Ah yes, the film that kicked off the MonsterVerse! Some didn't like the fact that the title character had a lack of screen time, but in my opinion, while it was sort of an issue, it didn't make me mad. The way they really portrayed Godzilla throughout the film was terrifying. An unknown monster that's raising from the depths and trampling through cities. Plus, the way everything was shot from the citizen's point of view was insane.
I very much agree. Although I do think it could've been a slight bit better if they showed a tiny bit more of the monsters, I really liked the darker tone of the movie and the sheer scale and power of the monsters, felt very akin to the kaiju's and jagers from the only Pacific Rim movie.
@@nitrokid There was actually a color-grading error in the initial release of DVDs of this film, IIRC. It was graded way too dark, making a lot of the movie, which was meant to be dark and to use shadow extensively to maintain a sense of uncertainty and foreboding, completely unwatchable. That was fixed in later releases, and, as someone who saw the film in the theatre, wasn't something that impacted the theatrical release.
So fun fact, the original Godzilla roar is so iconic but they only have the original recorded on tape, so each time they play it back it deteriorates a little bit. So Legendary Studios basically had to appeal to the original Japanese studio to let them use the original roar and digitise and make it new. And when they tested out the new roar, they borrowed the Rolling Stones massive concert speaker array set up in a carpark at the studio and cranked up the volume to max. It blew out people's windows and set off alarms for like a mile. And the original studio said they were super pleased with the new roar.
Which is perfect, because the airport crowd reacted the exact same way. Screaming at the flaming vehicle, then stunned silence when Godzilla's leg appears and stomps down.
Try this..... Test detonated TSAR BOMBE 1500+ time bigger than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined and that is only 1 3rd it`s full power... mushroom cloud 7+ times the height of Everest, could be seen in Alaska 750 miles from detonation, THERE IS NOTHING BIGGER OTHER THAN IT`S FULL POWER VERSION....
Yes, you have seen the lead actor, Aaron Taylor Johnson, before. He played Pietro, the brother of Wanda, in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. They played husband & wife in this movie, brother & sister in the MCU.
And they were released a yr apart, May/2014 for Godzilla, May/2015 for Age Of Ultron. I remember people Going "huh last time I saw them they were a couple now they're twins... kinda weird" 😂😂😂 It's especially weird for reactors who start the MCU and seen Avengers 2 1st then see this so their image of them is already siblings then going to a couple.
In WandaVision, it is revealed that Wanda watched many American sitcoms from previous decades, one of them being Malcolm in the Middle. Bryan Cranston plays the father on that show and is in the early part of this movie.
sound wise, one of my favourite imax experiences. the creature designs, the reveals, the lack of creature screen time was actually a great idea, imo, if only the human story and performances were better executed. and that ending fight, oh my.

Growing up as a child in the time of the old Godzilla movies, I have always been a fan, and I loved how they made this movie. They gave you a story, then fed you the monsters piece by piece.
Director Gareth Edwards constructs his film well which hearkens back to the fun sci-fi monster movies of the 1950s. He uses their formulas of build up, slight reveal, big finale. I loved that.
I think there was also a conscious choice on Edwards' part to emphasize the sheer scale of Godzilla's world by making the film reflect, to a degree, the limited viewpoint humans would have of such colossal events. You don't get to see everything in some scenes because there's literally too much to see; the incredible size of the events occurring surpasses a human's ability to comprehend, in almost a Lovecraftian sense. It creates a great conflicting sense of a desperate desire to see and a desperate desire to escape.
Man the cinematography and sound effects/design is just incredible in this particular movie. Everything felt so grand and epic. The monsters feel like they are gods walking among people. Everything i could want in a monster movie basically. The next two don't capture that at all imo, which is why i prefer this one.

My favorite film franchise. So awesome to see you watching it. BTW: The reason the tank hurt Godzilla on the bridge is cause they accidentally hit his guils, which is a sensitive point on his body
Not sure the tank hurt Godzilla, so much as pissed him off. Because it was only after that tank fired at him, from point blank range, that Godzilla just went: "f*ck it!" and smashed through the Golden Gate Bridge, like it didn't matter to him at all. Before that, Godzilla almost seemed like he was being careful around humans.

Funny that you recognized Elizabeth Olsen(Wanda Maximoff), because Ford Brody is being played by Aaron Taylor Johnson, who plays Pietro Maximoff(Quick Silver) in Avengers: Age of Altron in the MCU… yes, brother & sister. I'm excited for your journey through the Monsterverse. My favorite is Godzilla: King of the Monsters, even though there are two more afterwards. They nailed the monsters and their origins in that movie and I'm excited to see your reactions to it.
The fan in me loves KotM, but the movie buff in me rates it as the worst of the mosnterverse because the human plot in that movie is by far the worst. Mostly from the fact that the human antagonist's motive makes absolutely no sense.
@@Grf1556 You don't need a good human plot. Many of the Japanese Godzilla movies have unbearable human plots, but work because of the monster action. I would say not to worry about the human plot because it did not get any better in Godzilla vs Kong.
I agree, KotM was pretty much the Western Godzilla movie I’d always wanted. I love how even though it’s a sequel to Godzilla 2014, it feels like such a different film, but it makes sense within the context of the story.
Great reaction! I remember seeing this as a kid. I didn’t know much about films or film making back then but I’ll always remember how well they took their time to show Godzilla. It was an amazing build up
After seeing Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen as siblings in Age of Ultron, it was kinda weird seeing them as a married couple in this movie lol but I got over that quickly
Honestly this was the best movie of the Godzilla / King franchise that it kicked off, and it’s because it was made with love by a very purely talented film maker. Yeah it focussed more on humans than Godzilla, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It makes the moments where we actually see him actually terrifying. I believe when it comes to the next movies you get a bit desensitised to seeing the massive monsters, and their sense of scale is lost when that happens. This movie keeps him in the dark a lot, there’s more focus on the damage and the trauma. Much better made film than Kong/King of the Monsters/Godzilla vs Kong in my opinion.
What I love about godzillas design is how truly amazing they did with blending the old godzillas body type to a truly real looking cgi model, godzillas body’s always looked goofy and awkward in the old movies now….he looks magnificent
Funny how both Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier's post-credit scene and Godzilla in the same year.
I love this film. Great reaction. If you think about it. We caused this. We as humans woke the monsters. If you look once the other monsters woke. It triggered Godzilla who needed to restore balance. Even the bridge scene he didn't attack the human who were attacking him. Yes, he caused destruction to, but he was focused on the two other titans. He grabbed the bridge to brace himself. He just wanted to put end to the other two Titans. Yes, Godzilla just wanted to restore balance as I said. If was truly a monster he would have woke up and continued attacking, but after the titans were dealt with, he went back to ocean. So, in a way he was savior, because we couldn't handle the titans on our own. If you love this movie watch Skull Island, Godzilla King of Monsters and Godzilla vs Kong. Really amazing movies.
Yeah y'all definitely need to continue this series with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs Kong. Y'all in for a ride. The next Godzilla movie shows just how God tier Godzilla's power really is. You get to see him unleashed in his next two appearances. King Kong is cool too! The destruction in this one ain't nothing compared to the destruction in the next ones. And as far as Marvel...WATCH BLADE AND BLADE II!!
Funny thing is that its actually Pietro/Quicksilver's actor Aaron Taylor Johnson from Age of Ultron as the protagonist in this movie and hes the husband of Wanda in this movie
I watched this movie in the cinema back then and i remember that "FWUMP" sound, when Godzilla hits the male Muto with his tail, felt like it made my heart skip an extra beat. You really felt how impactful something like this would be.
Just wait until you check out the other MonsterVerse films, especially King of the Monsters. The fact G’14 is part of my favorite film franchise is overwhelming and I love how Japan is making these movies along with us.
Such an epic movie. Been addicted to everything Godzilla since i was a kid with the TOHO movies. Y’all absolutely need to make sure to continue on with the rest of the Monsterverse. They tone of the movies change after Godzilla 2014, but there all so great. Awesome reaction.
Excellent reaction you 2. I am glad you are exploring the Monsterverse now 😊. I have been watching all the Godzilla movies since I was a child. All oldies but goodies. But the newer Monster verse is excellent. I do recommend Japan's Shin Godzilla which came out in-between the Monsterverse movies. It is really well done and definitely a bit different from previous G movies. I think you would enjoy it.
7:30. He said something about an EMP. EMP = Electromagnetic Pulse. An Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), also referred to as a Transient Electromagnetic Disturbance (TED), is a brief burst of electromagnetic energy. The electromagnetic interference caused by an (EMP) can disrupt communications and damage Electronic equipment. And that's why all the power and all the lights went out in this scene.
Oh, and there are four Monsterverse movies so far: GODZILLA, KONG: SKULL ISLAND, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, and GODZILLA VS. KONG. They’re all a blast to watch.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) is the next film and IMO, the far superior film. You will also want to watch Skull Island for King Kong's origin, because the third Godzilla film is Godzilla Vs. Kong. And yes, 2024 is going to be a new Godzilla film. There is also an Apple+ TV show that will focus on Monarch and the events after 2014. They say we're going to get to see the battle in Hawaii instead of just the aftermath, so that's exciting!
You guys definitely need to react to the original 1954 Godzilla and 2016's Shin Godzilla! The original is a metaphor for Hiroshima, and Shin Godzilla is a metaphor for the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and Japan's governmental mishandling of the incidents
In the original Japanese movie, Godzilla was the villain, and he continued to be the villain in many of the other movies in this genre. Sometimes he represents nature, sometimes destruction, but in the original he was super destructive and was created by nuclear bomb tests.
They started the Monsterverse. These reactions are going to be so much fun. Godzilla Kong: Skull Island Godzilla King Of The Monsters Godzilla vs. Kong Godzilla x Kong The New Empire
I believe sometimes he’s dormant, but he wakes when there is another monster on earth. He senses it and comes out of his dormant state. They are millennia old enemies. And therefore Godzilla must protect his habitat. At the very least on that side of the earth. That’s my understanding of the situation.
18:12 - this few seconds scene was filmed in my town! Funny enough the train /train tracks were CGI'D even though they could have literally moved their set to where our actual train tracks were lol.
The actress that plays Wanda maximoff in the MCU her real name is Elizabeth Olsen she's the younger sister of Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen from full house
If you all are watching Godzilla, then you need to watch all the movies in this franchise. If not for views then for the epic scale each movie brings to the serious.
Yess. I'm so excited you guys are reacting to the MonsterVerse. Keep up the awesome work and tbh even you guys get to Godzilla vs Kong there was a Bigg showdown on Twitter with #TeamGodzilla and #TeamKong. Which side you on I'm always on Big G

Godzilla is a great franchise in firsts... The original is a great movie. This movie was a great reboot. Shin Godzilla was amazing Godzilla minus zero looks mind-blowing! (We don't talk about 90s zilla... tgat wasn't Godzilla)
The Father played Quicksilver, Wanda's Brother in the MCU that was killed in Avengers: Age of Ultron saving Hawkeye and the little Boy, so this Movie messes Me up every time I see them kiss in this Movie! lol
Just reacting to your reaction of the nuclear explosion at the beginning: 1. Check out footage from first russian hydrogen bomb test - RDS-37 - the one filmed over a town. No one in that town knew about the test - they stood there in the streets watching in awe - and then the shockwave came and knocked everyone down 2. You may also check footage of Castle Bravo - a test that went wrong since scientists assumed it's gonna be 5Mt, while in reality the explosion was 15Mt. So everyone observing it was standing too close. I remember that in some documentary about it one sailor said he told his friend "I think we're goners" when they felt the heat of the fireball on their faces The scale of these things is just hard to describe and hollywood movies usually get it all wrong anyway And this is really excellent Godzilla movie. A lot of people criticised it because they wanted just another action packed CGI feast. This movie took the subject differently and I really appreciate it. It was not giving us many "cinematic shots" but focused on making you feel like you're there and watch it from your own perspective. I really made you feel the scale of it. No other Godzilla movie did that.
thats Wanda and Pietro.. hope you continue this Monsterverse..this is actually my fave one in the monsterverse..great reaction guys..can you do the Saw Franchise? hehehe..
16:16 - I think the fight in Hawaii was a distraction since by then they weren't aware there was two Mutos and everyone was focused on the one fighting Godzilla.
I Love the Godzilla movies. I've been watching them since the 80's ... Godzilla 1985 is one of my favorites from my childhood. The sequel to this one, Godzilla: King of Monsters is awesome. Kong: Skull Island might come before King of Monsters then after both of those is Kong vs Godzilla. The 2005 King Kong movie is a really cool movie too, just a remake of the original 1933 movie.
Oh, interesting info on the Mutos, there IS a reason for the EMP-blast. They're evolved specifically to be parasites to Godzilla's kind. The EMP-effect is just a side effect of what it actually does- it weakens his atomic breath.

You don't need a good human plot. Many of the Japanese Godzilla movies have unbearable human plots, but work because of the monster action. I would say not to worry about the human plot because it did not get any better in Godzilla vs Kong.
I agree, KotM was pretty much the Western Godzilla movie I’d always wanted. I love how even though it’s a sequel to Godzilla 2014, it feels like such a different film, but it makes sense within the context of the story.
they gotta see shin Godzilla too dawg don't forget the homie
@@NateL1992You definitely need good human plot if most of the run time will be spent following the humans
That “Kiss of Death” has to be one of the best uses of Big G’s atomic breath.
King of Monsters is a hell of a movie, and can't wait to see you guys react to it.
4:00 you notice the father because he was in the same movie as Wanda. That is the actor who played Pietro/Quicksilver in Age of Ultron
15:00 why was bro whackin off to godzilla
What I love about godzillas design is how truly amazing they did with blending the old godzillas body type to a truly real looking cgi model, godzillas body’s always looked goofy and awkward in the old movies now….he looks magnificent
The husband is the same actor who played Wanda's brother :)
Funny how both Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier's post-credit scene and Godzilla in the same year.
Such a well-made and well-written film. Amazing!
Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Ford but also Pietro in Avengers Age of Ultron. So he's played both Olsen's lover and brother.
Really amazing movies.
big G fan, i hope the monsterverse goes on until i die
15:00 me after 1 a.m. while my parents are not at home
…
There used to be an app game based on the skydive and city section where you had to rescue survivors
15:00 I don't appreciate that noise with that hand movement... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Oooooooooh!" Followed by, "Nooooooooo!" (I'm starting to sense a theme), then, "Whoooooooooaaah!" And finally, "Brooooooooooo!" And then repeat, LOL.
15:02 yoo thats some sus hand movement bruh💀😂
I watched this movie in the cinema back then and i remember that "FWUMP" sound, when Godzilla hits the male Muto with his tail, felt like it made my heart skip an extra beat. You really felt how impactful something like this would be.
Just wait until you check out the other MonsterVerse films, especially King of the Monsters.
The fact G’14 is part of my favorite film franchise is overwhelming and I love how Japan is making these movies along with us.
Gets me hyped that people are getting into the monsterverse 🔥🔥
I grew up with classic Godzilla so im happy people are keeping the Monsterverse alive, ive waited my whole life for it (and screw 98 Zilla)
28:19 😂 you are...
I have always loved Godzilla. I remember seeing this in theaters and his scream you felt in your chest. Soooo powerful.
My fave part of the airport scene is when Godzilla takes the first step the crowd goes silent
15:12 Wanda over here like, "Psh."
Such an epic movie. Been addicted to everything Godzilla since i was a kid with the TOHO movies. Y’all absolutely need to make sure to continue on with the rest of the Monsterverse. They tone of the movies change after Godzilla 2014, but there all so great. Awesome reaction.
this is my favorite godzilla movie, i love the mystery building up and the sound design so on point
EMP = Electromagnetic Pulse.
4:03 he's quick silver from the age of ultron. her brother 😂😂
"Is that Wanda?" - Yes.
"I feel like I recognize the guy too" - Yes... Wandas brother................
CMON GUYS!
Oh, and there are four Monsterverse movies so far: GODZILLA, KONG: SKULL ISLAND, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, and GODZILLA VS. KONG.
They’re all a blast to watch.
The Reverb on Godzilla's roar is beautiful
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) is the next film and IMO, the far superior film. You will also want to watch Skull Island for King Kong's origin, because the third Godzilla film is Godzilla Vs. Kong. And yes, 2024 is going to be a new Godzilla film. There is also an Apple+ TV show that will focus on Monarch and the events after 2014. They say we're going to get to see the battle in Hawaii instead of just the aftermath, so that's exciting!
Lmao, the husband looks familiar cuz it’s Wanda’s brother 😂
You guys definitely need to react to the original 1954 Godzilla and 2016's Shin Godzilla! The original is a metaphor for Hiroshima, and Shin Godzilla is a metaphor for the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and Japan's governmental mishandling of the incidents
(At 29:00) Godzilla: you want MY radiation so bad? Then… TAKE IT!
Honestly I barely remembered this movie but I loved kong skull Island, Godzilla 2 king of the monsters and the Godzilla vs Kong movie was amazing
Godzilla
Kong: Skull Island
Godzilla King Of The Monsters
Godzilla vs. Kong
Godzilla x Kong The New Empire
I believe sometimes he’s dormant, but he wakes when there is another monster on earth. He senses it and comes out of his dormant state. They are millennia old enemies. And therefore Godzilla must protect his habitat. At the very least on that side of the earth. That’s my understanding of the situation.
18:12 - this few seconds scene was filmed in my town! Funny enough the train /train tracks were CGI'D even though they could have literally moved their set to where our actual train tracks were lol.
The Avengers is where you saw him, the one who could move really fast, and yes the actress who played wanda was his sister in the film :)
the scene where the muto dives on a destroyer and takes the nuke, always takes my breath away
When you have kids and you have the urge to say, "Put those lizard toys away!"
Remember that airport scene. :)
Respect, Gojira!
The actress that plays Wanda maximoff in the MCU her real name is Elizabeth Olsen she's the younger sister of Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen from full house
Fun fact the one who play "Wanda" husband in this film is the same actor who've played "Pietro" the twin of Wanda in avengers
Which side you on I'm always on Big G
this is going to be a wild reaction
That first monster isn't Godzilla...the huge Dinosaur is "Godzilla".🔥🔥🔥😵😵😵😵🔥🔥🔥🔥
Next movie is
2. Kong Skull Island.
3. Godzilla King of the Monsters.
4. Godzilla Vs Kong.
I've been a silent watcher of y'all's channel for about a year now and I'm SO EXCITED that y'all are doing Godzilla! I really liked this movie and it was absolutely mind-blowing to watch in theaters, especially when he roared!
Godzilla is a great franchise in firsts...
The original is a great movie.
This movie was a great reboot.
Shin Godzilla was amazing
Godzilla minus zero looks mind-blowing!
(We don't talk about 90s zilla... tgat wasn't Godzilla)
Now you have to watch "Kong, Skull Island" and "Godzilla vs Kong" ! You are in for a crazy ride!!!
The Father played Quicksilver, Wanda's Brother in the MCU that was killed in Avengers: Age of Ultron saving Hawkeye and the little Boy, so this Movie messes Me up every time I see them kiss in this Movie! lol
King Kong versus Godzilla is iconic history, and in "Ready Player One" it was Mechagodzilla which shows up later in the franchise.
Just reacting to your reaction of the nuclear explosion at the beginning:
1. Check out footage from first russian hydrogen bomb test - RDS-37 - the one filmed over a town. No one in that town knew about the test - they stood there in the streets watching in awe - and then the shockwave came and knocked everyone down
2. You may also check footage of Castle Bravo - a test that went wrong since scientists assumed it's gonna be 5Mt, while in reality the explosion was 15Mt. So everyone observing it was standing too close. I remember that in some documentary about it one sailor said he told his friend "I think we're goners" when they felt the heat of the fireball on their faces
The scale of these things is just hard to describe and hollywood movies usually get it all wrong anyway
And this is really excellent Godzilla movie. A lot of people criticised it because they wanted just another action packed CGI feast. This movie took the subject differently and I really appreciate it. It was not giving us many "cinematic shots" but focused on making you feel like you're there and watch it from your own perspective. I really made you feel the scale of it. No other Godzilla movie did that.
thats Wanda and Pietro..
hope you continue this Monsterverse..this is actually my fave one in the monsterverse..great reaction guys..can you do the Saw Franchise? hehehe..
Fun fact: the Husband of Elzabeth Olsen's character in this movie is Aaron Taylor Johnson who played Pietro in the MCU
Probably the only film series that get better with sequels.
I saw Godzilla twice opening day. That second kill is great.
It’s time for the monsterverse, you guys are going to love Godzilla!!!
4:10 Hero acted as Quicksilver, brother of Wanda in Age of Ultron
Vince knew he knew Quicksilver...
The 2nd one is a great continuation of the storyline. Less people more monsters.
I've been going threw a lot of shit lately man but today was the most hurt for me I lost my mom today y'all vids always help me get threw when I'm feeling sad or depressed so thank y'all y'all really pull me out of a dark place love yall❤❤
Just started watching the video and hearing you say “is that Wanda?”
Did you realise the main actor is Wanda’s brother from Age of Ultron?
I think many didn't because he doesn't really look like Pietro, clothing plus hairstyle can make a really big difference.
That is not only Wanda, but her brother Pietro as well. Avengers: Age of Ultron came out just before this movie, so seeing them as husband and wife was I bit awkward haha.
Age of Ultron came out a year after this movie
@@killert_7759 - Take it how you want.
Hahaha, the moment they realize, yeah, Godzilla has a plasma breath weapon.
Perfect !!
24:51 the excitement she got when she said making out 😂😂😂
