  • In this video, Can You Replace Two Fluorescent Ballast With One? [FULL BALLAST WIRING TUTORIAL]
I am going to explain the wiring process of replacing two, two bulb Ballast With a single four bulb Ballast. The wiring process is fairly simple just keep in mind there are twice as many wires as there would be if the fixture was wired with a four bulb Ballast from the factory.
I am also going to install plug and play L.E.D Fluorescent bulb replacements and new bulb covers, to get the most light I can out of the fixtures.
When you add up the cost of replacing or updating the fixtures with new L.E.D fixtures. It just makes sense to update the fixtures you have for about half the cost of new ones.
It took me about an hour to update the fixture and install a new light cover, that is about the same amount of time it would require to install a new fixture.
Having good lighting in a work space helps to keep things safe there is nothing better than being able to see everything you are doing.

Thank you! Have a 4 bulb, two ballast fluorescent fixture - one ballast failed. Replaced both with one ballast. Great video with step-by- step instructions you can't go wrong.

Thanks for the video. Had the same problem and found this while searching. I had changed ballasts before but never gone from two to one. This worked perfectly. Even changed out the old T12 fluorescents to T8 LED's so hopefully they last a while longer.

Thanks for the clear and concise tutorial video, I had never changed a ballast let alone two into one and was second-guessing myself, found your video and it went smooth as silk.

This video is spot on for what I needed to do except that both of my T12 2bulb ballasts were still working. I waited a few years til one would die but finally got tired of waiting for that to happen. Thank you for sharing this particular video.

Thank you - I was shocked I found this by goglling the exact issue you wrote about...my issue was there was only THREE bulbs...I could not figure out the middle tube but im happy I got it all PS I replaced my t12s flrecents with T8 LEDs and I live in a northern climate and it worked great

I just did this exact same thing with the same ballast. I did 2 of each color from fixture to one of the matching color on the ballast and did not mix the red and blue like you show. Everything works fine on mine.

Enjoy all your videos very much. Keep up the good work! But was wondering on this one why you spent extra money for a ballast when one isn't required for direct wire LED's. Direct wire Type B LED Bulbs convert 48" T8 fixtures to live voltage. Very easy to install, no ballast to install. Direct wire LED tubes wire directly to line voltage and there is no need to purchase or install a new ballast when the old ballast goes bad. I used the Type B LED bulbs in my shop without a ballast and they work great. I also have a 48" light fixture that still has a ballast and I am currently using Type A bulbs in this one. Type A works with existing ballast. When this ballast goes bad, I will convert to Type B LED bulbs and remove the ballast.

It was my understanding that the direct wire or type b bulbs don't start well in cold weather. How ever the instant start Ballast with type a bulbs would be a better cold weather choice. I am not positive if this is the case or not. My main purpose for this upgrade is to stop the light flickering. I purchased a new camera to record videos and it picks up even a little flicker. Thank you for your input and if you are in a weather area and have no issues please let me know. Thanks for watching.

Yeah of course you can. There are four three two and one light ballasts out there. They exist for T5 T8 and T12 in all shapes. You can even use a led driver and led t8s

You need some flush low profile led in there or maybe even some vaportight if you dont like the low profile leds

What do you mean when you say you mark them after checking for continuity? I didn’t do that step and after wiring the new ballast my lights are very dim

4 bulb set up is easy
1 yellow goes to one side for 2 yellows and other to other side.
1 red to 2 reds on one side and vice versa and 1 blue to 2 blues on one side and vice versa

How do you hook up the four corners

  • @dwheat9003

These newer ballast suck, light output from my two utube shaped 40 watt tubes is less light, more like what light output you would expect from dimmer 32'watt tubes.
