "send" lol ;D Good riddance!
Send a text and said Adios live Más
Said that they wont do anything about losing good employees
I get why you should leave on good terms, but I'm sick of shutting my mouth about incompetence on the managers. I would like just for once to be able to respectfully tell them why I think they're not doing a good job and that their toxic behaviour is why Im resigning. If my boss already doesnt like me despite me being a good employee and talks behind my back to coworkers, what will stop them from giving a bad reference even if I do everything gracefully? you can be as correct as you want, but at the end they still have the power to make things up and trash-talk you anyway... infuriating
Good news, I quit and respectfully told my boss why they aren’t doing a good job. I feel so much better now 🤗
Exactly!
True I did this and they lied and said I was a trouble maker and put me on the no re hire list
If your boss doesn't like you, it's probably because you're not a good employee. Your comment is very indicative of someone that takes things way too personally.
@@pearlsswine Not true literally almost every employee at my job dislikes my Gm. She is so rude and insensitive to her employees.
Thank you for your helpful insight, I'm putting in my resignation tomorrow..
Congrats! How did it go, Jon?
Surprisingly well actually. It pays to be respectful especially when leaving a job. Thanks again for the help!
How many of you have quit without another job lined up? My job is so stressful I honestly am not capable of finding another during. I also work in a job where I look like hell by the end of the day as it's very physical. Job interviews after working means I would NOT get the job. I hope quitting without a backup means I find something soon without succumbing to another toxic work environment. Only time will tell.
I’m going to quit today without a job lined up. I did have two interviews recently but whether or not I get a call back I’m leaving I’m just so scared to tell my boss I quit I’m staring at my screen scared I finally am at the point where I’m ready to quit but scared to tell my boss I do have a bit of savings it’s not much but it should hold me for a little bit. Sometimes in the storm we must leave to find our way it will encourage us to not give up I hope you can quit 🙏🏾
I quit without another job lined up. I lived off of my last four paychecks. It wasn’t fun and it was stressful during that time. With gods grace I got another job but it’s a temporary job and at least a few paychecks till I actually find something more stable. I would recommend having another job lined up so you won’t get put in a stressful situation. Just look around for jobs as you work. Something is always bound to pop up!
@@rruta645 I feel this advice, but my last job was so mentally and physically draining that looking while working was impossible. I needed weekends to do household things and relax so I could go back to work with my sanity. I don’t recommend quitting without something lined up unless it hurts your health to stay, and only if you can financially afford to. I have savings and it’s dwindling fast.
Every job I ever had I quit without having another one lined up. I'm about to do the same here soon! Although I am young and have no financial burdens. It's easy when you're not in debt.
There's nothing that makes me smile more than walking out of a place for the last time, with a bit of $$$ saved up, and a reliable vehicle! Especially if it was a crappy job with crappy boses. I enjoy myself. Drive around. Do some sight seeing. Be with family and friends. The feeling of having some money and no time restraints whatsoever is arguably the greatest feeling on earth.
How did it go for you? I assume you've already moved on, and got another job? What did you do? What do you do now? Hope you are well!! 😁
@@lukeswain1752 I was a teacher assistant for 7 years and it was hell with bad pay and getting moved job departments when ppl quit. I got a job as a receptionist while I figure out long term career goals. I can say I don’t have a clue now after Covid. There was too much pressure to have long term goals for career before 2020, and most ppl I know are just making a paycheck at this point, even with college degrees. School kind of failed most people unless they are a doctor, lawyer, in IT. But yeah I think quitting without having something lined up means I’m motivated to find the right thing. I’m one of those ppl who if I have a job I will make excuses to find a job and then never do it. Finding a job is a full time job at this point and it took me 3 months to find the right one.
A friend made resignation letter and the boss said I won't accept this, my friend said, you don't need to I just came to submit it from my side
Giving feedback of a monster boss/lead is pointless. At the end of the days they’ll believe them before you. HR will always believe them. I’ve been at my current job for years! I’ve yet to see a supervisor get fired or reprimanded for any negative actions.
There are supervisors that have had multiple employees quit bcus of them and nothing ever happens.
It’s really sad.
This is so true where I work!!!
People don't quit their jobs, they quit their managers.
Truth. Corporations are authoritarian institutions, not democratic ones. You have no rights and are allowed no opinion even about your own character. They make you into whatever they can use against you.
Happening here
Truth!
I am a month into my new job and I want to quit. I wanted to quit after the first day. A week ago, the general manager walked out and left us in a really bad spot. This is the first time I've ever experienced a manager, let alone the top manager, walk out on the job. The whole place is extremely short-staffed. The morale is non-existent. There's finger-pointing, criticism, and animosity between the employees. Everyone is exhausted and burnt out. I was not properly trained, and so sometimes I make mistakes out of ignorance, and I'm usually ridiculed for it by my coworkers. This is at a nursing home, so there is a part of me that feels this moral obligation to stay for the elderly people. I am at a loss at what to do.
Most of us working in these places have all the same issues!
Always do what is best for you. If a company terminates/lays you off, it is a business decision. Same for you. Someone will take your place
Your happiness is the most important thing in the world.
Sameeee like the first day I wasn’t excited 🥺 I’m in dietary and it’s horrible I don’t think it’s for me tbh
I'm 4 months in, I have tried to look at all the positives, talk it out, 2 months in I knew it wasn't going to happen. I'm ready to go
I agree about telling the boss off. My satisfaction came from watching his facial expressions while reading my resignation letter. I considered it one of life’s little pleasures. Hearing my former manager and co-workers slag me after I left was disappointing. I was accountable and hard working which took a lot of the burden off of him but to hear he was let go due to performance some time later just proved why leaving was the best thing.
I understand what your saying but don't waste your time being disappointed in cowardly butt kissing co-workers. They are the same ones that after a team meeting will say " you expressed everything I was thinking" ...."I was just about to say the same thing"....."boy their lucky I didnt get started I was gonna....blah blah blah ". There were only 3 of us out of 20 that would address the lies or problems created by local management when it was needed. After years and years of the same scenario, I finally started telling the cowards to STFU when they would come to me afterwords with " I was gonna" BS.
It's sad when you coworkers think negatively towards you
To be honest I love the people I work with but after 9 years I’m ready to move on. I felt like I was already in the frame of mind (wanting to keep it on the down low). Guess this gave me the reassurance I needed
As we know the best time to quit is when it would be most inconvenient for the employer for you to quit.
No one knew I was quitting until I didnt show up
Lol
Yes burn the bridge 🌉 crispy than fried chicken
I texted my boss that I wasn't coming in and that I resign....he demanded that I drop off my resignation letter on his desk. I texted him im not coming in the office and that I would email him...then the next day, when i still haven't emailed the letter, he says the director, (she's a woman) needed the letter so I needed to send it to HIM. I didn't respond and instead emailed the director herself.
That was brutal lol
Hilarious

My resignation meeting is in an hour. It's time!
How do you ask your boss like do you tell them “I need to have a meeting about my resignation”
How did it go???
Any update on how it went how are you now ?
Good luck.😂
I had a real bad experience with a fucker boss who made me quit just because I wanted to pursue higher studies and now I became his esteemed client. Karma's a real deal.
It's always a bad exp. I have made years of experience making the worst career choices 😂 it's hard to take any company seriously after my last exp.
When are u terminating the contract? Why still give him business
@@daysofourlives3982 that would be a mercy on him. The real torture is by giving the contract and punishing everyday.
So when I quit my one job I just finished my shift and never came back I texted my boss and let him know and then blocked everybody’s number I certainly didn’t waste any time writing a letter of resignation. Because they treated me like poop I did not give them any notice. Quitting is not that hard you just need to make sure you’re gonna be financially OK and that you have another job and then you can just do it it’s not like they give you two weeks notice when they fire you.
I just became a First time Quitter during my career. I voluntary terminated myself when I went to my bosses office and explained I am terminating myself. I worked and adapted to a highly toxic co-worker environment from Day 1 but rode it out until I hit a brick wall mentally. I never experienced this in my entire life, I just could not do the work anymore that was asked of my coworkers/boss. so before anyone else realized this and ended my tenure that day. I reviewed my employment contract, stating at-will meaning either you or company can terminate contract at any time for any reason, with or without cause. I dont like being a quitter, but I did not want to leave any negative impressions in the office. A two-week notice in my situation was not an option since I was already in shut down mode already and needed to take action quickly. I called a longtime friend of mine before I quit to get his take on this and asked he me this question. Will you eat the next day after you quit? I said yes. And his answer was to drop this position like a Hot Potato!
I agree with leaving on a positive note and giving 2 weeks notice. I don’t really agree with having a meeting with your boss, especially if you and your boss don’t exactly get along. I believe in a short, positive, and professional email to your boss and their boss and perhaps HR so multiple people are aware and can plan ahead.
Yep. Email.
Yea I sent an email and left a note on the door. She never even followed up.
No two weeks they won’t give you a two week when they fire or lay you off
Thanks for the pro tips, today is the big boom day, wish me GOOD LUCK
Great video! One more thing to consider...timing of ur health insurance coverage as some companies terminate it end of your last day or end of last month. Put your notification accordingly, so ur not paying high cobra rates or not covered during the transition.
Well I’m gonna say that this girl is a master at complicating one of the simplest things there is no reason leaving a job needs to be this complicated because it’s not
In the past I have done this and it was a dignified way of exiting even toxic workplace. I felt I took my power back. Great tips there.
..
You walk in and say “you suck as a boss, I’m under paid for the value I bring, and you can kiss my rear. Adios.”
🤣🤣🤣
Lmao
What really frustrates me is when someone works in a toxic environment the only chance to let them know they suck is when you quit, but it is “recommended “ not to do that.
Our company has an "anonymous" employee complaint form that you can fill out on your phone and send in anonymously. People use it to complain mostly about management.
@@m.pietro9087 recommended to not be honest
I remember working at a place where no one gave 2weeks notice because the employer would fire them on the spot when they even heard the employee was even looking for a job . As a trucker not giving notice and quitting on the spot could have you as abandoning the truck and not making getting hired by another company difficult.
I've left jobs while leaving mid shift. I've left jobs with notice. If you have the time, working your notice can be rather entertaining. It's fun to see how people turn on you once they have no use for you. My last job. I have 2 weeks notice. I tried to help train my"friend" who was replacing me. I bought a meal for all my team. The small team that made work fun. I asked my replacement if she needed any more training she said no. I hugged my team goodbye 5 mins later and left her on shift. It was so satisfying.
Jennifer, outstanding content! Love your “straight talk / talk turkey” approach!
I recently resigned from a executive level position with a company, and followed all of the advice you recommend here. I had hit a ceiling with current company and found an opportunity that fit me and my ambition. Focusing exit conversations with my team and other teammates on the positive aspects of my new opportunity, helps to keep the conversation on track and entirely positively focused.
Great advice throughout, Jennifer. Love your channel. Drive on!
This video is probably the most helpful one that I've seen regarding how to properly resigning in the most graceful way! I love how you said to be honest about feeling nervous/uncomfy in having the official conversation about resigning. I feel like most of the other videos give solid objective points to hit, but they seem too robotic and cold, which doesn't suit my personal industry/company environment/personality.
Thank you for offering tips in how to be sincere yet still professional in this otherwise very uncomfy event!
I think a lot of advice online for career stuff gives canned scripts. I think it's important to be you and be true in these conversations
I hope u can reply me ASAP😊GOD BLESS YOU 🙏😘
I working in salon as massage therapist,
I want to resign my job, because of good offer outside,
What should I do first, shall I tell to the manager first or the HR or directly to the owner of the salon? Thank you 😊
Thank you! I've watched a dozen or more how to quit videos, and your details have given me confidence. It's going to be hard and you're the only person who has acknowledged that it's OK to feel it.
This is the first video I saw that explained the nuts and bolts of quitting a job.
I start the new job in 2 weeks!
They didn't pay me overtime for working a week straight (54 hours). I went to HR and quit
Suck don’t it? I’m on salary and can’t do anything about it. Lol
@P R That's life.
Underrated channel. Top-tier stuff.
I’m about to not quit my job but asked for a transferred so I don’t know if this is the same thing but this video has helped me!
The owner knew why quit I got pushed out by cutting hours and so on. F the two weeks notice. He had to understand I couldn't live on 20 hours a week.
I'm sorry you went through that, Dave.
I had a former co-worker who personally attacked the boss in his resignation email. He called the boss a predatory business woman and a bad leader who makes people cry. The funny thing is about a year after he left, he asked to come back and you can guess how that went.
I would never go back.
Never boomerang unless you going to another location like I did
I feel it varies job to job. In my case, I've noticed that all the folks who attempted to graciously leave by giving 2 weeks notice, have basically been told to screw off that same day.
Terrible and unprofessional. My last employer a few years ago gave two additional teachers my classes, so I didn't complete my two weeks.
The best revenge is to leave a toxic company to be toxic. They will do more long-term damage to themselves than you could ever do.
I’m gonna give my boss my notice tomorrow and I’m SO NERVOUS. This is my first job, I’m 16, and my boss is AMAZING. I feel so guilty having to leave because he works his ass off everyday and really sticks up for the younger workers in the workplace, as well as prioritizing the employees mental health. We are understaffed and so many of my associates have been quitting….
Just do it
Oh update; I did it and it went fine. He was so supportive and said he was excited for me to step into a new chapter of my life. My other boss told me I was welcome back anytime. I did mistype something on the letter though, but a quick text cleared up the mistake 👍
@@seasalt9289 I'm glad you had a positive experience!
That’s so mature for your age. Keep up the good professional good work. It will take you a long way with great references😊💪🏽
First time quitter, needed this so bad. Lol
I think there are some valid points you mention. However, thanking you boss or company and saying nice things is something you should not do. Your letter should simply state that your resigning effective from start date and your last day of work. You don't need to say anything about transfer knowledge helping with transitioning etc. You then put yourself in pearl and shitz talk when you do leave, with everything blaming you for not helping with the transition. You can't win basically so don't mention this in your resignation letter. Keep it absolutely brief as possible. And if there is a meeting to discuss your resignation. Keep it brief. Dont say anything that you don't want them know. Don't say nice things for the sake of it. Keep it polite and let them do the talking. Just listen to them. After that it's up to you who you tell or not about you leaving.
I wish employers could do the same in turn with employees and lay them off with dignity instead of the mass zoom layoffs we have been seeing as of late that has become so popular in the last 2 years. I love how we are supposed to be respectful polite and give 4 weeks notice when employers have been allowed to act like clowns.
Great video! As a former teacher myself, I can totally relate to these mistakes. It's so important for educators transitioning into new careers to be aware of these pitfalls. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah always be the nice person it reflects on our Character
I like my current job! My job is to not tell anyone the things that I know about my employer. I don't even need to go into the office for this. I can do this job from home.
If we work in a team environment, do we have to tell our team members we are quitting on the 2 week mark, or do we leave that to our boss? I guess I will ask my boss, but yeah I really don't want the team members making my last 2 weeks hell. This is the thing I'm dreading the most.
So nervous to do this but thank you so much for your help!!
Don’t be nervous cuz they won’t be nervous when they fire your or lay you off. In fact, they would be happier than a fat kid with cake 🍰
Lol I’m so happy my mom sent me your channel. Today after half a decade, is the day I leave this company for a better opportunity. Thank you for helping me type my letter of resignation in 5 minutes lol
Im thinking of leaving. Personally I think Im friends with my boss but at the same time I want to tell him, " I don't want to see you, talk to you, I don't want to have anything to do with you ever again". LOL sad but true because I actually like the guy socially.
If they were never really respectful and professional to you, why should you? Just ghost them once you find another job.
Boss: "There are hundreds of people that can replace you, so you do a good job or you're out".
Me: "Ok boss. I'll do my best".
And I never showed up again. Didn't answer calls or texts saying "Why did you quit? What's wrong?" LMAO!
I have never dreamed about letting my bad boss know exactly why I was leaving. I actually did that in person with my manager and director in 2016. It was refreshing to burn that bridge. Three months later, the company was sold and all salaries were cut.
Yes burn that bridge 🌉 crispy than fried chicken
Hi Jennifer,
I recently received a offer that was would change my life style and was afraid to addressing with my boss they have been very helpful and supportive however I’m not into sales and marketing. The company just informed me new task and is not making me feel enthusiastic about it. I wished that my current company would have that in their job description a year ago when they hired me. So I’m giving my resignation today thank you for your template ❤❤
I want to leave in a blaze of glory!! 😂 I'm going to quit hopefully soon. I'm just waiting to find another job first.
I quit my job today as I couldn't put up with the toxicity in that work place any longer.
Set borders.. The "professional" way to leave your job is that which falls within your expectations regarding how you expect to be properly treated. If that means walking out without any notice, do so...
I'm quitting and I feel nothing.
I can relate. I didn't cry as much yesterday. I just cried for myself a bit.
Excellent ..
Although I don't know that it needs to be respectfully ... Depending on how *they're* treating *you* . ... If you have some money, in the bank - you don't have to.
Pro tip, best time to quit your job is when your Boss "accidentally misplaces" the clock-in sheet.
Wait, what!? That sounds dodgy - how do they 'misplace the clockin sheet?
@@JenniferBrick I noticed my check was missing 40$, so I asked my Boss what happened. She said I must've forgotten to sign in, I strongly disagreed with that and asked her if she could show the month's clock in folder.
Surprise surprise, when she gets the folder turns out a WHOLE day was missing from clock-in, so me and 2 others of my co-workers checks were wrong.
My Boss usually takes the folder home with her to calculate the hours, she said she must've forgotten it at home or forgot to add in that day.
This isn't the first time our checks have been wonky and it wasn't the last time. One time a girl I was working with told me she was missing 100$ out of her check when she calculated the hours. So glad I don't work there anymore.
Wow. Were I used to work they always paid no matter what. May have been a not so great place to work but they paid you every week no withholding.
I find co-workers that like me and use those as references and the company can piss off.
Im in the process of leaving for a new position at the moment. My management was honestly really good and I couldn't complain. For me it was more about growth. I felt I did everything I could do and needed to metaphorically spread my wings. I'm kinda nervous to tell them but I feel they are really good managers and would be happy for me.
Don’t tell them. They won’t be happy
Done! Thanks for the advice it helped A LOT!😎
Check you're not liable for any training costs, that was the situation I recently found myself in.
I know what you mean
Should a person tell their manager first, or the actual boss? In my mind, isn't it best to tell the boss first and the office manager?
Most people will inform their direct manager first, but I've known people who sucked their resignation directly to the HR team too.
@@JenniferBrick I remember living in New York, and I decided to relocate to North Carolina. I gave my Notice directly to my boss, and didn't realize I needed to tell my manager first. Maybe my office manager felt a little slighted, because I didn't tell her first and went to the Boss. I honestly didn't know to do that. I always thought it's best to go to the Boss first, then the Boss tells the manager. regarding something of that nature. Thank you for that information.
If the company doesn't give employees 2 weeks notice, then neither do I.
😂 true. Same
This is why I never give a two week notice. When they fire you or lay you off they’re not giving you a two week notice
Funny I watched some of these videos when I was preparing for my first interview, first day, etc and now I'm getting ready to quit
Oh my God, that template. Thank you for sharing that with us.
I actually work as a cashier at a retail store. Is all these steps necessary? I'm thinking of giving a one week notice if anything. and that's it. Respectfully say I'm resigning and that I'm looking for a fresh start. And just tell my boss one on one. Idk this is my first job and I don't want to burn any bridges by doing the wrong thing. Please give me some advice.
If you have accumulated a lot of PTO how can you get your vacation time off before quitting your job gracefully?
Put in your pto two weeks in advance or before next schedule and once it’s all done and you know you’ll still getting paid for it. Quit on the day you’re suppose to return to work
90% of time you are never gonna come back. In 20 years it never happened to me with 6 companies I left. I prefer you take all vacations before quitting and give them the time that works for you first and if that’s only a week then that be it. Always start your new job fresh and don’t worry about your previous employer b/c you are officially checking out when you decided to leave.
It seems like a bad idea, to have any conversations at all with your soon-to-be former bosses. All you're doing is giving them the opportunity to draw you into some sort of confrontation.
I am expecting that and being fired the instant I give two weeks.
No , cause they don't want to pay unemployment
No two weeks just quit
Your key was moving to the left during the video.. Fascinating 👍😉😊.. Great video
This was such a good video!! So helpful and thorough. Thank you for the great tips!
Thank you for all of your amazing content- it’s lead me to my next job! ❤
I made the horrible mistake of burning a bridge by insulting my former company. The first week I started my new job I had an incident that really made me want to leave the new job and go back to the old one. But because I decided to be immature I they weren't going to hire me back. Luckily I stuck it out with my new/current job and I absolutely love it, however if it had not turned out good I would have been stuck working a job I hate. I also burnt the bridge of being able to use any of my former coworkers as references. DON'T burn your bridges I promise it isn't worth it.
You burned the bridge the wrong way. I burn a bridge with someone because I know I will never see them again, which I never do. And never go back to that company. Once I decide to quit that company never cross my mind to go back. I forgot about them the day I quit.
Burn the bridge crispy than fried chicken
2 weeks notice is dead.....as soon as you give notice you will probably be asked to leave if you are in any senior position...with everything being computerized and tons of financial and company IP available for the taking...companies can't risk it anymore.
Thanks for sharing the wisdom.
Anytime ✨
I m going to quit my job after 22 years. Cos toxic immature coworkers and management. Travel job is best, no attachment. But I m going to tell wt all these did and write a letter to HR also
Thank you so much for sharing those tips and the template!
The company will fire you without notice, act accordingly. Just saying.
True
I dont give notice... notice how they fire you
Find job. Tell them I am ready to work in 2 days if I like salary and soon as the paperwork is done. Go to work like normal. Go to HR get on cobra, and leave.
True
I do t give notice cuz they don’t give notice when they fire or lay you off
Thank you so much for the template. I'm finally about to go to work and put in my two weeks!
No two week just quit and leave.
This was super helpful! Thank you so much!❤
Many companies nowadays are so arrogant. If you work for one of these toxic companies, not only should you not give them any notice, just quietly clean out your office over a couple weeks time, then just stop showing up. Don't even bother telling them that you left their employ. Let them figure it out. F* them!
Why should we give two weeks notice ? When companies planning to fire people don’t you think they better to give two weeks notice because that person has bills and expenses also.
And I don’t give two weeks notice cuz I like to take a vacation before I start my new job
How do you leave if you don't have a job opportunity or anything else lined up?
I quit my job the same day I gave notice and my boss was totally fine with it. I’m in sales. It’s the way it works in this industry
In terms of an unsafe working environment what if I don’t want to work for another 2 week?
Depends on where you live (different places have different laws about notice periods) and what you can negotiate.
@@JenniferBrick can you give examples of anywhere that has laws pertaining to this? What do the laws consist of/state?
If the job is a legit unsafe environment.
..as in you feel yours or someone else's safety is at risk...either by intentionally being unsafe or neglecting/ignorance of OSHA requirements...if you feel 'threatened or in danger'...leave ASAP. I feel a life and that person's quality of life(might get severely injured...say amputated arm or something that can really cause an unnecessary hardship on that person's life...that was completely avoidable had you resigned or even just quit.
I'm about to put my resignation in...I work as an overnight produce manager at a groceries store. Pros...good workout every night. Most tenured coworkers are real chill.
Cons..
Sometimes insane hour shifts..like 17hours...working out that much is just stupid. The issue is I'm back in school to become an engineer, so I talk with mysupervisor and he saidl once I finish my area towards end of shift I can roll out. Whkch im very very thankful for...but even with that the nights are tool long...I'm in calculus 2 this semester and its kicking my butt...being so tired from the type of work I do being compounded by severe lack of sleep...I barelychave time to legit study or sleep. that aspect of it being so tired is dangerous especially while driving forklift. The place I work has some safety concerns to say the least lol.
If I felt threatened or endangered
Just go in say I enjoyed my time here but it has become too dangerous for me and I no longer feel comfortable staying in this role company. Be polite and Frank and be honest. If you can hold through the danger and put 2 weeks notice in...and your supervisor likes you enough and you trust them enough to give a positive work reference...I'd go that route.
So I'm actually pondering on this exact same thing..but with added not enough time being dedicated fo my schooling. If onlycearth days were 36 hours long I think I'd be ok lol. But I'm curious as to what you're hinting at with saying it depends on the laws in your area...thank you and keep up the great work! Inspiring
@@jeremygalloway1348 there is a global audience watching this video, and not every country ore region has At-Will employment as is common in many US states, and employment contracts may also stipulate different notice periods.
I don't provide legal advice, I'm not a lawyer, but a quick google can for your location typically will give you guidance about local laws.
Danger : a woman reported a malfunctioning machine at the end of the day. They put her back on it the next day so she thought they fixed it, now she is dead and they blamed her in court, her kids and husband are suffering horribly.
Thank you very much for the information and for stopped me from not going out with the blazer glory
Thank you Jennifer this video really helps me out alot, cause I like the company I'm currently working for, but there isn't much room for growth and opportunity and actually just got done interviewing for a new job today where there is room for growth, they offer benefits and I was actually able to get that job! Now comes the hard part of actually having this conversation with my current employer with whom I wish to leave on good terms and no hard feelings.
What do you recommend to put the meeting topic as?
If my organization is fully remote because of Covid (used to be in office), should I just set up a MS teams meeting, or try to get a social distance walk? For what it's worth, I like my boss, and I'm pretty sure my boss likes me.
You can call it 'catchup' or 'sync'
Up to you on what's feasible, and if MS Teams or a socially distanced walking meeting is right; consider your relationship with you manager and what feels right to you. I know it's weird with COVID.
@@JenniferBrick Thanks Jennifer!
Anytime 🥰
I have been wanting to quit my job for some time now and I’ve worked at this job for 7 years but I loved my manager and every time I was about to quit, we were short staffed and I felt bad quitting so I never did. One time I actually did quit/got fired and my boss and manager both were mad at me but I needed up helping them out during a busy holiday and they ended up giving me my job back. That was 2 years ago, and now my manager just up and quit with no notice to me and 2 other employees are planning on leaving, that would leave me and one 2 other employees. I really want to quit but my boss just made the assumption that I would take the manager position. Is it really short of me to quit now that my manager just put her two weeks in?
I'm in the same boat. I feel bad for quitting but I know it's what is best.
She is so wonderful!
I was working in a warehouse made 600-800 a month worked harder than the job paid so wasnt worth it tryna leave start 5am get their late almost everyday they still not firing me so i aint knw what to do
Thank you for making this video. It really helps
I did actually have a disagreement with my boss once and leave and never come back because it was the last straw, but I was studying for a masters degree in the evenings and weekends so the way I got around it was to simply not put them on my CV and state that I had a career break as a masters student. The reason I did this is because I didn't feel that any reference they would give me would be good anyway because they hated me despite my hard work; it was a 'Mean Girl' culture and I thought, since I probably won't get a reference at all or a good reference, why bother to be a nice person and give them a month of notice to organize my files and retrain the new person? Kindness and professionalism should work both ways. I wouldn't try this at home though, especially if it's a first job. I'd been working for a number of years before this job so I had previous employers to give me a reference and had built up a decent reputation in my city. My advice would be, if you've stormed out of an office in a fit of temper or have left and never went back (unless it was a sick leave), to leave it off your CV, unless you're confident that someone in that company would still give you a reference or at least confirm your employment dates. It's not worth destroying your career because many new offers are subject to receipt of a satisfactory reference. You will always have the last laugh if you sit tight, wait for a better opportunity instead of leaving and having to take the next position that comes along. It's better to choose the role, not be forced to take a role as damage control. Thankfully I'm now on a higher salary in a great company with 42 days annual leave! Karma is a wonderful thing 😊
I cannot give my toxic boss a reason- ITS HIM- I am not graceful enough to be gratiful (OVER IT) and I cannot offer a transistion plan (THEY WILL DESPERATLY NEED ONE) and I plan to take my vacation time and NOT come back. Can I stress how much I hate the a hole I work for?
Should I do an exit interview? There's a lot of content that suggests exit interviews are way more beneficial to the company than employee, and most of the time the employee won't want to divulge the truth. Does it reflect badly if you politely decline?
I am going to exercise your advised-precise way of resigning in few days🤑🤑
