"Modern day anime" is a very wide margin. Some anime have bigger budgets than others or less experienced staff. Like this quality dwarfs some anime but also pales in comparison to even some older shows.

Alex Krendor this is great and all, but they don't really do that. They just write one sentence for the skin, describing the "lore," if you want to call it that. This trailer isn't even lore, or significant in any way. It's just awesome.
This cinematic and lore is pretty cool but we can't forget that literally every MOBA has skin lore ranging from cinematics to comics and short stories. Just to name a few... HoN skin lore (black legion, URSA Corps, cyber universe, etc.) LoL skin lore (project, star guardians, bloodmoon, etc.) Smite skin lore and events (various Odyssey events and skins) Dota2 (Arcana skin lore) The list goes on and on...
This is the problem with Blizzard, they can make great animation and great skins, but forget about great engine with instant reconnect, great matchmaking and great ranked system that won't place last season platinums in master.
We all know Blizz won't :p They could have done a 3D animated movie series with Overwatch, but nah, they do the movie shorts as a means to hype and advertise the game.

There are two Abathurs... you just never noticed because they are using the same skin and they weren't shown in the same frame in this one video. Otherwise this fight would be unfair 2v1.
The abathur(s) party had afk tyrael and rehgar on it. He was copying his own team's players, which happens to have used the same skins as the other team.
UdonBullets NoGhost and TheLineAnimation are a phenomenal team! They definitely set a standard with this one! Blizz need to work with them again and again and AGAIN!
It has been over a year since this came out and i simply can't stop myself from loving this trailer. This was really well made and no matter how many times i see it, i still feel the same way like the 1st time. 🙂
Blizzard is slowly transitioning into becoming an animation company. We have Overwatch and their heartfelt Pixar shorts, and now we have some Heroes of the Storm anime.
+Wandering Harlow There are really not that many opportunities for music in that game. They can’t really have some epic tracks pumping out during a match, because it would disctract people from the fact that it’s a PvP match. Unless you’re playing Lucio, or something. There’s the menu, and little jingles when loading a map, but that’s about all they can reasonably fit in. Though, PvE events give them more flexability. I wish there were more of those.

Pretty sure diablo 3 is the least played blizzard game currently, or if it isn't it should be. Nothing against the game I played and enjoyed it, but it's been ditched for years now. The necromancer being added was like tossing a bone to a starving dog.

The Atomic Cherry And Wow has some if the best fully CGI quality cinematics.
Hey! We had anime in Overwatch too with the Doomfist reveal.
However, Blizzard outsourced the doomfist anime against genji, tracer, and winston. There's a strong chance they outsourced this. (which is fine)
