Definitely considering this bar but I know I prefer a narrower grip so I'm going to wait and see how things shake out with the release of the different handles. Hopefully Rep will allow you to buy with other handle options as standard instead of an add-on.

Thanks for getting this out quickly and the always entertaining, informative reviews. I, like many, agree with your assessment that their biggest misstep seems to be the chosen handles for the standard width. It's unclear why they didn't leave the overall width of the bar the same, but include the narrow (i.e. normal/typical) handles as standard. You'd still get the option to go for wider grips but without turning off many people that we're having to wait for the extra handle options and spend more to get them. It's still a bar I intend to add, I just don't understand that decision. Cheers
I wish they would come up with non-rackable sleeves to replace or as an option instead of just the rackable ones on the open trap. I don’t have much room in my home gym. All I want is a hex bar with 16” sleeves that’s not 7.5 foot long 🙄 REP’s only other option is their regular Hex but that sucker has 28” wide handles for whatever reason.
I saw Rep was making an open trrap bar but decided to pass because the handle spacing, adn diameter. I liek a slightly bigger 30-32mm handle. my hands are massive so it feels right. I actualyl got the Blk Box one. Its in the UK but somehow still shipped to me in the USA for around $300. Looks almost identical to the Northern one you have, but the handles are a tad bigger and they claim it weighs a couple more poinds.
Great review, I was worried about the width of those handles because it does seem a bit wide compared to others but looking forward to what Rep does to fix it with the handles. Still waiting on mine
I think that if you Conventional deadlift with a Barbell or with the high handles on the Trap bar, your back angle will be similar. You'll bend over more because of the wider grip, so it might be basically the same exercise for most people, but the additional benefit of extra upper back work
I recently sold my Kabuki trap bar and really wish this was available when I bought mine as it seems to address my biggest complaints with the Kabuki - balance, rackable, and round tubing.
Thought about it but after comparing it with my standard trap bar, the only feature I would probably use is the built in jack. The length is negative for me with my limited gym space. My bar is only 63 inches with 13 inch sleeves and I can get plenty of weight on it. I have the Rep cambered bar so I'm sure their open trap bar is also a quality product.
Mine showed up 2 days ago. Got it put together. However, had to do a Warranty Claim. One of the nuts won't tighten down. Going to enjoy using this bar. Looking forward to any upgrades that REP releases for this bar.
I also just went with the giant v4 because of similar design and function, and was able to get it delivered for $303. Solid enough for me. Also, there customer service is awesome so far. Very responsive.

Understandable. I'm big on American made but it's hard to ignore some of the stuff others come up with. I do wish they'd bring some manufacturing here since that's where they're based.

This is a great price point and looks like a nice option for anyone looking to upgrade to an open trap bar. Curious to see the handle options they come out with down the road. Nice Review sir!
Man I see you on every workout related video lol. I hope they make the more narrow handles available soon. My wife would use this for deadlifts more than me and she definitely won't be able to use the stock handles so I had to cancel my pre-order.

If I hadn’t won a free Giant Lifting bar, I was probably still going to go with it due to being a bit cheaper and the width. 27” is just too wide for me. Adding narrow handles later just widens the price gap. Great review though!
I am pretty excited about this bar. I'm probably going to wait until we see what's going on with the switchable handles because it does seem a little wide, but I feel like I'm very likely going to end up owning one of these.
Understandable and I'd like to see how the offer those options. If you can just purchase the narrow or standard width without the price changing that'll be an awesome option.
Thanks for the review! Have you ever used any rackable camber bars? I'm curious how this feels for squats and good mornings compared to those more specific options.

Great review! I'll pick one up once they release the enhanced addition. p.s I know it's not a home gym item and it's the most expensive, but your collection demands the addition of Primes Trap Bar😎
Loved the video. How easy was this to load and use as a yoke? I'm an older guy(52) and most of the yokes out there are basically too heavy for me but at the same time I'm interested in adding yoke carries to my routine. Thank you in advance and keep up the good work. I love your videos(you have a better sense of humor than Coop.)
Loading and setting up is easy. The issue is you can't just drop it like you could a yoke so it makes the lift a lot more stressful and I don't really recommend it.
@@bootsandbraces75 I've tried using a barbell with lengths of chain instead of the spud straps. The chains are less expensive than the spud straps plus I'm around 6 foot tall which according to the reviews I've read takes me out of the sweet spot for the spud straps. My problem with using the chains(the spud straps as well) is when I make the turn at the bottom of my driveway I have to be careful not to take out my ankles or shins with the weights as they swing. I'm wondering what anyone reading this thinks about using a simple cambered bar as a yoke instead? I realize you can't set it down like a true yoke but your body(muscles) don't realize that as you are using it. It would just be a matter of setting up my portable uprights on the driveway.
Considering adding a trap bar to my equipment, the versatility of this one in particular is a bit surprising. Being a smaller person would this be a viable option? Thank you for another entertaining review.

I've got the BoS open trap bar and never thought about using it for something other than deadlifts, farmers carry, and lunges. Did you experiment with it like you did this one? If you did, did you hurt yourself doing crazy stuff? Just wanting to avoid hurting myself too. Ha!
I think I accidently walked into that bar so many times that I've started to dislike it. It's like it has it out for me, definitely not my fault... But no, as silly and sometimes crazy as I look in these videos and b rolls I'm very careful and haven't hurt myself with any of this stuff. As long as you're smart about it you'll be fine.
Well it's more of a cambered bar squat vs a squat bar. So the weight sits lower and oscillates some vs an SSB where the weight is out from now. I find cambered more fun but i mean... It's still squats
Did you get the rotating handles in yet? Looking for a review on them, I'm not too sure which handle to order with this bar...I'm 5'10" mainly looking to just deadlift with this bar, I feel like the narrow or standard would be ideal. Thoughts?
We've got all the sets of handles. I think if you're just deadlifting then you're right, standard (that's what we use) or narrow. If you think you'll lunge or try other movements then I'd stick to the standard.
@@GlucksGymthanks! That's a good call-out about lunges and the narrow handles, I never thought about that. What is the advantage of the rotating handles?
Did they tell you they were shipping early or it arrived as a surprise? Currently waiting the 12-16 weeks it seems to take them to get anything out of either warehouse.
I saw a lot of people posting on IG and Facebook about theirs well before I got mine. I think they released a few batches earlier than they thought they'd have them ready.
Is the point of it being rackable just to do camber squats? I have limited space and was considering going for one of the more compact 56" to 59" trap bars but don't want to miss out on something I didn't think of.
Bench, squat, floor press, rack pulls there's all kinds of things you can do since it's rackable. Whether you will or not is another story but the options are there.
Im one of those 3 people you mentioned. We intend to start a new RUclips channel that only discusses videos that discuss cat tongue knurling rating systems.
I've been binge watching your videos like it's a new season of stranger things. Love the content for the information and the humor! I've gotten strange looks from my wife when I literally laugh out loud watching gym review videos. I'm currently designing my home gym in a 150 square ft space. With the limited space, I'm looking at PRX's foldable rack. Any chance you might do a foldable rack review or do you have any opinions of PRX's products? Thanks for all the effort you put into in making these videos!
I had thought about a PRX when I was designing my gym but ultimately decided against it. The single biggest question I think you have to ask yourself is do you require the ability to fold away? and will you actually utilize that? And I truly mean think hard about it. If yes, then I don't think there is a better option for fold away. the rogue/titan style is more work and can be weird to setup with a slope floor of a garage. If the answer is no, the rogue/titan are cheaper and one time set and forget makes it worth the savings. I do think for about the same price you can setup a half rack that just has more overall functionality over the wall mount. Just my 2 cents.
I'm not sure what image was more disturbing - watching you floor benching with the bar following a direct path over your face (wow - lol )or you doing bench presses with a thumbless grip with a bar that has zero gnarling ( do we need to do an intervention with you ? )I bought the Eleiko Oppen deadlift bar a year ago because cutting up my shins while deadlifting twice a week was becoming a point of discussion when I wore shorts BUT the problem with it is the handles and that is the same issue with the pre-existing similar bars as you mentioned . We have different arm length and body width - that isn't an issue when using a barbell as we simple move our hands according but with a fixed grip open deadlift bar -we must conform to the bar restrictions .. The best open trap bar will be the one that has EASILY adjustable handles to be moved in and out depending on the user and also two sets of handles ,one high and low so you can flip the bar if you want to start the deadlift lower or higher . As far as all its other uses - we seem to try to re-invent the wheel it seems .. Using the bar for neutral grip exercises is fine I guess but don't we use dumbbells for that purpose ? It can do so much -but can it core an apple ??
At the end of the day, it's still a trap bar and it's way overpriced... it should be no more than 200 dollars... I bought the Cap trap bar 70 lbs for 90 dollars couple of years ago...
Is this the best open trap out there? Let us know your thoughts!

Great thumbnail!
agreed
The innuendoes 😂😂😂😂😂
Is the point of it being rackable just to do camber squats? I have limited space and was considering going for one of the more compact 56" to 59" trap bars but don't want to miss out on something I didn't think of.
Bench, squat, floor press, rack pulls there's all kinds of things you can do since it's rackable. Whether you will or not is another story but the options are there.
Only need to know one thing about this video .... Cat tongue knurling! 😹
Hahaha can never tell how people feel about it
Im one of those 3 people you mentioned. We intend to start a new RUclips channel that only discusses videos that discuss cat tongue knurling rating systems.
Did they say when the various grips would be available?
Not yet
Website shows mid January
Hey there, how that Giant trap bar review coming along? :)
Someone just asked that. It's on the shorter list which means... I'm working on it 😂
Is there a discount code
Can you neutral grip ohp with it?
Yeah. I've done that with many others (and this ones well balanced) but the cambered OHP was more fun to me on this one
What’s the 10 percent off code ??
does it matter if the taller handles are a little bent?
Bent?
@@GlucksGym yes looks like the handles are slightly pushed over to one side
, must have happened during shipping, it's a standard cheapo from china.
Standard cheapo? If I remember correctly Rep's bar is very well packaged
@@GlucksGym mines not a rep bar.
My preferences come down to budget 😂.
jesus christ the innuendos hahaha
😢 I probably went too far
@@GlucksGym keep at it, I subscribed right after I wrote that comment
It works great for zercher squats when you're not a hobbit.
Looks like my Eleiko trap bar.
When did Ferris bueller start doing gym equipment reviews.
I do enjoy you reviews
"gnarling" 🤣

IT'S A TRAP!

You forgot using it as a prie-dieu on Sundays
For the algorithm

Do yourself a favor, and watch this at 1.25x speed.
first
Yea. Stupidly wide handles.
At the end of the day, it's still a trap bar and it's way overpriced... it should be no more than 200 dollars... I bought the Cap trap bar 70 lbs for 90 dollars couple of years ago...
But you can do camber squats, zercher, bench press, shoulder press and the list goes on
Too wide, too heavy, too overbuilt. Returned.
