  • Kings Dyke Level Crossing, Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire
    Date filmed: 16/06/2020
    Route: Ely to Peterborough Line
    - Between Peterborough and Whittlesea Stations
    Location: A605 Peterborough Road, Whittlesey
    Trains: Class 66 (Freightliner) - 3:01
    Class 66 (GBRF) - 3:29
The level crossing located on the very busy A605 to the west of Whittlesey near Peterborough, controlled from the small on-site signal box. Both alarms sounded at a fair volume here, and all four barriers here were very long, each with a supporter arm. They became a little worse for wear as time went on, since some struck the floor when they lowered. All equipment here seemed very rusty and rather dirty, since this level crossing was constantly used by a lot of heavy goods vehicles and industrial traffic.
Two freight trains passed each other at the level crossing in this closure, with the second starting to cross just as the first finished to cross, leaving for some satisfying railway action on a line very busy for freight traffic.
The bypass which was the solution to the traffic woes it caused opened officially on the 11th of July 2022, which will be removing the need for the level crossing all-together. The level crossing permanently closed in November 2022.
    Thanks for watching!
