I watched the replay of the Austin "PI" a couple of times and the defender clearly altered his path and engaged Austin. Definitely a bought call lol
agreed but sometimes ya just sell one right. Can't blame the guy for trying it.
I definitely see that to. Austin made his cut and you can see the defender make eye contact, slow down and jump into Austins route. Good eye, sadly the refs couldn't see that though.

So I heard someone on the fan say that if Dillion goes out of bounds instead of staying in bounds that we would have lost. So I wanted to be like well if you wanna play the “if” game then how about talk about the catch Johnson should’ve made to set us up inside the ten and the way our run game was going we probably would’ve had 6 on top of our lead so the game would’ve been over. Then how about the PI called on Austin when Pickens had that catch over the middle to win the game. Now this team isn’t the best but they know how to win and at the end of the day that’s all that matter baby
This game was far from perfect, but offers an almost complete summary of what I think needs to change with the team.
Kenny isn't perfect, but we saw the solution today. Kenny was using his legs more to escape, and was somewhat better at hitting his targets. If the line hold up and Kenny uses his legs to not just disco spin, we should be fine at QB.
Najee and Warren is proving to be a conflicted one for me. My view: I'm tired of everyone comparing them. This game showed both are great, and if we have both, I think we are better off than when we just have either one. I like our RB committee.
Washington is getting more usage, and when Patty Friermuth comes back, I'm hoping we really open up the playbook at the TE position. Where are those down the field routes to the TE like we threw to Heyward at ATL last year? I know everyone can't be Heath, but all of our TEs are perfectly capable of being good downfield threats.
The Defense is worrysome at times, but much like my views with Kenny, I'll accept occasional subpar play as long as they ball when it counts. While I am confused why we keep giving 15 yards of space to WRs in our zone coverage, I also understand how injured our D is. Hoping we'll snowball into Wintertime.
Canada is acceptable once more, and minus the occasional weird pass-behind-the-line on 3rd and long, I can't really complain too much this week. Keep it up Sideline Matt.
All in all, y'all know what week it is. Literally all I want out of this season is a Browns sweep. (Yes its bc I am a OH Pit Fan.) BREAK OUT THE BROOM.
At 19:19 you can see Boswell throw a packers offensive linemen off our sideline. I mean. He can win us games when we need, he can bomb 50+ yards in his sleep, AND THROW OFFENSIVE LINEMEN? THE COMPLETE PACKAGE!

Remember when we were 11-0 and we had to come back against a lot of teams. That should of been our Super Bowl year. That wild card game against the Browns was a nightmare to watch.

Fantastic to see the team have a hot start, but I think the second half offensive woes we had were because Kenny wasn't giving us anything in the passing game. I've defended his lack of production in the past because we were getting 60 rushing yards a game but when your rushing attack is absolutely gashing the Packers you have to take advantage of a defense that's on its heels. At least he didn't turn the ball over I guess
I disagree actually. I think it’s actually the opposite. When your run game can’t get anything going, you need to have something with your passing offense

IT twas the night before Xmas in 2022 ... Coach T couldn't sleep at all...
He got up and took a massive sh*** and went to his mini bar and contemplated having a stiff drink... he hesitated, and in a moment of pure clarity, he remembered something he hadn't thought about in many, many years... He slipped on his slippers and tip toed out to his garage, careful not to disturb the neighbors dogs... once inside, he rummaged through a few boxes and drawers until alas, he found what he was looking for... a gold zippo lighter and a little plastic cigar tube containing something extraordinary.... twas a blunt full of kush that he personally had confiscated from Steelers wide out Martavius Bryant in 2016... "Hello my old friend" he smiled... with wide eyes, and tight lips, he peered through the darkness of his back yard, looking out for anything that shouldn't be... with little confidence, and a lot of trepidation, he flicked his limited edition 24k zippo and stared at the flame for a split second before putting it to the well preserved, 6 year vintage spliff... with one toke, he began to choke, as this was unlike any grass he had smoked before... "Got damn!" He hissed, and looked at the thing in amazement, realizing why his once very talented wide out seemed to have a permanent headache and called in sick on nearly every practice Wednesday.... "Hell naw" he thought and tossed the still burning blunt into the neighbors yard. As he went inside the house his head began to spin... "Can't let Mrs T see me like this" he mused and went to hide himself in his personal film room... once inside, his mind drifted, and he became fixates on an old DVD player in the corner and a box of CDs he had nearly forgotten about. Rummaging through this box, he found a nearly pristine copy of "When we were kings" and without a second thought, he plugged in the ancient DVD player and inserted the disc... two hours later, Mike T arose from his Laz-E-Boy, and said "this is the way".... inspired by the great boxing match of the previous century, Coach T's brain began making Cannabis inspired connections between the art of boxing and the sport of football, and he decided right then and there, that he would combine the genius of Don King and Muhammad Ali and apply it to the overall strategy of the Steelers in their upcoming 2023 season... "We shall Rope-a-dope them every single week!.... then he went and made sweet love to Mrs T.

I wanna be excited about this team so badly. I wish the passing numbers didn't bother me so much but I hate it, I hate it, I freaking hate it. I miss Ben lighting defenses up. I'm not trying to be greedy; 200 rushing yards is huge, I'll take it. If that's who we're gonna be, so be it, we can win games doing that. But I just miss having a QB that could torch a defense here and there. There's nothing more fun to me personally than watching Big Ben torch the Colts in 2014 for 522 and 6TD's. Will I ever see a Steelers QB do anything even close to that again? I honestly don't know, it's not guaranteed. Great video; looking forward to this week's live shows
I hear that and don't disagree, but like I said in the video, at this point we just have to embrace that this is who they are and who they want to be. There's definitely a ceiling on this type of play, but if it's how you're gonna bring your quarterback along... you could do a lot worse. I still believe KP can be a plus starter.

hey man I hear that. Also, I don't think it was conclusive. I think it was probably backwards, but it wasn't ruled that way in real time and they whistled it dead. Even if the Packers won the challenge it just would've meant a loss of yardage for the steelers.

From the one angle it looked like it curved, either due to being a shit pass or wind or what, and I am not sure what the rule is. I believe it started out of his hand forward then curved backwards so I have no idea what the rule is.

I understand that the team isn’t asking a lot from Kenny Pickett, but at some point dude has to put it in his own hands without direction from the coaching staff. We needed a play from someone, and he touches the ball more than everyone else. Give Diontae and George a chance to beat the defense. Jordan Love wasn’t great but he was also giving his guys opportunities. Good win, but this did NOT have to be this close.
True but to your point, he made the deep throw diontae should've caught and the game sealer to Pickens that had the cheesy PI call. So, really, Pickett did do exactly what you're asking 😅
Kenny did just fine this game. His progress is right on schedule.
What progress?? He’s worse than he was as a rookie. A bottom 5 QB showing no signs of improvement is not what I would call “right on schedule”.

@@5StarMatchup Yes, he made some marginal improvement during his rookie year but where is the progress from year 1 to year 2? That’s more so what I’m referring to. 9 games into year 2, and he is not a better QB than he was in the back half of last year.
What I don't understand is on that drop to Deonte Johnson, Pickens is running the same route at the top of the screen against single-high coverage. Why are you going to Johnson and not pickens? It didn't appear that there was a heavy shade by the safety at least from the broadcast angle. Maybe the all 22 will paint a different picture but it just seems like an odd choice

Stats are for Gambling and false hope. This is Steelers Football and the only numbers that matter are when the clock shows all zeros. We are bringing back old football, where players can’t get big headed over stats, they just have to do their jobs to win. Canada SUCKS but somehow he fits the “work hard mentality”. We’re a QB away from being a really good team. Run game is starting to come together (thanks in large part to 77 being in the game) and the defense does some absolutely wizard-like things right when we need them to.
Let’s not forget that very few young qbs ever come out guns blazing in their first few years. Gotta let Kenny manage the game and mature at the same time.
Managing the game doesn’t mean being historically bad (Pickett has a lower TD% than Jamarcus Russel). And you know when a young QB has the tools to be an effective player. Pickett doesn’t.
@@ezewade04 That's the old days brother. It's not 1997 anymore. Look at the good, young QB's throughout the league. They've all shown it in their 1st year or 2nd year. Kenny has played 22 games, and not once has he passed the eyeball test. Yeah, he's made some throws in the 4th quarter to help us win, but overall he's not showing anything. He actually looks worse this year. I know Canada's offense is a joke, but Kenny just isn't poised. He doesn't stand and deliver the way franchise QB's do. It's disappointing, but it is what it is. The worst part is, the franchise never bottom's out so we might not have a shot at another top QB for a while.

Idk, I can't say he sucked. Didn't think he had much opportunity to affect the game and when he did, deep one to DJ and game sealer to GP, he made the throws and players/penalties cancelled em out. Completes those two and suddenly the stat sheet looks a bit different.

I'm getting the vibe that this year will be another playoff first round exit. Defense will have no tread left on the tires and offense has reached its peak. Buffalo or Cincinnati or kc will outscore this team when it matters but Tomlin will enjoy another winning season. I hope I'm wrong.

Sideline Canadas run game is way better. Unfortunately his passing routes still suck and not working.

The secondary sucks, and Kenny had far from his best game. But hey, they won! The run game looks great, they got crucial stops and turnovers on defense, and Kenny made some good plays despite what his stats would tell you. Pickens doesn't seem like he became a distraction either, which is exactly what I wanted to see!
And before you tell me that they'll lose out the rest of the season because Kenny is terrible, let me remind you that this was a running game for the Steelers the whole time. Pickett had 23 attempts to Love's 40, and he did have a better completion rate than Love. Love had more than twice the passing yards, probably because he got so many easy deep passes. I thought they leaned too heavily into the run in the second half, but it makes sense to play to your strengths.
If you say Kenny isn't a long-term solution, I won't argue with you because I understand why you feel that way. Believe me, he has a long way to go. But I'll also be fair to him, especially since everyone online loves to pile on him.
Coach's Box Canada is dead, long live Sideline Canada.

So a couple of thoughts:
1. I don’t think Kenny Pickett is a bad quarterback at all, I think he’s actually quite good. I think Pittsburgh is used to winning and winning now, so the time it takes for a quarterback to grow and become their full potential, Pittsburgh has very little patience for.
2. I think what very few people are realizing is that Kenny Pickett will get better, and as he does, this offense is going to start to thrive. With a thriving offense and that defense, this team is actually on the upward trajectory, a trajectory that is quite high.
I’m excited for this season and call me crazy but I think we have a shot!
Go and watch these games and someone tell me when is George Pickens ever open, he really has separation issues due to his poor route running ability. This is why the passing game suffers, until we get back Pat Friemuth, this is gonna be the story. George Pickens is not doing his job.

I think he's so good at the 50/50 stuff that he hasn't needed to worry about separating most of his career. Also, I think it's possible that he's probably not running as hard when he's not the first read. After all, like every one says, Pickett rarely gets past that lol.
@@5StarMatchup that's a lame take on why he doesn't run good routes or gets separation, that means he is the problem because you can't defend what he's not doing, which is not getting open. If he got open maybe he would get more passes his way. That's on Pickens, no excuses
