Was having trouble with finding the file so I Figured out why it’s not showing in FL studio 20 for Mac. First the vst3 should be installed in the vst3 folder through audio folder in Macintosh hd- then before scan in FL deselect verify plugins. It should show up

Thanks guys! Greatjob! I thank you for saving us a penny since every plugin costs a fortune nowadays. It is very easy to rack up thousands upon thousands just by buying different plugins. I am a piano player myself but this will come in really handy for certain passes (even live) that are technically hard to pull of but you just want them there. Or, save some chords and put them on the lowest/highest keys and use it to trigger a certain harmony on top of playing something else.

@@garyproctor4919 ya for Logic Pro you want to be on a recent version, you should grab the free 10.5 update if you haven't it's sick. Put the Ripchord.component file in your Mac's components folder, and then you'll be able to insert Ripchord as a "MIDI FX" on any instrument track.
if you wanted to you could put a piece of a chord on one input note and another piece of a chord on another input note and combine the pieces them by playing both input notes simultaneously.

Fam! Just saw this. Ya unfortunately people kept trying to upload paid preset packs to the community site so we just killed it. I know producers put a lot of work into those preset packs and we don't want to contribute to people jacking them.

Ya absolutely, your DAW should see it as an instrument so if you put a MIDI clip on the track that you have Ripchord on, those notes will get sent to Ripchord's MIDI input.
Hello excellent dev, How hard would it be for you to add this function?: Be able to import a MIDI sequence of chords, and automatically make a new preset from that. I can actually play piano, but would love to be able to remix, on the fly, a long complex jazz chord progression I wrote and used in a different song. I can't play piano THAT well. I think a lot of people would like that function, even if they can't play....since there are whole sites where you can download free MIDI files of many popular (and unpopular) songs. MWD, BipTunia
That is a REALLY good idea. Definitely possible. It wouldn't clutter up the interface or make Ripchord more complicated, which is the most important thing, we don't want to make Ripchord complicated, ever. It could just be an "Import MIDI File" button in the settings menu, boom, done. It's non-trivial because Ripchord doesn't currently parse MIDI files at all, but it will be on the feature roadmap for sure 🙌🏼

Exactly! Similar to Instachord, Scaler, Captain Chords, and the OG chord plugin Cthulhu, and waaaaaayyyy fewer features than all of them, but it's also way easier to use, cheaper, and community presets are 🔥🔥🔥 if you ask us.

This is beautifully empowering, and, it is beautiful of you to share it freely with everybody. BUT, it is absolutely refusing to show up in GarageBand on my Mac
Ya we've had issues getting it to appear in GarageBand, so sorry about that. The AU binary passes Mac's AU validator, and it shows up in Logic, but for some reason not GarageBand. We're in the middle of rewriting Ripchord from scratch and adding a bunch of functionality, and we will revisit the GarageBand issue in the process. ETA is late-Feb.

Are you on FL 20.5 or higher? If not that's step one. FL didn't fully support VST3 MIDI until version 20.5. If you're still stuck after that let me know.

Thanks Simba! We made a VST version but unfortunately we're not being permitted to distribute it. Steinberg owns the VST format and they are trying to force everyone over to VST3, so they aren't granting any new VST licenses, so only older plugin developers that already had existing licenses are able to release things in VST format. I wish there was something we could do about it, but we've tried and they won't budge, sorry my friend.

Hi great plugin but what I'm wondering is does this plugin auto map a midi file or incoming midi to chords? So can i load a midi file into the plugin itself or in my piano roll and have ripchord auto map chords? I hope it can but if it can't it would be a good feature.
Not sure I totally follow your question, but Ripchord can import MIDI files, and if the file contains chords, Ripchord will automatically generate a preset to let you play the chords with one finger. Just click the gear and then click "import a MIDI file".

@@dayhill9855 You're right, it would be nice to have a simple default piano sound but tbh it's not likely to come. Two reasons, 1) it sounds simple but it would actually be a ton of extra code because currently Ripchord has no audio capabilities whatsoever, it's pure MIDI, so it would need a synthesis engine etc. 2) Logic Pro doesn't use Ripchord on it's own instrument track, it uses it as a MIDI effect, so the features would have to diverge between DAWs, which is a bad look.

@@brandonyalejohnson6160 nice you're good. all you have to do is put the Ripchord.vst3 file in the VST3 folder. For Windows it's this folder "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3" and for Mac it's this folder "Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST3". In either case if you don't see the folder there you just have to create it yourself. Then open FL and rescan 👍🏼

hey Lege! you may need to create the VST3 folder if you weren't already using VST3s, it goes right alongside the VST folder helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/115000171310-VST-plug-in-locations-on-Mac-OS-X-and-macOS then after you've done that, in FL go to Options -> Manage Plugins and then click the "Find Plugins" button in the top left. After that's done you should see Ripchord in the list if you scroll all the way down.

@@ShankarBabaa it's a complicated answer, but yes GarageBand does not handle MIDI plugins the same way Logic Pro does, and we are constrained by the development framework we use, so Garage Band support may never come. You can use Logic Pro free for 90 days www.musicradar.com/news/apple-logic-pro-x-goes-free-for-90-days or if you want a completely free DAW like GarageBand that will run VST3s so you can use Ripchord, Tracktion just released a completely free version of Waveform www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free
make sure you put in a folder called "VST3". if you don't have a folder called "VST3" you have to create it. you also have to be on Ableton 10.1 or higher bc that's when they added VST3 support. and you also have to enable the VST3 folder from Ableton prefs

@@gelan86ud oh ya, i mention at the beginning of this video that you need to be on at least FL 20.5 to use Ripchord. Even if they had VST3 routing in FL 12.5, there was a bug in their VST3 implementation that we helped them identify, so no VST3 MIDI effects would work properly even if you could route them, unless you're on FL Studio 20.5 or higher. FL studio upgrades are free though, you should just update FL my dude!

@@craigdaubbeats-rapinstrume9185 It sends all of the notes in the chord to the instrument making the sound, and then yes, you can record all of those notes to the piano roll in your DAW. Each DAW works differently but you need to record the notes on the instrument track not the Ripchord track obv, because the Ripchord track would only record the single note you sent to Ripchord.
Audio-Technica AT2035 yo, it's a lot of mic for the money. Just ran it straight into the pres on a Presonus Quantum 2, and then compressed it in Ableton, can't remember which VST compressor.
I'm assuming you're on Windows since you're asking about .dll files, there isn't one btw, you just have to unzip the download and then drag the Windows VST3 into this directory -> C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 and you also need to make sure you're on Ableton 10.1 because that is the only version of Ableton that supports VST3s. I figured it out literally 2 mins ago lol but glad for the response as l am having a lot of issues with ableton since that 10.1 update and l was thinking that it had something to do with it as it keeps crashing since l updated.
@@djgarybmixesit oh nice! that sucks you've been having issues with Ableton though, 10.1 has been rock solid over here. I do remember having issues with AUs in 10.0, but i've dumped all AUs in favor of VST2s and VST3s and it never crashes now, that wouldn't help on Windows though, maybe they'll have a minor update soon.
@@trackbout does it make a difference ? It would be awesome if we could just use ripchord to customize the keyboard layout so either to remap the keyboard competely freely or to map chords :) while maintaining polyphony. Imagine the possibilities :)
a bonus would be to use the black keys to transpose the learned scale, eg C#1=>0, A#0=> -1, D#0 => +1 ...or something like that , that might be super handy we will see when playing it
ya, i couldn't think of a good reason to play more than one chord at a time so it forces the note off events when you switch chords, but you actually just provided a pretty good creative reason. and you're right, it's more powerful just to let people play as many notes/chords at once as they like, i'll make the change. the next release is scheduled for the end of this month, keep an eye out for it. also, transposition has been by far the most requested feature, that's on the way too 👍🏼

Unfortunately Reason does not support VST3 plugins yet so you won't be able to use Ripchord with it until they do.

Are you on FL 20.5 or higher? If not that's step one. FL didn't fully support VST3 MIDI until version 20.5. If you're still stuck after that let me know.

@@trackbout I followed all the steps, their is just zero audio output when playing notes through ripchord as the input or output. I am temporarily using my laptop keys until my MIDi gets here. Also my Fl Studio may not be up to date. Either way thanks for the help and dope plugin.

Thanks Simba! We made a VST version but unfortunately we're not being permitted to distribute it. Steinberg owns the VST format and they are trying to force everyone over to VST3, so they aren't granting any new VST licenses, so only older plugin developers that already had existing licenses are able to release things in VST format. I wish there was something we could do about it, but we've tried and they won't budge, sorry my friend.

Hi great plugin but what I'm wondering is does this plugin auto map a midi file or incoming midi to chords? So can i load a midi file into the plugin itself or in my piano roll and have ripchord auto map chords? I hope it can but if it can't it would be a good feature.
Not sure I totally follow your question, but Ripchord can import MIDI files, and if the file contains chords, Ripchord will automatically generate a preset to let you play the chords with one finger. Just click the gear and then click "import a MIDI file".
@@trackbout yes that's exactly what i was looking for thank you this is awesome. I think a simple non cpu heavy piano sound built in would be good too just so you can get started writting a song quickly instead of having to link the midi ports of a synth 🙂❤👍
@@dayhill9855 You're right, it would be nice to have a simple default piano sound but tbh it's not likely to come. Two reasons, 1) it sounds simple but it would actually be a ton of extra code because currently Ripchord has no audio capabilities whatsoever, it's pure MIDI, so it would need a synthesis engine etc. 2) Logic Pro doesn't use Ripchord on it's own instrument track, it uses it as a MIDI effect, so the features would have to diverge between DAWs, which is a bad look.
@@trackbout ah ok thanks for explaining, in that case i suppose its best keeping it simple as it is and concentrating on what's already there, besides i can easily add it to my template so its always pre setup for instant audio so no issue atall, the fact it analyses midi files is what i was searching for so I'm excited to test it when i have access to my laptop again in near future

@@brandonyalejohnson6160 nice you're good. all you have to do is put the Ripchord.vst3 file in the VST3 folder. For Windows it's this folder "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3" and for Mac it's this folder "Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST3". In either case if you don't see the folder there you just have to create it yourself. Then open FL and rescan 👍🏼
Hey there, I am on FL Studio V 20.5.1 for Mac and when I place the VST3 in my folder my plugin finder still does not detect the VST, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for the help!!
hey Lege! you may need to create the VST3 folder if you weren't already using VST3s, it goes right alongside the VST folder helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/115000171310-VST-plug-in-locations-on-Mac-OS-X-and-macOS then after you've done that, in FL go to Options -> Manage Plugins and then click the "Find Plugins" button in the top left. After that's done you should see Ripchord in the list if you scroll all the way down.

@@ShankarBabaa it's a complicated answer, but yes GarageBand does not handle MIDI plugins the same way Logic Pro does, and we are constrained by the development framework we use, so Garage Band support may never come. You can use Logic Pro free for 90 days www.musicradar.com/news/apple-logic-pro-x-goes-free-for-90-days or if you want a completely free DAW like GarageBand that will run VST3s so you can use Ripchord, Tracktion just released a completely free version of Waveform www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free
I downloaded the vst but cant install it ad I use Ableton
make sure you put in a folder called "VST3". if you don't have a folder called "VST3" you have to create it. you also have to be on Ableton 10.1 or higher bc that's when they added VST3 support. and you also have to enable the VST3 folder from Ableton prefs

@@gelan86ud oh ya, i mention at the beginning of this video that you need to be on at least FL 20.5 to use Ripchord. Even if they had VST3 routing in FL 12.5, there was a bug in their VST3 implementation that we helped them identify, so no VST3 MIDI effects would work properly even if you could route them, unless you're on FL Studio 20.5 or higher. FL studio upgrades are free though, you should just update FL my dude!

Yup! It will pass the velocity data through, all of the output notes will receive whatever velocity you play the input note with.

@@craigdaubbeats-rapinstrume9185 It sends all of the notes in the chord to the instrument making the sound, and then yes, you can record all of those notes to the piano roll in your DAW. Each DAW works differently but you need to record the notes on the instrument track not the Ripchord track obv, because the Ripchord track would only record the single note you sent to Ripchord.

Audio-Technica AT2035 yo, it's a lot of mic for the money. Just ran it straight into the pres on a Presonus Quantum 2, and then compressed it in Ableton, can't remember which VST compressor.

I'm assuming you're on Windows since you're asking about .dll files, there isn't one btw, you just have to unzip the download and then drag the Windows VST3 into this directory -> C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 and you also need to make sure you're on Ableton 10.1 because that is the only version of Ableton that supports VST3s. I figured it out literally 2 mins ago lol but glad for the response as l am having a lot of issues with ableton since that 10.1 update and l was thinking that it had something to do with it as it keeps crashing since l updated.
@@djgarybmixesit oh nice! that sucks you've been having issues with Ableton though, 10.1 has been rock solid over here. I do remember having issues with AUs in 10.0, but i've dumped all AUs in favor of VST2s and VST3s and it never crashes now, that wouldn't help on Windows though, maybe they'll have a minor update soon.

Just to clarify, do you want to play multiple chords at the same time? Or do you want to play one chord plus other single notes at the same time?
@@trackbout does it make a difference ? It would be awesome if we could just use ripchord to customize the keyboard layout so either to remap the keyboard competely freely or to map chords :) while maintaining polyphony. Imagine the possibilities :)

a bonus would be to use the black keys to transpose the learned scale, eg C#1=>0, A#0=> -1, D#0 => +1 ...or something like that , that might be super handy we will see when playing it
ya, i couldn't think of a good reason to play more than one chord at a time so it forces the note off events when you switch chords, but you actually just provided a pretty good creative reason. and you're right, it's more powerful just to let people play as many notes/chords at once as they like, i'll make the change. the next release is scheduled for the end of this month, keep an eye out for it. also, transposition has been by far the most requested feature, that's on the way too 👍🏼
